Posted by Anomyst on Oct-05-2003 01:23:

I dont know what you guys have been smoking today but the theme was not played by anyone in the main Stage!!!

STEVE STRANGIS: U FUNKING ROCKED IT SOLID!! Silence.........nuff said
Yeah man, although it was early you really proved you are a mangler of fine arts (trance) Some of the finest work i have seen you do!!!
The main Arena was stepping to your beat, as was I. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! You deserve it!! cant wait till next time!!

Marco V Was simply amazing when he dropped Adam Freeland-Smells like teen spirit (Nirvana) Did not have a clue that this would be played.
But fuck he had the whole place going off Tap. one dissapointment was the lack of Godd/esperanza

I was pining for this track!!!! oh well next time!!

Also. (Brain Capacity running really low, so i will be quick)
Although i did'nt see most of the sets around the grounds. My vote would go to Cosmic Gate (WHO JUST FUCKING WENT OFF!!!!!) playing a sunrise set (Finally a break from Midro!!) Will post tracklistings laterer.

Anyway with all that said this was just a 5min insight to a Magnificent Night felt by pretty much all punters and for once the muzz were generally well behaved!!!

AGAIN WELL DONE STEVE U ROCK!!!

>>Benji a.k.a Wet-Ankles<<

P.S. I think almost every photo taken of me throughout the night was a true blue GURNER SHOT. not on purpose, all 100% pure gurn. I now take it tou you guys to prove me wrong!! ITM monday methinks.

Oh and if i am wrong in anyway of this quick report i am sorry as i am STILL gurning really hard!!

Till Next time >>>> RAMBLE

The fact that James Holden & Steve Gerrard actually made it to Melbourne suprises me!! They ended up back at crispin's after sweetchilli and that would have been one VERY messy afterparty!!!

Sweetchilli absolutley rocked so if you guys missed James and Steve, you really missed out!!

Steve was the 2nd(or 3rd) most messy person @ GAS I'd say, with Grant and Spang being the other 2. That guy, my god, such a champ, really relaxed and down to earth, joked w/ him like he was an old mate. (and scored his demo cds :P)

Holden, the guy's a freak, still yet to figure out how to sum the man and the music up.

Dunno

no body seems to have surfaced with a tracklist yet

must have been a big one

Posted by djsimulator on Oct-05-2003 06:50:

Thumbs up

BKs set was awesome

I'm not a hardcore track lister (ok, i hardly ever know the names!), but when i hear a song mixed in, i know exacly how its gonna go!

Anyway back to the BK set - it was just what you wanted - hard, fast and pumping. VinylGroover was awesome too, and without a doubt the Nukluez room was the best.

I wish cosmic gate had of been on earlier, because at about 5.30 i was starting to get tired (weak, i know!) so i didnt enjoy it to its fullest...

See you all at TOGETHER @ NYE!

Add
DJ Tiesto - Traffic
The Gift - The Seventh Day
OMMMMFFFGGGG to that list.

I couldn't ID a lot of M.I.K.E.'s tracks, but he had a great groove going on, that dirty dark techy uplifting sound of his -- just wicked. Seventh Day almost broke my brain .

Bailed on Marco V completely, and went and checked out James Holden. He proceeded to rip out the best prog set I've ever seen in my life. It had funk, groove, house, electro, female vocals, male vocals and genuine trance in there. He had me spellbound from go to whoa... just unbelievable. His set was undoubtedly the highlight of my night .

(I'm terrible at prog-spotting... only tracks I picked were JFOS feat Claire - Do What You Want [Infusion Mix] and James Holden - Nothing [Original Mix] )

From there the posse headed on down to see Cosmic Gate, and walked in on (I think) Basic Dawn - Pure Thrust. They had the place going off, but it wasn't really my style... not enough happening in the bassline for my liking Good fun though.

And of course, there was Mr Strangis earlier on in the night. Very nice work for his big-room debut, and while the crowd was sparse early on, it built nicely for the end of his set. Top stuff, Steve!

