The youth of Ontario... (Aaron's vent post)
As a few of you guys know... I'm still in highschool. Anyways, I have a little story that I wanted to tell to all the TA's:
My buddy Anthony and I were invited to play some music while the new grade 9's played games outside that were organized by the student council. We both love trance, so we put on a CD that Anthony had burned, that had some good trance tracks on it. To my astonishment, groups of grade 9's walking by were shouting at us (grade 12s!) to "Turn that fucking shit off".
Now, I took a step aside in my mind. I hate rap, I hate it when people bring in their stereo's and play rap for the entire caf to hear at lunch, but I don't go up to them and tell them to turn that "shit" off. Even though I don't necessarily like it, I respect their choice of music, no matter how bad it may be.
I couldn't believe the direct lack of respect for both the MUSIC and Anthony and I for trying to play some decent music for a town dominated by wiggers and wanna-be thugs.
When the next kid walked by and said something along the lines of what I said before, I felt the urge to punch that kid right in the damn face. I hate being a violent person, and I can't afford to get suspended for two weeks over a little shit like that.
Anyways, my point of this post was to thank ALL OF THE TA'S! I feel at home with fellow trance lovers, and people that can respect eachother. After my experience today I was so incredibly angry with the youth that is 3 years behind my generation, and will someday be there influencing even more people in the cRAP music style.
That's happened many times before.
But you know what, I just turn it louder and take the bass knob on my woofer and put it higher.
You can't spell crap without rap.
next time that happens, just turn it up louder. if someone wants to fight you, just bust a cap in his ass.
grade 9s suck.
just piss on them.
ignore.....
let them tell u to turn that shit off etc. its ur choice in music...as long as u love it, thats all that matters....thats the way i go thru the day when people call the stuff i listen to BS and so on....
u know they only listen to rap cos tehy want to fit in and have no individuality...
I dont know how you can be surprised that a bunch of 14 year olds didnt like trance!~?!?!?! When i was in grade 9, i labeled ALL electronic music "gino beats" and hated all of it, with the exception of a few tracks. Youve got to realize that high school is all about image, and being "cool". Listening to 50 cent, and dressing like a thug is what over half the highschool population is doing right now, so unfortunately theyre not going to appretiate your style of music. Just wait until you graduate, and all the "thugs" get to experience the sounds of trance at a big party or club, and then and only then will they begin to appretiate the music you listen to.
And BTW......everyone in here that is calling rap "crap" and disrespecting the genre of hiphop is doing exactly what the grade 9's did to your trance. Just appretiate the music you like, and dont be offended by others negative views. They are either uneducated, or just not open minded.

| Originally posted by TECHno addict I just thought id share my experience with you. Since i was one of the kids in school that wouldve told you to "turn that shit off!!" And now (5 years later) ive developed into a full fledged TECH, TRANCE & PROG Addict. |
masses of people will not listen to trance, it's that simple. Trance is underground music and rap is mainstream. I for one like it much better this way. At least when a open-minded person DOES hear some of your trance they will appreciate it instead of people listening to trance cuz it's cool and crazystupidfresh

This thread shows just once again... It's all about the (trance) music!!! woohya!!!

As far as the music, ive always been a fan of hiphop, and always will be....im just more selective with what i listen to, and dont appretiate a lot of the commercial shit i once did. As you know, a very small percentage of the population enjoy the music that we do, and personally i prefer it. It gives us our own identity. |

Just do what I did. I pulled up to the local burger place near our school today blasting Henrik B - Avalon ( a REALLY hard techno song) (this car had a sub, so you could hear it from pretty far away), and some grade 9 punk says "hahahah stupid gino with his gay raver beats" some what quietly to his friends, but loud enough to for me to hear (I was walking by him when I said this). So I plowed through his crowd of friends, went right in front of his face, and said "sorry did the four foot tall grade 9 want to start something with the stupid gay gino ravers?"
That shut him up quick..
Yea yea I know, immature high school stories, but you can't let the little kids get the better of you, or they''ll start trying to start more and more with you later on.
What would have pissed me off is the disrespect between the grade 9s and the grade 12s in your story.
I'm sorry but in highschool the younger kids should not be saying boo to the older kids. That's the circle of life. Once they are grade 12s then they can play whatever music they want but if you are a grade 9, shut the fuck up. In the highschools in my town, this would never fly. I don't know how the politics in Toronto highschools work but its an understandable non-negotiable rule everywhere else.
