oakie rumors?
I dont know if this is true or not, but is Oakie comin out with a new CD sometime soon? cuz this is what I heard from my boss who is a VIP @ the Guverment in TO and was talking to Oakie and Nelly Furtado one night
Apparently Nelly is doing some vocals for Pauls next CD. Does anybody know if this is true or not? Cuz I do like her voice..just not her songs. So whats up with this?
I heard the same thing from a friend of mine who work at a club on South Beach.... i didnt hear about nelly doing the vocals, but that sounds like it would be a pretty good mix!

Hi TA's,
the sad thing about it is that paul oakenfold is a sucky producer.
His name is very well know here in the states so put his name on any cd and guess what, the people go to the cd store and BUY it. It's as simple as that. Listen to his remix of planet rock, it's weak. That tune has been remixed a thousand times over and he comes up with this wack ass lame ass cheap as remix that can only fool the general public.
I mean, give nelly furtado's vocals to ferry corsten, tandu, pvd, or even the poppy side of mauro picotto, then we're in business.

I have to say in ,oakies defence, i still really like the music he makes and plays. I loved the remix of muse - new born.
Sometimes he is a bit cheesy, but most are, he is just huge now.
But i hope his form does pick up soon, it is a little laking
yes she is....
Yeah i heard that she is doing the vocals for sure...

Word!!!!.....ABT
i dont think oakie is a good producer but he can spin really well.... ive enver seen him but ive heard some of his live sets and they arent bad at all. but rumors has it that his playlists are never-changeing lol. so who knows? :P but give him credit.. he did get famous for a reason. he was a pioneer of trance music... u ask many of the well known DJs today and surely Oakie is def on the most influential list.. i think Tiesto even may have said that...
as for nelly doing the vocals for oakie......HUH!?
EWWWW! i like nelly furtado but her voice can get quite whiney.... i love the junior Vasquez rmx of Fly Like a Bird.. but cant deny that her voice is a bit overly whiny.... it aint to soft on the ears... id rather oakie stick w/ jan johnston if and when he does a collaboration w/ a female vocalist.., just my personal opinion though!

Way to go, ABT.....nice one!
yes, nice one abt
lets start a "oakie awareness thread"
were we do not take sides, but discover thru ourselves and each other what oakie's been up to... then we can make our own judgements
e.g. i had no clue what he's been spinning for the past 6 months, i just go on what other people say (or bitch)
thank you, thank you.....just trying to give credit where it is due my friends...
Ok, here is the lowdown... i JUST got back to my house from seeing Oakie live at Mekka at Club Space in Miami... Trance[]Control-fan went with me, as did a bunch of my friends..
Oakie spun an awesome set! (Patticus and I had a bet on the side as to what songs he was going to play...)
Out of his entire 2 hour set (i called it on being a 2 hour set, lol..) I could only ID 4 songs!! Keep in mind that I am a BIG oakie fan, and know most of the records he supposedly "reuses" each and every liveset. (these are in no particular order...)
1)fatboy slim - star 69
2)Tiesto - Urban Train (patticus, i give ya credit you called it!)
3)Ameobassasin - Piledriver
4)Faithless - we come 1
Now, I know the "see i told you so" comments will commence here, so let me try to dispell a few.... first off, with "star 69"... yes its not new, but its also NOT played out, and nobody really spins it too much anymore. Thrown into a set at the right time, this track can move the audience -which it did... the entire crowd was chanting "they know what is what, but they don't know what is what.. they just strut..."
Urban Train is a newer track and all the DJ's are spinning it, so i don't want to hear any complaints about this track..
Ameobassasin... I know this is probably one of his most frequently used records... but you know what? who cares? This is the track i believe was most recognized by the crowd tonight, for when Oakie threw it on, the WHOLE place went apeshit! To me, this track never gets old anyways, its epic... Very few songs can get away with male vocals....
Faithless, yes i know its old..... but still a great crowd pleaser. You would see arms up everywhere in the crowd pretending to play the "invisible piano" for the opening...
The rest of the records i'm assuming were all white-labels, the kind of stuff that oakie gets to check out before anyone else does. Let me tell you, they were weird but slamming!
As far as Oakie's style now... well, he kinda swung around all over the place... he would play epic/uplifting, then he'd switch gears to something that sounded like a mix between tech-house and breakbeat (but had to be the coolest "weird" tune i've ever heard....), then he even threw in some progressive techno (picotto-style), and he'd slip several (more often than not) progressive trance tunes. Seems like Oakie is heading in the general direction of Sashaville... or Digweedland....
Apparently Oakie is making a transition in his style of music... But he is the master of being able to throw down 6 different genres of music in one set and MAKE IT WORK. This is not everyone's cup of tea, and i realize this. I don't hold it against people if they don't like oakie... it just has to be for a good reason. NOT to jump on the bandwagon. A lot of people who "hate" oakie have never seen him live.. just heard his livesets on the internet. Well, let me tell ya something. I've seen him a total of 8 times now, and each of his sets in no way reflects the last... very seldom does he "re-use" vinyl. Anyone who disagrees with me and has seen him as many times, i will definitely love to hear what you have to say!
Apologize for the "long" post, but its kind of a review of his recent set, so hope i cleared some things up for yas.... oh and BTW, Oakie mixed a FLAWLESS set.... no screwups except for in the middle of one song, the needle skated a groove or two on this one record... but hardly oakie's fault... (probably a bad record or needle)
Another point of interest, Oakie also did a perfect backspin, and even an excellent touch-and-go! And yes, the entire time he is up there jumping around, holding his arms out at the song peaks.... awesome.
Cheers!

