Dunno How do you know?

Ok, I just want different people's answers to this question. How does everyone keep up with all the electronic music out there? I've been into trance for going on two years now and I am CONSTANTLY seeing names of songs and mixes and producers that I have NEVER heard of. Trance is ALL I listen to. I've listened to internet radio like Digitally Imported and been reading internet sites and all.... I just don't see how anyone could ever know all the different songs and mixes and producers. Maybe it's because I spend a lot of time listening to live DJ sets. I'm TOTALLY about the live set compared to buying a studio album. Anyway, just wanted to see what people had to say....

Same here man. I've been listening to trance for over 4 years now and it never ceases to amaze me at the enormous amount of trance I see that I've never heard of before. I know I'd REALLY be in the dark if it were not for good old TA but seriously nobody can stay on top of it all. Its just not humanly possible when you consider just how much new music hits the streets every week. Every Sunday I hit Juno to see the new trance releases come out. Out of 50-70 new releases on average, I'll recognize only a handfull. And this is just the new trance releases. I just look at it as a good thing though. There is so much music, you never know when you may discover that amazing tune when you least expect it. And its especially great for DJs. There is so much music to choose from, we can enjoy unique sets weekly.

i hear you..

i get ideas from forums like this, music sites, friends (dj's mostly), and clubbing (when a dj spins a good song). when i do searches of producers i like, i often see songs when they remix another producer that I can check out

one thing i learned is that it's impossible to be caught up unless you listen to music several hours a day

i just think its crazy how many amazing tracks there are out there, and to think that we are only gonna encounter a hand full.

Yes! Finally somebody sympathises with me! I am just getting into trance and it is so hard to find out everything and keep up on it! I just try to find about 5-10 artists I really enjoy and get into them alot. Then just keep on eye on everything else.

I suppose we all have the same problem, some more than others.

Too much trance music and new productions out there for anyone to keep up but listening to live bradcasts is a good way to keep up, i've been listening to trance for about 4-5 years and the last 2 for me have been more hectic than ever!

Talking

I got into trance originaly by just listening to the radio (yeah, can you imagine?) there was a live show on at 10PM on Saturday nights called 'Live at the rage' Everyone in Vancouver knows Z95.3. Since then, I recorded songs with a tape player, most of the time this music is word of mouth, going to events, listening to the music.. keeping up with the latest.

It's a difficult task, i've been listening to electronic music for almost 11 years, still cant keep up no matter how hard I try, and want to.

Yeah Power 92 has a thing every saturday called Club 92 from like 8-12..its not all trance, but its some.

This is one of the reasons I love these forums. Without TA I'd be lost in the masses

Smoking ..umm..something

i'm glad i'm not the only one......

I do the same ....mostly check out websites and T.A (ie: trance.nu, ivibes.nu). I just check out the DJ playlists and tracklistings to find out whats new.

The site that really cleared things up for me was www.ivibes.nu in the artist profiles where they give u a background of the diff. producers and their different aliases. A lot of times u'll see a lot of diff. productions but all in all its more the same producers but just diff. guises. The hard part is keeping up w/ who's who and when tracks came out. lately I have discovered that a lot of new producers are getting into the scene which is great (elevation, rusch & murray, etc.)

edit: oh yeah, tune into Global DJ Broadcast too !

Yeah dude, it's hard.... constantly learning everyday. Just keep browsing forums (I think they are the best method), then subscribe to a magazine like DJ magazine, listen to radio, browse online charts, etc. There is no one way... it's a combination of things.

Oh, and you could always befriend Tiesto or PvD or Armin, etc.

It's hard work really and requires alot of dedication, and even then you're most likely to still come across a few "huh? who, what, when?"s every now and then. A State Of Trance and other online radio shows such as Oslo Nights and the Subtraxx Experience are good shows to listen to if you want to hear the hottest new tunes and get previews of tracks from up and coming artists, but basically I still feel out of the loop and have to turn to my all-knowing friends every now and then. :P

A state of trance, livesets and TA is all you need

Posted by razzi on Nov-12-2003 14:34:

i think that TA is a great way for people to get into trance... at least a few types. there is such a huge bias in the forums, that alot of n00bs will think that this may be it. *throws on asbestos jumpsuit* TAs love to flame i think that checking out different record websites provide a good source for new releases in different genres of trance/techno, and this is a great place to hear the newest stuff.. also listening to a variety of livesets, and of course checking up on the trustworthy TA boards for armin, pvd, g&d releases.

Posted by slinkyhead on Nov-12-2003 17:36:

it really does amaze me how much some ppl know. But the best thing is downloading a random song and then that song becoming huge

its a good feeling

Posted by zapper on Nov-12-2003 18:11:

It's impossible to keep up with everything that's beeing released, and I think that's a good thing, because then you can go to a party and have that special feeling when you're hearing a fantastic track for the first time.

Posted by djstaticburn on Nov-12-2003 20:00:

online record stores, planetxusa.com, i goto that site and listen for hours, also, online forums and friends that spin mainly trance, i started out spinning trance but got into breaks for 2 yrs or so, but i miss the emotion that prog./epic trance has so back to the record shops

An ex filled me in on so many different dj's and songs. I just kind of took over from there. Websites, DJ friends, other friends, shows.... the info's out there. You just have to look!

Posted by torontotrance on Nov-12-2003 22:06:

comes with time and what you read and where you read it. I mean I consider myself uptodate on the music industry but it's hard, so many artists and so many labels...even for ppl like me to keep up with.

Posted by Floorfiller on Nov-12-2003 22:18:

everybody...

just think about how much music there is...ok we all might know about trance and stuff...but then think about how much prog there is...and how much house...i mean shit i don't know anything about those genres really and i'm sure there is just as much hehehe...

VIVA LA MUSICA!!!

Posted by torontotrance on Nov-12-2003 22:29:

I know a lot about music and a lot about different genres (even tho I may seem a fountain of knowledge)...i know a little bit compared with the amount of knowledge that is out there. I enjoy music and enjoy learning about it but there are 1000's of labels and 100,000's of artists. Trying to keep up with them is like trying to beat a kenyan champ running the marathon...impossible and you will end up injured. Just listen to what you like but keep an open mind for other genres.

Posted by xtr3m on Nov-12-2003 22:41:

Just listen to ASOT or something.
