Question Next Prime Minister in Canada

I vote for Steven Harper
quote:
Monday, April 05, 2004

(TRURO, N.S.) Opposition Leader Stephen Harper today, in a major economic speech, challenged the Prime Minister to come clean with his fiscal projections, and outlined six principles on which a Conservative economic plan will be based.

This governments fiscal dishonesty is symbolized by its latest budget, said Harper. This is apparent by the systematic underestimating of the federal surplus. Padded spending estimates have allowed this government to disguise waste, mismanagement and corruption. It is time for Paul Martin to come clean.

Paul Martin cant have it both ways, stated Harper. He claims to have had a tight rein on spending, but hasnt implemented even the most elementary spending control mechanisms. He claims to have reformed government programs, and to have eliminated waste and abuse, but he says that he had no idea that $100 million was shoveled into the hands of Liberal friendly advertising firms.

The sad irony of Liberal financial management is that spending continues to be ramped up each year, yet the only Canadians who seem to benefit are those who are friends of the Liberal Party, commented Harper. Our elderly are waiting longer for medical services, our students are paying higher tuition, our armed forces are watching their equipment decay, and our communities are watching their infrastructure crumble.

Harper also outlined the six principles on which the Conservative economic plan will be based, which are:

Honest surplus forecast assessments;
Targeted spending in areas that are of the highest priority to Canadians, including national defence and security, and compensation for our agriculture and forestry communities;
Additional funding for health care that is accompanied by objectives and performance measures;
Legislated debt pay down to meet specific targets;
Low tax, rather than high spending solutions, to public policy issues; and,
Tax reduction funded by eliminating government waste and mismanagement.
We believe that honest and transparent government is the only way to fully address the priorities of Canadians. Today, we have shown why the Conservative Party can be trusted to ensure that Canadians priorities reach fruition, concluded Harper.

Steven Harper, are you nuts, he's as good as Ralph Klein and believe me Ralphy is only good for a bar owner from an old, western cowboy movie, town.

hmm i know nothing about them, what does they stand for, when is the election, who is in the lead etc? =)

Initially, i would have voted for Paul Martin, but since government scandals have been exposed and various other problems within the liberal government most specificially non disclosure of information and secrecy (unlike the US in this aspect), i am undecided.

I would not vote Harper because his knowledge and experience is not sufficient. Also, the conservatives are a bit right for my liking.

I would not vote NDP because they are socialists.

In terms of a political stance, i like where the liberal stands, but i still suspect wrong doing.

It has less to do with platform then with power. Paul Martin is the head of the Liberal party which currently enjoys a majority in the Parliament. He took over the party (and hence became Prime Minister) late last year and said that he would call an election sometime this Spring.

His government has been under fire from the opposition for corruption lately and so he might lose his majority if there was an election today. However anyone who things that the PC party would beat the Liberals in an election this Spring/Summer with the current situation remaining as it is, is dreaming.

Personally, I like Paul Martin. I believe that the corruption in the party is largely due to Chretien and his cronies. I find it strange how everyone is blaming him yet if they actually examined what he was doing, they would realize that he is taking serious steps to clean up the government. He seems a lot more focused on actually governing and accomplishing things than just holding on to power.

Look at the link i put in above.

I like paul martin too, but he chose not to release a 323 page report on meetings between him and his private company in a parliment meeting room while he was in office. Dont you think this is suspicious? I do. If you have nothing to hide, wouldnt you show it? Because not showing key documents under freedom to information act can hurt your reputation.

and yeah, liberals will probably win

I would like to say steven Harper. But welcome to canada ontario is going to be dumb enough to vote Liberal yet again and we will have another term of where is the money Paul?

Really how does the finance minister not know where the money is going. How do we pay millions of dollars for products and services that never existed.

I read their platform, and it's certainly a far cry from the US Republican Party platform of gay bashing and forcing Christian Fundamentalism upon everyone. They even think everyone should have healthcare and a clean environment.

If the US does turn into Iran, I know where I'm going lol.

Compare the Texas Republican platform to the Canadian Conservative Party platform, and thank Allah you don't have the South dragging down your country like a club foot:

Steve Harper is a prick who doesn't know his elbow from his ass. He's also tainted with old CRAP (Conservative Alliance) therefore too right for most Canadians' taste, esp. the immigrant population.

Jack Layton probably smokes some good quality BC pot to think properly. Hey, it's NDP. You know, the party has collective powwows and think their ramblings somehow make sense.

Paul Martin, well, I like him better than Cretin, but I laugh at him cuz Canada helped to liberate Norway in 1944.
And he's a liberal. How do you know when a Liberal is lying? He's in front of a microphone.

But hey, as long as he promises health care and maybe some education money, the Ontario votes will go to Liberals and that's all that really matters.

Lewis Mackenzie for PM.

I am voting NDP this coming election.

I hope that Canada will now work under a minority Liberal government. The government needs some reform... we have been functioning under a majority Liberal gov't for too long.

As for Stephen Harper, he is a fucking right-wing extremist, and a dumb one at that.

"Happy India Day!"... dumbass..

Posted by Dmatrox on Apr-19-2004 03:41:

theres a lot of socialists around here

i think NDP is too left wing and the conservatives are too right wing.

NDP too left wing?

They aren't left enough for me.

But I really hope the government swings a little to the left, because there's be a shift to the right lately... probably due to influence from the republican USA.