never changing playlists? give me a break! oakenfold is one of the few djs that can actually do a tour and play a completely different set each time, because he reads the crowd correctly and adjusts accordingly. he can pick a good song and play it many months before it even becomes recognized, let alone released. most of the livesets ive been hearing lately are all the same songs, most of them released or almost due for release. if oakenfold produced insigma - open your eyes, for example - you would all complain about it and think its a load of crap but if tiesto's name was there instead you would salute him as a god. grow up. if you are going to declare that oakenfold sucks or has lost his touch, at least back up your arguments and give us good examples of why so. i am yet to see someone that has actually done this.
a lot of you people seem to have very closed minds. you only seem to like the popular songs and are heavily influenced by the opinions of others on here (a lot of whom are still very young). it seems some of you still have a lot to learn about the music - tastes to develop and mature.
how many of you knew that paul van dyk actually refuses to be associated with the word 'trance'? like many others, paul van dyk and oakenfold are trying to turn away from this over-commercialized, now flooded market. 99.9% of productions released these days are talentless rubbish, and nearly all of this crap is being labeled as 'trance' (the rest is labeled 2step hehe) and this is making the good quality tracks extremely hard to find. you djs out there should know what its like trying to find a decent tune in the 'trance' section of your record store - imagine how many promos the big jocks have to sift through to find one worth playing. everyone wants to be the next one hit wonder so of course theyre going to send their crappy promos to them.
hmm... went a bit off track there... anyway, dont get me wrong - i love this music. the point i'm trying to put across here is that too many people are criticizing things they know little about. only bag if its legitimate and constructive.
hooray for abt and leight
dude im glad you enjoyed it.
i called "we come 1" too... lol
but i agree with your appraisals completely
i dont remember what amoeba assasin sounds like tho.. like mara - one
oh yah ABT what's a touch and go?
i was the one who stated that his set was supposedly never changeing but like i said, it was a rumor. and like i also said, ive got no prob w/ oakie.. i like his stuff... i def think he deserves credit... and last but not least, i did say IMO...hence my opinion... and that being said, i did mention that ive never seen him live... i WISH i could see him live but seems like oakie doesnt like Japan lol never seems to stop by here
thats ok though.. me gonna see tiesto/ ferry/ sevenson&gielen/ avobe & beyond this friday so iz all good :-P
sorry if anyone took wut i said offensively. i didnt mean it to seem that way. the sets that ive heard of his on the net, i dearly love
btw: does anyone know anything about his Goa mix silver/gold project? was that something taken from a set or a CD? i found it on the net and could never figure out wut it was.... id love any info regearding that!

goa mix silver is part 1 of the goa EM i believe.. maybe part two i cant remember off the top of my head
actually its part 1

they're just essential mixes for radio one
check out www.tracklistings.org
click 1994, check out the right essential mix
you'll see
Blueocean420 - my comments weren't directed towards you, i apologize if they came across that way.... There has been a LOT of oakie-bashing the last couple of months on here, and its basically directed to everyone else...
patticus - touch and go is using your finger to stop the playing record for exactly one beat, but getting it up to speed and beat-matched to the other record that you are fading in at the same time... this is VERY difficult b/c you have no idea when the beat is gonna kick in again... especially when you are not using your own tables that you are used to...
-ABT-
shite dude, that sounds complicated. maybe icq discuss in detail.
you stop the playing record BEFORE the kick, for a beat's length?
or after?
and wouldnt that totally mess up your mix, since it goes in cycles of 4 8s (or 32 beats)
or do you cue the 2nd record a beat behind so they come in with the same "structure"
yes.
oh, ok then.
I'll talk with you about it on ICQ tomorrow... i've got to get to bed soon! *yawn* ... crazy show...
-ABT-
Well, what can I say .. all I would say have been spoken allready.. soo.. all I'll say is that I cant belive I missed him play Amoebassassin - Piledrive .. <<< a true trance pleaser. aahhh..... heaven !
abt u got to see oakenfold man u are sooooooooooooo lucky!!
