TOTA Top 100 DJ List

that's right! we here in the TOTA forum should make our own list, just to see how things measure up against the "name a DJ" list over at DJ MAG

i'll be taking care of the results since i'm lazy and dont feel like working nights anymore.

this is how it goes, since there is less of us, we can pick 7 DJ's

pick your DJ's based on their performance as a DJ, not how many concerts they did, or how many commercial compilation albums they put out

you have to have had seen them live or at least heard recent (past year) livesets from them.

and also, no matter what the results, tiesto will nto be #1, i'm running this show

jk

but we're all too smart to vote for him anyways

i'll start with my picks

in no particular order

Armin Van Buuren
Mauro Picotto
Chris Liebing
Adam Beyer
SCUMFROG
PVD
Ferry Corsten

BEN SIMS - for mixing tribal techno like the genious that he is.
Barbara - for being fast, funky and furious. And for being personal with her fans.
SVEN VATH - my husband, of course he's on the list!
Deko-Ze - for being one of the fewDJs that has risen to popularity despite consistently mixing multiple genres into a set. (I like this, most don't.)
Hawtin - I don't care what people say. He's diverse, and talented.
John Acquaviva - tech housey goodness that never disappoints.
Adam Beyer - he's flawless, and hot, what more can I say?
Dave clarke - for spinning disco. And techno. And electro.
Christian Smith - for his "good days."
....and I'm not sure about the last spot.

I dont know why everyone is so upset over this.
So what if Tiesto is number one again, and why does everyone think he doesnt deserve it? If he didnt, he wouldnt of got most of the votes.

What im saying is, music is so subjective, you cant really say that one person is better than another, its all about personal preference. People are voting for their favourite djs and thats it. There was no set of guidlines or rules in terms of voting, and the people gave their opinion. Done. It doesnt by any means mean he is the best, although he is my favourite.

As for a TOTA poll, i think it would be kinda cool to se who everyone likes. But itll still be a vote based on peoples individual preference.

u pretty much summed it all up right there...its a vote based on peoples opinions, doesnt matter if they're right or wrong or whatever.

Posted by Rocco on Nov-01-2003 00:36:

i vote for all of them.
They all kick ass for supporting the scene. I think our local DJs need some recognizion.

Mark O, Deko-ze, Max Graham and the rest of the canadian DJs work really really hard to sustain the scene in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Many real good tallents in the city that love what they do. They are the ones that put canada on the trance/electronica map

you're totally missing the point, as many are doing.

Tiesto got the most votes for a reason...the reason being that more people love him (for mulitiple reasons) more than any other Dj. You have to realise that when people think of a Dj, they don't think of just mixing or selection.....they take productions, remixes, CD release, live sets ALL into account. This completely right, because there is more to Superstar Dj'ing these days than simply putting on a few records and mixing them for a night. Dj's have become ARTISTS. So, while Tiesto may not be the best technical Dj, he more than makes up for that with track selection, productions, releases, live gigs (TIC for example)...all of this combines to influence people in making their decision.

Remember...this is the DJ poll....not the best MIXER poll. The people have spoken....and the majority of them pick Tiesto as NUMERO UNO for one reason, or a combination of reasons, that I have mentioned.

The only DJ I voted for that I haven't seen this year was Armin...missed him in April because of exams and then again last month because it would have been too expensive to see both him and PvD....so I chose the latter and was rewarded. But I did see him at 2002 LoL and listened to his ASOT sessions often. I voted for Marco V in 5th because he rocks.....and I am in love with his track, Solarized.

Posted by DigDeep on Nov-01-2003 07:45:

James Zabiela
Danny Howells
Steve Lawler
PVD
Scumfrog
Hernan Cattaneo
Sasha

(Top 7 Dj's i've seen this year in no peticular order)

you using a tally?

honeslty dont think that system is going to work. you should do, for example, 7 points for first pick, and then reduce a point for the following spots.

or so.

just a suggestion.

just a thought.
