Which producer has the best sounding kick drum?
Hey!
I wonder which producers u think has the best sounding kick drums? My favorite are for sure the Above & Beyond kicks! Punchy and powerful!
//toomas / toka
the pocket damage kick..
I don't know about kick, but the most professional sound goes to Pulser (Andy Persing) and I know how he gets that crisp killer sound and Im gonna be buy that device very shortly
tell other people about the device please..though Im sure he doesnt produce good tunes cos he has it..
Yep, the Kick in My Religion is absolutely killer. What does he use for it?
heh
best kick = Mr. Sam i just realized this ****** has got some serious talent. his Vision mix of Narjana is fuckin owning me right now
Ok Guys, I'll tell you cause I'm not greedy type. But in the future, little advice, don't wait for others to give you the answers, go out and ask. Most of the time producers will be very helpful, others time they aren't, but a few tips from pro's can really improve your productions. As for Pulser's sound, here is the email he sent me:
Trancenrg69:"Hey Andy, big fan of your work. I'm an amateur trance producer about to build a new studio. I heard alot of people talk about the Universal Audio UAD-1 Card. But I'm not sure it's good for trance music. I notice you have it in your studio list. Do you use this card alot, is it worth buying ? any reply would be much appreciated. cheers"
Pulser: "All I can say about the UAD-1 is that its what makes my tracks sound like they do. I use it all the time especially the Cambridge EQ, The Pultec EQ, The LA2a & 1176 in fact I use just about every plug-in it has. The Preflex plugin is great for crunching up claps. I would highly recommend it."

my fav kick in a trance track is john askew's kick in his remix of waterplanet - introspection. gotta love that kick
Pulser - best kick
System F - best clap

i really like the kick on most of Paul Glazby's tune, slightly thin but really agressive and sound like they are sucking in rather than pulsing out. Its a unique sound.
i like Filo and Peri's kick in elevation
This is one of the reviews I found about the UAD-1 card
"sorry, this card is garbage..."
Althought the plugins sound very good, I own a real 1178 and LA-2 and though the plugins don't sound anywhere near as good as the real deal, they sound as good as any plugin can, you are very limited to the amount of them you can use a the same time AND it's architecture requires that you create extra aux and bus configurations to fix it's hardware issues (explained below) so that you don't really buy back much processing power from your CPU anyway (certainly not $600 worth of it!). the card's latency is incredibly problematic and frustrating and many extra steps are requried to compensate for it (and that only sort of fixes it), so a lot of time is wasted configuring your system to grudgingly use the UAD plugins where as a native plugin would be up and running perfectly, instantly... Go with the Waves plugins instead, they rock, there are NO issues with them, and they're not that much more expensive! If you.re having plugin problems because your CPU is old and tired or you don't have enough RAM, this card is not the answer... the answer is: it's time to upgrade your system!
ace da brain for his insane quality --for example george acosta - emotions (dj marc la cruz mix)
pure evil
Not trying to turn this into a UAD-1 thread, but I've heard a lot of negatives about it's compatibility like mentioned above. The Cambridge EQ and Pultec are by all accounts wonderful, but at what cost. I would love to get some definitive answers about the UAD-1. If anyone here has it or knows a lot about it, start another thread about it.
And, I like A&B kicks.
I pity those who ever took advice from Design. First of all, that review should not be even called a review. You got that off zsounds.com from some nobody. Funny how you failed to mention the amazing reviews from the top audio magazines in the world.

Do some real research, not zsounds reviews. Have the ratings on there are laughable. They give Mackie 624's a lower rating than behringer truths and you expect me to take that review seriously.
Pulser is a very respected trance producer and the quality of his tracks are stellar. The Thrillseekers and Dreas also use it.

here is a post on powercore and uad-1 cards. It's are I ever heard someone badmouth this card.
id say right now that luke chables kicks are very pleasing to listen to. in each of his originals or remixes, the kicks keep the roundness and slight pop in the high end. they dont wear on the ears and keep the full dynamic low end sound that makes it boomy and cut through the mix.
I have heard nothing but good about the Pultec EQ. I also head that the 1176 sounds quite nice. Thanks for the links TE.
i think pvds kickdrum is unique!
but my favouruit kicks are made by paavo, tony and jono!
may it be a&b or oceanlab or...
No Problem Etherium.

I said that was a quoted review if you read carefully.
It seems to me you're feeling a little vulnerable today, 'cause some of the UAD-1 weaknesses were exposed. But that's not my problem, I was just trying to help. If you want to go out and blow $600... go ahead.
Vunerable?, no I think it's lack of education on your part.Who the hell are you coming on the thread with your 'copy & paste" review. Why don't u do a little researh and maybe actually go out and listen to it before you post irrelevant reviews. Why didn't you quote from a respected sound engineer or musician rather than some nobody on zsounds. Buying a uad-1 card isn't blowing it's being smart. Go on KVR and ask what people think of the UAD-1, no hardware or software is perfect. that's why we have updates and upgrades Einstein. Go listen to a Pulser track then come talk to me about bad reviews. I've heard guys bitch that Mackie hr824's suck, I've heard reviews where guys said Genelecs were crap and that Behringers were better. You think I'm gonna base my decision on a purchase based on what some dude wrote on some forum. I did my research, I've heard it, and the jury is in, Uad-1 rules, and u suck. Now get lost!
I emailed The Thillseekers http://www.thethrillseekers.co.uk/
One of the best Trance producers of all time. Take a look at the Discography. These guys are legends. I emailed them.
Message: Hey guys great work on Santa Cruz. I wonder if I can ask you a quick question, I noticed you have a UAD-1 card in your studio list. Do you use this card in your tracks. Is it worth getting? Any feedbackwould be appreciated. cheers
Reply: I max out the UAD on every mix....love it
Enough said!
i love l vee's kick under the airwave alias. proper powerful and punchy
there is alot of good kicks out there, if they were all the same it would suck too. Certian kicks fit tracks better than others.
Pointless thread really.
