Smiley DJ DJ Tiësto.....The Trance master?

Tijs Verwest...The best DJ out there?
Music is magic, it's also a form of art and style. So there biased point of veiws. Some people hate and some like, but why is it that when I listen to DJ Tiësto and his livesets its so different. I am sharing my opinion, but I have heard many DJ's out there with unquestionable talent and skill, with the right beat and groove the mood is set. However there are times where these DJ's seem to ruin their style or "mood". Out of 7 different livesets, and 190 56k downloaded DJ Tiësto mp3's I haven't yet found a single track or selection I found disturbing or ruining the style or mood. Nor have I come across a Trance fan who disliked DJ Tiësto in particular. What do you guys think? Anyone disagree?

Smiley DJ A change in style and taste

I have read around the other threads and heard other rumors...I have not noticed what people have been talking about...I have not yet heard Magik7 yet. Since being a good DJ is partially about crowd control, I have heard he changed his style a bit in Magik 7 to a more harder, progressive solid beat. Because it was played in LA, and not his usual crowd at innercity or club eau. Would somebody tell me what they think about this?

Posted by patticus on Jul-04-2001 11:32:

to clarify, magik 7 is anything but progressive in the slightest

about as progressive as judge jules

i think Tiesto is going into a Progressive rout.....but u have to understand there are many forms of progressive....... there is New and True progressive which Sasha and Digweed lay down....which is more of Progressive House...... Progressive trance in my mind is more of the Shiller - Glockenspiel (Humate mix) stuff in that nature...but its all progressive in nature...just Progressive is the new style which a genre is leaning to thats what i would describe progressive..and Tiesto is going in a Progressive Rout mayb not as extreme as Digweed or who ever is out there but compared to his sets from 99 and 2000 ...hes much more progressive

Yep I disagree! I'm pretty sure "jploveparade" doesn't like Tiesto that much. I'm sure i've seen him bag Tiesto plenty of times, well I'm quite sure actually. If you like Trance, how could you NOT like Tiesto?

Posted by Kurve on Jul-04-2001 12:37:

Yup i couldnt see why anyone who liked trance wouldnt like tiesto.!!! if Trance had its own money ...shit tiesto would have his face one some bill...

Tiesto's tracks and remixes have always been up there in the list of all-time greatest tracks... plus his sets aren't all that bad... his more recent sets may not have been all that great, but his style is changing...

Thumbs up Trance currency

I'm up for that ^ anyone can convince a country to use that kind of currency i.e. (somewhere that doesn't care like Amsterdam) then i'd be on a plane on my way. Good DJs deserve to be seen a little bit more of

I like Tiesto so much because he is an awesome producer and an awesome DJ...hard thing to do. He has such a talent at both...his music always touches me. It would definitely be hard to find a trance fan who doesn't like Tiesto.

Dancing Dude Heil Tiesto!!

DJ Tiesto is the greatest DJ ever to grace the turntable. Enough said.

I like Tiesto a lot but he needs a new box of records. I really dont want to hear Silence anymore.

Posted by mute79 on Jul-04-2001 19:44:

silence? he hasn't played that record in months!

2 me Tiesto is da best Epic/Uplifting trance dj out there right now but ya he need's 2 change some vinlys he has

I don't like tiesto as a dj, but I enjoy his productions...I don't particularly care for ferry corsten that much either. I respect them both for what they've done, they just take it a little overboard sometimes, using the same basic kinds of tracks, and the same type of mood, I just wish they would get a little creative with their style, neither of them stray far from the same 'ol beatmatching and fading mix style.

Well.. i usually love tiesto.. he makes gr8 music, and he has sets beyond perfect.... but when i heard Magik 7.. i was hella disapointed... he had a lack choice of trax... and i really really didn't like it... but then i heard the club eau second year anniversary... OMG!!.. defenatlly one of his best sets this year!

C'mon... dont be stupid.. he hasn't played this tune in ages now!!...

Posted by Cosmo K on Jul-05-2001 21:13:

Well, with 'Flight 643', I would say he's becoming more progressive...
I for one think that Flight 643 is a downtrip in comparison with his earlier releases, BUT it is refreshing to hear something other than remixes of other songs, which start to sound the same (same samples used, etc etc).
Thought I'd be tired of the old Gouryella sound, but no, I'm starting to miss it now, since there's becoming a wider gap between great and garbage trance... (Damn, I miss '99!)

Well, I'll just have to see (or hear) it for myself...I'll be hosting him in a few weeks... before he (and myself, eventually) take the annual trip to Ibiza.

Smiley DJ

I admire Tiësto's style and how he was not influenced by other DJ's style since he began spinning at clubs since 14, he has his own style nobody else has, just the same with PVD. By the way...Who do you guys think are the top 2 competing trance DJ's in the world right now? There are simply too many DJ's out there I have yet to hear, as of now I am going with Tiësto and Paul van Dyk...

Posted by day_for_night on Jul-06-2001 00:02:

good lord! tiesto is a decent producer, THAT'S IT! other than that, the man is mediocre behind the decks, with a lacklustre style and so-so mixing skills. go listen to pappa, howells, s&d, warren, deep dish, seaman, ect... and *then* tell me tiesto even comes close to the talent than any of the above have. the man is way over rated, plain and simple.

ohhh, and i'm sorry, but magik 1 thru 6 were and are pure cheese. in search of sunrise two was his only album even worth listening to (still boring as hell, i have freinds who can make better mixed tapes).

ohhh, and ferry corsten sucks too (cause i haven't pissed off enough people on the board already )
