Which is the best (and worst) pair of headphones?
Hello.
All you DJs, name the best - and the worst - pair of headphones that you have heard. (Note that the best headphones for techno/trance may sound like crap on all other types of music, and the worst headphones for techno/trance may still work decently on some of the other types of music.) 
And please ignore the ranting by Gluegun in the "Sennheiser Headphones" thread.

and didnt like them as much.

I am bringing this up to the top...
And if I wasn't impressed with the Sony MDR-V700DJ headphones, I might not have listened to them with the right music...heheheh... The shop that I had demoed them at was playing classical music through them! That kind of music really brought out the worst from those V700DJ's (heheheh... classical music sounds way better from open-air headphones. DUH!). Nonetheless, my ears may grow fond of those V700DJ's with some types of music.

Don't confuse me with "Slim Shady"! I really don't care for most rap music!!! 
I still can't decide what the best headphones for trance/techno are - but I can say that the Sony MDR-V600 is among the worst headphones that I've heard recently.
The worst trance hp's are definetly the Sony MDR-V150...
And the best are or the Sennheiser HD-25 or the Technics RP-DJ1200.

This post is not only to bring this thread up to the top, but I'm updating the original topic of this thread...
As of now, it's been split into two parts (four questions).
1. Which brand/model of headphones is the best for DJ beat matching? The worst?
2. Which brand/model of headphones is the best for listening to trance? The worst?
Think about these four questions. When you're finished, please answer to these four questions.

Ok i have some special question for you . What's the best headphones for a 50$ (canadian) budget ?
FASTDJMP3, that's a tough one to answer. $50 (canadian) roughly equals $30 (U.S.) - and since this is a DJ forum, I found that none of the headphones priced at $30USD ($50CAN) are suitable for DJ'ing. In fact, nearly all of them (for that price) are crappy to begin with.
Ok let's say 50 US (75 Canadian) ...
Not much for $50US ($75CAN), either...
In fact, decent headphones for DJ'ing all cost well over $100 Canadian.
I would say stanton are one of the worst dj headphones around. I used to own a pair and they started breaking around 3 months and were totally useless weeks later
It's not for dj'ing , i want headphones to use them in my mp3 player that's all (rio volt) but i want something very good and not expensive
FASTDJMP3, if you can find Koss in your area, and if you're just buying headphones for your MP3 player that are way better than the supplied ones, then I will recommend something like the Koss Sporta Pro or Koss Porta Pro (or Koss KSC-35, if you prefer earclip-type headphones). All of those will be priced in the $50-$75 (Canadian) range.

the Koss KSC-35's and the Koss KSC-50's sound better than the Sportapro and the Portapros. See if you can go look at Circuit City or Best Buy, or something. Anyways, you CAN order either (I'd suggest you go with the 35's) at Koss's website.

So why exactly where the Sony MDR-V600 so bad?
Highs too loud? Highs too soft? Lows too soft? Lows too soft?
Too upfront? Too laid-back? Not enough detail? Too artificial?
Not loud enough?
I bought some V600's a couple years ago for 99 bucks before I got into djing and they seem acceptable for djing now, I don't think it's worth it for me to pay 129 or more for Sony 700's or Senseisers..

MDR-V700J
Hey, I'm new to this board, as you may have noticed from my post count...
But anyway, I just wanted to say that I got a pair of the Sony MDR-V700DJ's a few weeks ago for $94 (USD) from Guitar Center. They had a bunch of them for $130 but they price match any other stores, including online stores so I just printed out a etronics.com page and saved $36.
As for the headphones, I think they're great. I had to return the first pair cause there was a slight buzz that was noticible only when there was deep bass only, but it was anoying anyway. The second pair are fine and I love them. I won't go in to specific details cause people already have, but if you really want me too I could...
We hate the V600's because they're, well bad.
The thing is with you all, for creating trance, you all kinda need a specific type of headband (one where the speakers swivel all the way around so you can pay attention to one side, or listen to something else), and bloated midbass and lower midrange helps you with beat matching, and you don't need real bass extension because you don't really have the tools, when mixing trance, to get really low bass (unless if you shell out the dough), and you need easy to drive closed headphones that block a lot of sound...
Unfortunately, if you pay for all of those necessary DJ features, you are gonna get a set of crappy overpriced headphone (by the flimsiest of audiophile and bang-for-your-buck standards), so, if you want to get something for just kind of, well, actually LISTENING to music, you can do *WAY* better than the Sony VCRAPDJ line....anyways, if you want something for listening to music, just ask me here about it; tell me your criteria and price range and what sort of music you listen to, and what you'll be listening to out of, and how important comfort and sound isolation is, and yadda yadda yadda. Anyways, here's what a friend of mine had to say about the MDR-V600's...
"the Sony V600 is not the same as the Sony V6! I have the V6 (and 7506), and had owned the V600 - Among the MDR-V###DJ series headphones, the V600 is definitely the crappiest model of that series (of those priced over $50USD). The V600 came out back in 1993 to replace the V6 - but turned out to be very disappointing! What a piece of crap!! Overboosted response between 300Hz and 1kHz, weak response below 200Hz, no deep bass whatsoever, very recessed response from 2kHz and 8kHz, and peaky uneven response above 8kHz! That's very inaccurate, to say the least! And if that isn't bad enough, the V600 suffers from all sorts of resonant tinny ringing and unnaturally echoing noises, to boot. (I read the positive reviews of the V600 on AudioREVIEW.com saying that you need good equipment to drive the V600 to its full potential - but I don't buy those arguments at all. Those people must have owned equipment whose headphone amps themselves significantly colour the sound, thus making a GOOD-sounding pair of headphones sound like crap. LOL!!!!) The MDR-V600 is the real MDR-VCRAPDJ!!!"

Heheheh, Gluegun. That's PRECISELY what I found of those Sony MDR-V600's! It's the suckiest of the $50+ MDR-V###DJ line - and the other three (MDR-V500DJ, MDR-V700DJ and MDR-V900) are just plain mediocre for music listening. (The MDR-V600 and the MDR-V900 are not true DJ headphones - though their earcups can be flipped over so that one driver faces outwards, neither swivels side-to-side far enough to allow the same thing.)
And Gluegun, that person who originally started that thread about Sennheiser headphones (that you also posted replies in) had posted a reply of his own two days ago in which he said he has a Bose audio system. That system - and ALL Bose systems - SUCK! Their main units only work well with the sucky speakers that came with it - and you can't upgrade to better speakers on those systems! Worse, their headphone outputs are almost as feeble as those of most portable CD or MD players. Two mottos for Bose come to mind:
NO HIGHS, NO LOWS, IT MUST BE BOSE
and
BOSE BLOWS
Enjoy your "audiophile" music listening while you can - and don't let those "dumb-@$$ bass freaks" sway you into listening to nothing but crappy overpriced headphones!!!

ok, i haven't really been into this whole headphone debate...
but i have a question, plain and simple
gluegun: i'm looking for a pair of DJ headphones, relatively cheap (like $100 canadian) that have a good bass response, and are not too shabby in the mids and highs (these are not my main priority, i just need to hear the bass right now)... these will be used primarily for DJing... keep in mind, that i woun't be ordering from the internet, just walking into a store and picking them up
