Posted by TranceManDan2k1 on Aug-03-2001 18:20:

yea it is a very good cd he made at Cream . i bought it when it first came out and at the virgin meaga store i payed $40 for the 2 cd set . well worth it to.difinatly a clasic set.

no matter what people say about good ole Oakey hes is still one of the inovaters in this scene in my book.

Posted by havok118 on Aug-03-2001 18:22:

It's not live, he spun the mix in the studio, and inserted recorded samples from Cream into it at key points.

Isn't that creative...

Posted by TranceManDan2k1 on Aug-03-2001 18:29:

i find that hard to belive . Got Proof?

Posted by LiquidX on Aug-03-2001 18:31:

Not live ?!?! sounds just like it was live .. at the pick of tunes you hear the crowd... and such , fits soooo into it .

Review of CD:

"Resident serves as a retrospective album featuring many of the trance anthems Oakenfold made famous during his two-year residency at the British club Cream. Featuring recorded crowd reactions, this double album often feels as if one is actually listening to Oakenfold perform one of his many legendary sets at the club. The crowd reactions provide the sort of communal feel one gets a club but usually doesn't hear on other DJ mix albums, such as those on the Global Underground label. Many of the 24 trance and progressive house tracks featured on Resident are remarkable works, such as Tilt and Paul Van Dyk's "Rendezvous" and Matt Darey's mix of Agnelli + Nelson's "El Nino." Unfortunately, many of these same tracks can be found on Oakenfold's other albums from the late '90s. Even so, Resident diffuses the compressed intensity of Tranceport and brings continuity to the jagged flow of Global Underground 002: New York. The first set focuses more on progressive house tracks with vocals, while the second set features many of the best hands-in-the-air anthems of this particular era. "

Not live.

There you go, hoss.

I know its not live, and the tracks are classics, but it is getting old... i liked it a LOOOOONNNNG time ago when it came out too.

Liquid, next time you want a CD, instead of buying it let me know and i can burn it for you - i have most of them!

The above statement doesnt prove anything...especially that it wasnt recorded live. How do you get that from that statement???

^^^Means they recorded the crowds reaction...and when listening it makes you feel that you are there with the crowd. (nothing about it being recorded in a studio)

^^^Means that usual recorded live cd sets, might not actually record the crowd.

When recording a live set you have outputs from your mixer right into the recording device...to get the crowd they would need a mic or microphones placed for getting the crowds reaction.

I have the CD, it actually says so in the booklet that came with the CD... but its still a good CD.

What does it say in the booklet?

Posted by I Cant Focus on Aug-03-2001 22:32:

I've always wondered if this was truly a "live mix", but now that I've read that statement, I thought correctly. Whoever owns this mix, go back and listen to it carefully and listen strictly to crowd reaction - you'll discover it's the same crowd/voices cheering the same thing over and over again. It makes perfect sense now...still a great mix collection though.

Thumbs up Greatest Trance compliation of the 90's

no doubt in my mind....

this double CD got me into trance almost 3 years ago.....especially Tilt - Children......i listened to it so much and started to really "get" trance music, so i guess this one has like more meaning to me than other discs

for anyone who doesnt have it, this is a MUST have

too bad he doesnt spin this style anymore

i would list my favorites, but i swear EVERY track has at one point or another been my favorite of the album, El Nino, Eisbaer, Sin City, Shine, Someone, blah blah blah, i guess i just love them all......

hands down my all time favorite album

Hehehehe thanx ABT !!!!!! but the fact is I didnt buy it .. hehehehe, i D/loaded it to give it a check, and see what Oakey had back then, and what I missed, I been getting lotsa Oakeys 99- 00 livesets, and I loooooove those !!!! they kicks so much ass !!! hehehe.. I got that essential live mix from here Miami set, from Shadow Lounge, and whats funny is that they friking go live from shadow Lounge to be transmited on the UK !!!!! and we here in MIami have never gotten something like it ! ggggrr..

Anyways, I know, this is an old CD, I remember seen it when It first came out on the stands of the Virgin Mega. But I was just getting into trance, getting the taste of the euphoria and george acosta CD's. I really didnt know what the tracks were there, was just an ignorant, now I see it , and its just an awesome classic thats added up onto my collection.

I still ocasionally put this cd into my listening rotation, I consider it to be Oakie at the peak of his career. I miss those late 90's sets.

Sounds good to me

Posted by QuickStep on Aug-04-2001 15:16:

That does suck about the not live thing. I really thought the crowd was hyped to be there, I know I would.

Still is one of the best CDs he's done. He caught me with Armin - Blue Fear, I was listening to Jerry Bonham then. Bonham's version of Blue Fear was crazy, I thought no one could match that track. Then Oakie had to throw a crowd in it, which made it more powerful. And yes, that mix between Skydive and Universal Nation *shivers* *goose bumps*

If you don't own it, get it. You've missed out.

Payce
