Tiesto @ Glow Review

Well, I went with Yujie and got there around 12:15ish. We get in, and it seems crowded, but theres a little bit of space to dance. Searched for TAs and found only Reuben(who actually found us). Think we saw KidNyce too, but could never maneuver through the crowd(always got pushed).

Well, Tiesto came on close to on time about 1:10ish. This is when it got REALLY crowded. It was only like this for about an hour though. The first 40 minutes were complete cheeze, and i was just standing there while everyone was jumpin around next to me. Then, the moment he played carrera 2, i was in. hadn't heard that track in FOREVER. It was funny though because people went crazy for beautiful things(played like 2 or 3 tracks before) and didn't even make one bit of shoutiness(word? hehe) when carrera 2 came on. So i started shouting to make up for it.

Then, from then on the set was alright. But didn't seem to flow. Heres the tracks I can remember(not a lot, played a buncha stuff i'd never heard). Post more if you have better memory/ID skills:

Andain - Beautiful Things
Three Drives - Carrera 2
Firewall - Sincere
Tiesto - Traffic
Dave Gahan - Dirty Stick Floor
Rank 1 - Breathing(Breaks Dub)

Overall, set was OK, vibe was not incredible, mostly because insomnia was full of 50%+ people who had never even seen Tiesto's face or could name 1 track by him.

I told Yujie when I first got there that this would make it or break it for Tiesto for me. He spun adecent enough set to make me want to see him again, but by no means did he deserve #1 DJ.

Well, post what ya want. Goin to do some work =P.

~Ryan

There were definitely a TON of people who I'd never seen at Glow before. Way too crowded for the first hour, and you're right about it being total cheese for the first 40 minutes. It did start to pick up after Carrerra 2, but I couldn't ID most of the tracks no matter how hard I tried. This is the only other one I can remember off the top of my head:

Dave Gahan "Dirty Sticky Floors" (Junkie XL)

Posted by Mebot on Nov-02-2003 20:33:

Sounds like an alright night, except for the crowding.

Maybe it was good that I wasnt able to see him. As much as I really wanted to, I dont think it was as banging as I wouldve hoped for.

Although its cool that he played a lot of new tracks, not like last time when he dropped tracks 5 or 6 months old. Anyhoo, I'd still like to see Tiesto again sometime, because like you said Ryan, his set will either make him or break him in my book.

That being said, I cannot wait to see the #3 DJ tear it up on Nov 15

I got a call from Ryan(Rounder19) around 1:50 AM-ish from GLOW and I believe through all of the insane static over the cell phone i heard NAKED ANGEL! If he played that how could you leave that out??? I wouldn't consider that cheese lol heheh Oh well . Looking forward to hearing all the other Reviews of the show! GOD i wish I could have made it!!! At least I got a few phone calls throughout the night so I could hear which was awesome heh

Most likely played that track. I don't know so I couldn't tell ya. Even though it was way too crowded and the first hour was cheezy, the people were still going nuts. After an hour the "non-regulars" went home and there was more room to dance.

I hope it's not this bad when Armin comes to town.

I really enjoyed the begining of his set. As soon as Tiesto came out.....everybody started chanting 'NUMBER 1'......

May @ Roxy VS November @ Glow

I've only seen Tiesto twice, the first time being at Roxy in May. THe set last night at Glow was MUCH better imo. I did as much dancing as possible considering the insane amount of people in the front of the booth. I had the most fun dancing when Tiesto was off the decks at the end; and consequently the floor emptied out, the ac was blasting, and people began really getting into it. I didn't expect the party to end so early though, and I was DEFINITELY annoyed that Tiesto didn't come out and sign stuff @ the end. Whatever though... Shot outs to TA's - Nick, Mario, Ray, and Pete I had a blast. Let me know if you'll be up in NYC anytime soon. Next up on the decks PVD @ Roxy

I was suprised with Tisto's set, it was actually pretty good
not that it was particularly breathtaking, or spectacular IMO, but for me atleast, it was really nice to hear a lot of songs I have never heard before. Ofcourse, the many missing IDs in this tracklist could be due to the fact that I haven't gotten any new music in 2 months, but whatever. I liked his set.

I'll try to fill in some ID's tomorroww

unfortunatley, I must say, what could've been a fun and good and positive experience was horribly marred for me due to the overwhelming crowd of douchebags. So I found myself having kind of a crappy night, despite enjoying Tiesto's set...just too many moronic asses in that crowd...I don't even want to go into the incedent that happened in the "vip" room
ughhh

-------------------------------
me explaining the "incident":
--------------------------------

aight, if you must know
at some point during the night I made my way up to the VIP room to take a breather and give my feet/legs a much needed break.
After wandering around for 5 mins or so, I finally found a tiny corner of some piss/beer/puke soaked couch to squat on.
I hadn't been sitting there for more than 5 seconds when this total DOUCHE sits down next to me, pulls me aside, and starts trying to get me to leave the couch
It went something like this:

