Feelin' home sick
Hey All TOTAs,I moved down to Alexandria, VA for a one year internship about a month ago, and I'm feeling quite homesick....
nothing beats Canada I must say, I know the US is not too far away but its just a totally different place, there is a feeling of insecurity, and not because of "terrorists" but just the way the country is....
For example, my first time into a bank, I witnessed a robbery where the guy snatched $700 from over the counter and took off in a Benz....my question is why do u steal $700 if you drive a Benz? or maybe its stolen too!!!
Another is seeing 6 cop cars parked on the side of the street arresting someone for God knows what, and oh yeah, cops cops everywhere!
My first night here I met (he found me!) a guy who just spent 10 years in jail, and he was asking for directions and wondering why people wont help him....here is a tip, dont tell them you just got out of jail!!!
The news here is ridiculous where all channels spend 5 minutes talking about J.Lo and Ben Afleck breaking up and yet hardly no mention of whats going on the world...
I know I'm rambling, so I'll stop.....I'm glad im not here permanently, and I don't I'd ever wanna be!!!!
and another thing I miss, the de-crim of marijuana
Abbas
Try and make the best of your time there! (I know, it seems easier said than done.) Get all you can out of this experience, and before you know it, you'll be right back in good old Ontario.
dont worry..u hav eonly 10 months left
nah, i would go to the states instead of canada. i know how bad usa is, but theres lots of places to go to. here its only toronto, or vancouver, thats about it. and also theres too many immigrants taking over this country, i hardly see natural canadians. but neways i still prefer usa.

to "adjust to Canada" means what exactly? See it's interesting becuase i'm taking a class on this very exactly idea. Becuase we believe in having such a diverse and multicultural state, do you think it hinders the promotion of national unity in Canada?

But it's the ones who feel they don't have to adjust to Canada and decide to live in their own little world that bug me... Anyways man, I feel your pain cause I don't think I could do it either. And I thought they were paranoid before 9-11...(see "Bowling for Combine" and you'll see exactly what I mean) Hang in there!! |

| Originally posted by dj_moonshine well i didnt mean to be racist but some of them shouldnt be here, like u said, the ones who decide to live on their own and isolate themselves from others. also the ones who create gang groups just bcuz thier from a special country, and the ones who just try to represent too much about their culture without knowing anything about their own culture. i hope this makes sense. im not really good at english. im like tieso, hehe. |

damn, americans are stupid
sorry for who ever is american and is reading this...
The "hinderers" as you call them are the people who have been born here, who sponge welfare off the government because they're too fucking lazy to get off their ass....and this is from my own observation...I recall hearing a " natural Canadian" say, I make more money than my friend who works by living off welfare
I'm an immigrant to Canada, and I know many of them, none of us are "hinderers" to the country or to the economy because we come here to make somethign out of ourselves from the misery and the shitty places we were living in....
nobody is perfect as someone said, everyone has their bad apples...
and as for the US being a better place for having less immigrants, well then come here and live and find out for yourself.....Americans are selfish an only care about themselves and their country, nobody else.....and im not basing this on Bush or the government but off people I have met here already.....its a pure capitalist country where the poor eat shit and the wealthy get wealthier....great country!

| Originally posted by dEsidEL what's a natural Canadian .. ? btw. the birth rate is dropping in Canada which means that without immigrants the overall population of this country would be on the decline. We need immigration in order to help support the aging population in this country. But i guess you might see it a little differently .. |
moonshine, you want away from 'Immigrants'?
move to the prairies.
Im starting to get homesick. only 12 weeks till I go home tho.(for 2 weeks)
The people Im meeting are nice
the rest of the city sucks. I have only met 2 nice people in any service industry since I came here. One was a taxi driver, the other works the front desk at a hotel.
That taxi guy got a fat tip.
but to Disko-Kandi, we lost our #1 spot this year, I think we slipped to 4, behind all the scandanavian countrie(I think..not certain)
anyways, I love Canada. eh!

I for one would not hesitate to move to the west coast if I could get a better job there. I'd miss the Toronto scene and TOTA, but I think that's just about all I'd miss! J's right, this city isn't such a friendly one... and it's so hard to find work... immigration is good for our country in theory, but the poor way it's handled by the Canadian government gives it a negative impact in practice (IMHO of course).

| Originally posted by dEsidEL that's part of the problem .. the areas of Canada that need immigrants the most aren't getting enough. They're all choosing to move into the already crammed urban centers ie. TO, MTL, and VC and it's creating a saturation of skilled workers in places where there aren't enough jobs for everyone. it's why some of you might find it so hard to find work these days because of the over abundance of qualified professionals we hav in this city. Seriously there are so many opportunities out West and in the Maritimes where they desperately need an influx in population .. but the problem is that people here seem to be too content, and stationary with their surroundings to want to move.. i think it's a comfort level thing.. but eventually something will hav to give .. |
Abbas- you're in my hometown now (except I'm really from Montgomery County, MD). Maybe I'll catch u at Glow on Oct 25th for Johan Gielen?
