Don't even THINK about sellin' those vibrators in Texas!

Did someone call in Chuck Norris, the Texas Ranger for this?:

quote:
Woman's sex toy parties incur the wrath of Texas
By Andrew Gumbel in Los Angeles
22 January 2004

Joanne Webb does not immediately come across as a menace to society. She is a 43-year-old happily married housewife who runs her own business in a small town near Dallas.

Recently, though, the authorities in Cleburne, Texas, learned exactly what it was she did for a living - selling vibrators, gels, lubricants and nipple creams at confidential Tupperware-style parties - and decided she had to be stopped at all costs.

Two undercover narcotics investigatorsapproached Ms Webb to purchase a vibrator and she was hauled into court on an obscure state obscenity law banning the sale of items "designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs".

Facing a year in prison and a $4,000 (2,180) fine if convicted, Ms Webb has now become a legal cause clbre. "We have a real problem with drugs in our schools," Ms Webb marvelled, "and they're using our narcotics officers to entrap me for selling a vibrator".

Sex toy parties are all the rage across the United States, largely thanks to the California-based company that Ms Webb represents, called Passion Parties. She, like an estimated 3,000 other women, sets up discreet private events to push the company's product line and earning a living from the sales commissions.

Ms Webb's lawyers hope to have her case thrown out on constitutional grounds.

You know, I heard about that, and totally forgot about it. Thx for the correction.

Yet another reason not to go to that dump. Especially to South Central without a few of these:

Posted by RenderedDream on Jan-28-2004 00:55:

i have this theory..women were prefering vibrators than those fat ugly politicians..so they made up this..."law"..

ahhh yes, federalism at its best

The courts will most likely rule in her favor, striking down the law....Texas and their crazy laws!

Posted by ezbeats on Jan-28-2004 05:20:

i am from texas, it has a great party and rave scene, though the law has cracked down on it there quite a bit, next to california it has the best rave scene in america... but besides the point..

childish comment # 1, you are a real nit-wit to think texans wear 10-gallon hats, and yeah ill have a 'psychotic day'... moron

quote:
wierd states....

indeed, but if you look into the states laws there are many outdates usually non-practiced laws that make absolutely no sense, this law is one of the more reasonable ones actually...

quote:
after reading this i realized i underestimated the american's stupidity..

childish comment # 2, only proves your ignorance further

quote:

how old are most of you guys? the comments you made make you sound like a bunch of jaded ass 16 year olds. grow up??

http://www.lawguru.com/weird/

And where in his post did he claim pride for his state much less for any of those reasons? Re-reading his post, he corrected childish generalizations and expressed a liking to the edm scene in Texas. Perhaps you should read it.

Texas only got a bad reputation cause Bush was our governor at one point. We dont all wear cowboy hats and no we dont all own horses and not all of us believe in laws such as capital punishment. Those are all really stupid common stereotypes ignorant people such as yourself believe. "OMG Bush is from Texas that means all Texans must be like Bush".

shut up you kanuck (sp?) lol just joking, im not going to hate you cause you like 'canadian' bacon, ey? dont ya know? haha lol ever seen that old cartoon, Bobby's World? ey? dont ya know?

back on topic... yeah i have pride, every few miles down the highways, there are signs that read, "Don't Mess With Texas". im proud of my state, and its road signs.
besides, about capital punishment, whats wrong with that? maybe the requirements to be sentenced of it need to be more harsh, but some people, such as hitler just to name one, deserve to be put to death, in MY opinion, a texas native.

and lets not get started on this bush thing. if you dont live in america your opinion of bush means less than dog shit to me. and if you are in america, you know bush only had the power to invade iraq for so long, maybe, just maybe, there are other people who are responisble for the situation too, besides just bush. but nope. you are just looking for someone to blame, or are too ignorant to think for yourself. not saying bush isnt part responsible for iraq, obviously he is, but so is his dad! ohhhh, im joking, i just wanted to say that before one of you did. but think about it, do words like, congress, senate, house of representatives mean anything to you? maybe you need to be bashing on congress too, not just bush. though, i must admit i dont follow politics very closely nor have any idea whats really going on in the government, but the sad part is, i dont think 90% of america really does either. go figure.

George W. Bush is a terrorist.

Posted by Dmatrox on Jan-28-2004 06:12:

George Bush is indeed a terrorist, or at least his family has/is engaged in business with the "bin ladin's". May be he isnt a terrorist, but his family is/has supported it indirectly. S'all about the Saudi oil.

Posted by ezbeats on Jan-28-2004 06:51:

well dmatrox you seem to have everything figured out. i feel there is no way to respond without antagonizing someone further, which i am not meaning to. so im just not going to reply to anything else in this thread.

one last thing, but i cant resist:

but his family is/has supported it indirectly

i smoke weed, so i too, must be supporting terrorism. if you dont live in the u.s. this will probably not make sense to you. its from a commercial here.

nothing, it was a comment to b.s.e's comment. Bin ladin's own businesses around the US, not sure if its Texas or not, but i saw a documentary on CBC about the Bin Ladins and the Bush family. I dont think they show that in the US.

I didnt start the flame, merely continuing it.

I dont have a problem with texas, only bush. In our country we don't support leaders that suck. Most of us never supported Jean Chretein anyways.

Some how i may have hurt your poor feelings and you generalize that canadians are assholes? wow fuck you

If you think that's scary, check out the Texas Republican Party's Platform:

If Bush is reelected, I have no doubt the US will become a theocracy because of his supreme court appointments. That's not even hyperbole on my part folks.