Douche: Hey buddy, you think you can move? I want to stretch my legs.
Me: Nah...sorry, I just got here, I need to rest.
Douche: Come on, move, I hurt my legs 3 weeks ago, and I want to stretch them.
Me: Sorry, but I am really tired, and I'm not moving, I was here first. Besides, there is plenty of space for you to stretch your legs right there.*me points to large space in front of douchebag*
Douche: Whats your problem man? You trying to give me an attitude?
Me: No, I'm just tired and I don't want to get up right now.
Douche: (threateningly) Want me to move you then?!
Me: Want me to fucking call security on you?
Douche: Look man, I paid for this seat, want me to get the manager here? I know him.
Me: You paid for this seat? This specific seat? You reserved it?
Douche: Did you pay for it?
Me: No, I work for Glow so I didn't have to.
Douche: Want me to prove it then? Come with me to see the manager!
Me: Go get this "manager" then, go ahead!
Douche: argh

at that point he gave up

fucking dumbass shit

I was thouroughly annoyed after that point. Im sick of all these slimy douchebags who think they are gods gift to the universe...the crowd was full of them last night

tiesto wasnt what i expected from him. couple of months ago, his style different. either he woke up on the wrong side of bed or hes trying to be different that he is. crowd was too crowded during the 1st half then it clear but was alittle easier. i am 101% sure he play Andy Hunter - Go (Antillas Remix) and naked angel. there should be a recalled on the top100 djs. hes deffenitely in the top 10 but not my #1, it is reserve for someone

Agreed 100%. I thought he set was kinda hard. Could you please ID these "Cheesy" tracks. Because you must know the title, if they were so cheesy. And he did play Naked Angel, i do remember that track.

I don't know the titles, but I know cheez when I smell it. It wasn't terribly bad cheez. It was just cheez.

I think Andain "Beautiful Things" was played towards the beginning. All the girls were singing karaoke to that one.

Posted by sammy6979 on Nov-03-2003 03:37:

my review, from the glow forum

First off let me apoligize to everyone on this board for missing my own meetup. I seriously feel like the biggest jerk ever. Circumstances beyond my control didn't have me even getting into DC until shortly after 9. So we opted to just head right over to the club, and aviod a long line. Next time, these "circumstances", won't be riding with us, unless they are on time. But again, Sorry to all that I couldn't even show up, that is just terrible, and I should be taken out and shot for it.

Now, on to the night! Tiesto's set was freakin' amazing!!! His mixing was dead on all night!!! Even better than it was in May! He destroyed that crowd! But I agree, the set definitely didn't take me on any sort of musical journey, but it was still great none the less. Didn't recognize many tunes, which I have found, is much more fun then knowing every track he plays. Highlights of the night were of course Beautiful Things, Traffic, and Faithfullness. Also I really enjoyed hearing Andy Hunter - Go (Antillas Remix) <--track 26 I believe, and always nice to hear Rank 1 - Breathing(Airwave 2003)(Breaks Dub). Noticibly missing though was his remix of Adagio for Strings?!?!?!?! Why the hell didn't he play that??? I thought that song would have been a lock to hear last night! I can't believe Tiesto just jetted at the end! What was that about??? Didn't sign and autographs or shake any hands???? That seemed very UN-Tiesto like to me. Great job by Pete to finish the night off, although I thought that it was sorta strange. Good job mixing Pete and playing some good tracks. Unfortunately, the energy in the club seemed to drop several noches after he came on. Guess I'm just still kinda shocked he didn't come back out and throw on 1 more to polish the night off. But I still had a great time, and now will be sore as hell all week.

Mad props from me to the Panorama crew out front last night. I had an issue with 2 of my friends not being there when they started letting us in, but they checked in all my online tix, and then let them in when they did get there. Thanks a lot guys! You're the best! In fact, I thought last night seemed to be the most organized out front I've ever seen it.

Glow virgins, Corrie & Megan, had an awesome first experience. They really enjoyed Tiesto's set, as I knew they would. So I'm very glad they had a great night was well. You know its always good to hear, "so when's the next one?" On the trip home.

Shout outs to Glitter, sky, Mario, Sergio, Nubreed and the rest of the regular glow crowd. Sorry if I didn't say hi, I probably either didn't see you or didn't recognize you. I didn't really see any TA's to be honest. I know they were there, but I was hanging in the back for most of the night, just not enough room up front. The only time I even bothered to try was at the end of Tiesto's set, and even then it was still too crowded to move.

Apoligies again to glitter, sky, and Mario, I know you guys made the meetup, not sure about anyone else. Never again, I promise.
Great night, and I'll see you guys at Armin!

Please describe what made those songs cheesy? Cuz I didn't hear any vocal songs until Beautiful things, and that is not cheese. Was it something in particular? Cuz I think if PVD had played the same tracks, no one on this board would be calling it cheese.

Posted by djdl on Nov-03-2003 06:15:

well, i was debating whether or not to go to this, but ultimately decided not too cuz of the overpackedness of glow when a superstar dj comes. however, it seems like there was some room to dance after an hour, so i wish i went. esp since that fact that i dont think tiesto will be coming to the states for a long time cuz he will be touring south america and asia for most of next year. well im glad that the peeps that went had a good time, and now i wish i was there to enjoy it with yall. but no fret my pet (wow, just remembered that line from family matters) armin will the off the heezy fo sheezy.
