i don't need a pimped out pc, just something that runs ok and plays movies and isn't expensive.

Integrated audio is yecch, I'd go for a motherboard from Asus or MSI that doesn't have any integrated crap and just get a $20 LAN card.

Sound card is old, I'm sure it doesn't cost that much more to get an Audigy at this point.

Avoid power supplies integrated into the case... they do suck. I'd recommend Enermax, they can be pricey but it's well worth it.

You also haven't mentioned anything about hard drives... planning on running your computer without one? If you want to use your existing one, keep in mind that it may slow your system down considerably if it's old.

i have a network card and 2 relatively new hard drives, so i'm not looking for those. the problem is that the fan on my current motherboard is going to blow out soon and i can't get a replacement, plus i'm tired of the integrated videocard shit... i'd get a new mobo / cpu + video card, but i don't know about compatibility and whether my current case / power supply will work with it. i hate ibm and retail pcs.

Well, proprietary cases like Dell and IBM often don't work with standard parts, but you have to check on it, there's a possibility.

Anyway, if you already have a LAN card and you're getting a new sound card, then you definitely don't want to get that Gigabyte board. Get something that doesn't have any integrated parts.

You also say that you want something that plays movies... well, if you're planning to play DVDs, you definitely need either a GOOD video card or a special decoder card. Even for regular movies, you'd probably want something decent, not $400, but definitely no less than what you listed. I'd still recommend an Audigy and a different power supply, because the problem with integrated power supplies is that they're unreliable and they blow out, which can damage your motherboard and everything else in the process.

Lol, thats almost exactly like my setup, tho I just recently bumped RAM up to 1.5G, tho its generic and no where near as nice as corsair

I got same mobo and cpu, they are great value for money, but i went for a Sonic Xplosion soundcard, GREAT value for money there

As for cooling, that which you picked will be fine, you not looking to overclock i take it? If so you aint got the best kit for that, hence me upgrading next month, but what you've got is a solid system matey

asus a7n8x deluxe is good too

BTW, Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rev2 is the best nFroce2 motherboard on the market right now.

Get a Soundblaster Audigy 2...you will be pleased.

BTW, Asus A7N8X Deluxe comes with Soundstorm audio, which is one of the best soundscrads out there, and it beats Audigy 2 by miles.

I built my PC by buying EVERYTHING I need from them, their shipping and customer service is untouchable.
For expample, your about to buy an Asus A7N8X DX for 140, when you can buy it from newegg.com for $120 (thats how much I bought mine for).

Yeah, you really CAN NOT beat New Egg's prices for how fast they process the order & get it to you.

Sure you might find it cheaper somewhere else (but rarely) and that company usually does not have a good track record. All of my internal computer parts came from New Egg and the case plus visual parts from Xoxide.com

Monitor, Speakers, keyboard and mouse all from New Egg as well.

Rarely if ever anyone can beat neweggs prices, but their shipping, product quality and customer service is untouchable.
I ordered an XP2500 from them on Friday, its gonna be here Monday

About the case, it looks allright.
About CPU istallation, you need to be very careful, one wrong move or placement and the part can be useless.

Yes, you seem to think you're very smart on this issue.

Whatever man, there's absolutely no reason to resort to personal insults when you disagree with someone's opinion (which I stand by - Antec makes decent power supplies but the ones included with their cases are nowhere near as reliable as the ones that Enermax sells standalone). As for soundcards, you're entitled to your opinion, but I'd like to see your "research" that proves it.

Anyway whiskers, the new setup's looking alright I guess, I still dislike integrated motherboards but I'm not going to start a whole shit storm over it. Just be careful about installing the heatsink, if it's not secured then the processor will melt, but if you push too hard you'll crush the processor die.

I agree mostly.. Newegg is KILLER for most stuff. There are few things that you can find a better deal on, but up to now, i have had NOTHING bad to say about newegg. Fast shipping, great prices, cheap shipping cost.. etc. INCREDIBLE place to shop from.

as on your parts:

Get an NForce Mobo with integrated audio and LAN. unlike what some people think, it is DEFINETELY good. Bought my Abit Nforce mobo back in February and although it is the SHITTIER older version I got my FSB to 200MHz (400 DDR) and that gave me a nice overclock on my CPU. The sound is fine unless you want to do something super-special, but in that case you should know more about soundcards than me. The integrated video isn't the best of them all, so maybe you'd want to shell out some of the $$ you save on the LAN and Soundcard for a nice RADEON. 128MB are still overkill, but i don't think you can get anything smaller than that at this point.

anyway, get yourself a NICE power-supply. Enermax' are definetely sweet and you will be able to keep them through many cases. While some people might suggest a PSU is a PSU is a PSU that isn't really the case. Some 300W PSU don't even supply 250W and their rails will drop below certain tresholds and your pc will crash. Trust me, and many other people who KNOW THEIR STUFF on this one, if you get a shitty power supply and you really want to tweak your system, you will NOT be happy. I have made the mistake in the past and learned from it....
