Satan (eek!) hehe, good picks ...

Nice picks. Those Giants are surely good, But I wonder if Braves can avenge their last years upset at the hands of the Giants ...

Braves defence has been a bit erratic this season, pitching has been inconsistent (although Maddux is going for 16 seasons with 15 wins tonight!) and its been their offense which has won them through this year. I think Giants are a more rounded team and should win through!

Posted by Disney on Sep-22-2003 10:20:

NL: Giants
AL: Oakland

AL might be the Yankees, but I don't want that to happen, so I'm just gonna ignore them

[edit] Giants in 6 btw [/edit]

AL - Oakland
NL - Giants

Oakland in 6

Their pitching is way too strong even without Mulder

Satan (eek!) Please be advised that ....

Hehe, just to atract more people to this thread, I am setting up a deadline for submitting your picks for the World Series. The deadline will be October 2nd. Then I would devise a points system and at the end, whoever has the most points will get the respects.... Hehe

Posted by Magnetonium on Sep-24-2003 00:41:

Satan (eek!) Hehe, I changed my mind ... but I still can!

A little change for me:

Instead of BoSox I instead will feel safer if I chose Yankess. After all, they have the biggest payroll and wont let the last season's disappointments get in their way this season ...

Shame / Disagreement to Disney and Acid Circus ...

To avoid having a tie in the points system, I strongly advise one of you to change something. Suggestion: change the number of games that you predict the number of games it will take your chosen team will win the World Series. Cheers. Thanks in advance.

If no action will be taken, then in case of a draw, I will count the selections made by an earlier post date (date of edit if edited) to be the winner.

Cubs in 5 over uhm...oakland

I can dream can't I?

Posted by AussieTrance on Sep-25-2003 12:02:

Dark horse: Cubs!

yes, lets all pray the Cubs go all the way!

Good work Magnetonium!

I'll change mine to Giants in 7 over Oakland.

Whats the prize?

I think points should be awarded if your selected teams get to the League Championship series!

Satan (eek!) Hehe, I actually have a more complex Baseball Pool

Well, I am actually going to be doing a separate MLB pool this year that doesnt cover just the World Series, but all of the playoffs. It's already been prepared, but I dont think it might be a good idea to that here... Basically you fill out your pics throughout the entire playoffs for all your predicted series before the playoffs start, and then you just collect points. Whoever wins, gets the respect, next time I do this maybe something more, like an MP3 posting of your choice on my website. LOL. So far I never done any of my designed sports pool for money, its just all fun, but I am planning to do some in the future. In the summer I designed a NHL Playoffs Pool that was a complete success. Here are the points rules for all the playoffs, as well as my selections: (if you want to do a thorough pics selections, you can follow this with your pics:
Division Series (NL):
ATL vs. HOU/CHI - ATL in 4
SF vs. FLA - SF in 4
Championship Series (NL):
ATL vs. SF - ATL in 7

Division Series (AL):
NYY vs. MIN - NYY in 5
OAK vs. BOS - BOS in 5
Championship Series (AL):
NYY vs. BOS - NYY in 6

World Series:
ATL vs. NYY - ATL in 7.

Points System for this Pool:
Division Series
(1) Each game won by Chosen Team = 2 points
(2) Chosen Team wins the series = 1 point
(2) Underdog Team wins the series = 1 bonus point (accumulative with above)
(2) Exact number of games the series won by the Chosen Team = 1 point

League Championship Series
(3) Each game won by Chosen Team = 4 points
(4) Precise series match-up prediction = 3 points
(4) Runner-up Points (per win) = 2 points
(5) Chosen Team wins the series = 1 point
(5) Exact number of games the series won by Chosen Team = 1 point

World Series
(6) Each game won by Chosen Team = 8 points
(7) Precise series match-up prediction: = 5 points
(7) Runner-up Points (per win) = 4 points
(8) Chosen Team wins the series = 2 points
(8) Exact number of games the series won by Chosen Team = 1 point

LEGEND:
Chosen Team a club chosen by you to win the specified series.
Runner-up Points collected from each win registered by the team that was predicted by you to reach the specified series, but not chosen to advance from that round of playoffs.
Underdog Team the lower ranked team of the two teams in any given match-up, based on the regular season standings.

Talking Done, done and done ...

Alrighties ... fixed all the suggestions and stuff. The deadline for world series pics suggestions has now passed, so anyone thinking about changing their selections or other people who missed out and want to submit their selections - beware: from now on there will be some big deductions if your selections will be good ones. Good luck and stay tuned with the 2003 MLB Playoffs. It's gonna be a wild one this year as I aready witnessed the shocking Game 1 Yankee loss to Twins

Posted by AussieTrance on Oct-01-2003 12:03:

Yeah, I did actually tip the Braves, but....

Go CUBS!!!!!! 1-0 - Kerry Wood owned everyone on that field, with the ball, and the bat.

Great result, really does set up game 3 now with a possible Maddux vs Prior pitcher duel, awesome!

Posted by Acid Circus on Oct-01-2003 14:11:

You have to feel sorry for Beckett, being charged with a loss giving up only 2 hits in 7 innings. But thats the quality of teams in there now.

Twins winning was a bit of a shocker, looking forward to the A's Redsox game tonight!

Sad what an awful night ..... ugh

Ugh ..... what happened to the Yankees .... they couldn't cash in runners from scoring positions until the ninth inninng, and even there ex-Blue Jays player (Stuart?) to rob Godzilla of extra bases hit. Yikes! And for the choking Braves ....... ugh ugh ugh ...... I was really impressed with Ortiz getting out of jams and striking out Sosa, but his teammates didnt help him at all. Fick should've turned a double play in the 7th that cost Braves the game. ugh ....... will Braves' awful playoff years ever gonna end in a success? I remember in 96 when Braves had a 2-0 World Series lead on the Yankees winning the first two games in the Bronx, and they would not win another playoff game in that series ..... including in game 3 or 4 when they had a 4 run lead in the 6th inning, and let it slip ...... ugh

The thing that worries me the most about the division series, is that the team who wins the first game, especially on the road, has a 24-12 record in Division Series victories after....

I thought there were plans to make the divisions series best of seven too (not this year, but in the future).

Anyone know more about that?

Posted by Magnetonium on Oct-02-2003 19:14:

Shame / Disagreement the complications of that ....

Yes, there were suggestions of that nature, and I support that motion, but however, that will require chopping off 2 games from the regular season, and not everyone would be satisfied with that. That would be sacrilege ... I do know that the owners are talking about maybe adding another wild card team to the playoffs next year for both leagues

Go Braves!

Another wild card??? Than you would have 5 teams per leaugue :s

How are they gonna set the brackets then? A premilanary series between the 2 wild card teams first?