All in all, a ripper night of trance from go to whoa. Two thumbs up

did anyone else notice how the volumne was turned down for a period of time when mike was playin? that really put a dampener on the party at that time.... remember hearing turn the lights off on mute ... heard from someone else that the EPA came and complained about the noise. Good to see when i came back later that the volumne was back up though.

the night was a mix for me. really enjoyed saunderson and holden and of course our very own steve. marco v performed as expected but was not spectacular in my opinion. cosmic gate didn't really do it for me ... found their set to be repetitive cheese.

Posted by waXology on Oct-05-2003 09:53:

anyone got a listing of what marco v played?

Posted by Chuck Norris on Oct-05-2003 10:20:

Yeah, Holden was bloody gold. Exactly the right mix of melody and toughness. Don't remember hearing Nothing (but I missed the first and last 15 minutes) but the other tracks I can remember spotting were Outhouse, You Are Sleeping (Chable Mix), Break in the Clouds and Kaern Turned plus a few from his Balance compilation. There were a few other familiar ones (am I tripping or did he play Murk - Alright? ) that'll probably come back to me though.

As for everyone else, I enjoyed MIKE. His mixing was a bit dodgy (particularly at the start) and the sound at the back of the dancefloor was fucked like someone said, but still some pretty nice tunes. Tracklisting please?

Saw about 20 minutes of BK, which was enough tbh. Way too hard, and I kinda got the impression that I was the only one in the room not drugged up to the eyeballs...... but maybe that's where I was going wrong.

Saw a bit of Kevin Saunderson (spent a bit of time going back and forth between him and Holden) and he sounded pretty damn good. Played the Mike Monday mix of C&S - Who Is It? while I was in there, so he obviously plays with a pretty funky edge. If Holden wasn't playing at the same time I would've liked to have seen more of him. :-/

Saw the first 15 minutes of Cosmic Gate (as well as the Firewire encore that felt like it lasted for about 37 minutes) but not my style really. Ended up grooving to Kasey with a small but committed bunch of prog-heads for the last hour and a half instead. Definately Australia's number one DJ who still managed to rock it even though the room was half empty by this stage.

A bit pissed off that we missed Steve Strangis (we didn't get there till like 12 :-/) but can't do much about it now I guess. Good night all in all though.

ahhh shit... i just alt-f4ed a fucking long report

fuckit i'll do it later

Posted by narcism on Oct-05-2003 11:46:

ok this review is going to be seriously mashed up
i've had a total of 3 hours sleep and the memory isnt the best at the moment.

Got there and steve was playing, room was quite empty, but soon filled up.. Once again a really really good set, the mixing was spot on no major trainwrecks, hahaha marco had a massive one was really funny, well i thought so anyways
Digital Delinquents - 2 Do Anything (Carte Blanche 2003) sent the gurners off literally... then he finished with the one and only silence, mark and i have plotted to confiscate it
But in all due respects it blew the roof off the joint

as soon as the kandi dj's started to play that was the end of my main room experience until later on...

MIKE- omg mike.... his quite a character behind the decks, very animated indeed
tracks were hard to id maybe more will come back to me later on
i'll add id- sunglasses at night to the already half extablished list
hahah but the guys down the front of his set were so funny, good to see that there were some educated people in the crowd

then out came Marco V
opened with red pill, blue pill... everyone went crazy
also vdm- no hesitation a forgotten classic there
c:\*del
his clocks bootleg i almost died when i heard it being brought in... i was going ape shit and then once the piano bit of coldplay kicked in
erm there were shit loads more... hahaha
push- transformation

after the set i got my t-shirt signed, shock his hand and thanked him for a fantastic set he kinda looks like moby, but id still have his babies

cosmic gate was a bit meh, not really my type, i ended up walking round looking for a few friends, found them in the end. Didnt get home til round 10am ended up going out for breakfest and then went to bed only to be woken up 3 hours later.... but im still buzzing from marco and mike .... So IT'S ALL GOOD!
