Dunno What's the big deal w/ loving Tiesto so much?

I know I'm gonna get trashed and bad mouthed about this post, but really he is good but people on here are all over him. You know there are plenty of great DJ's out there that I don't see everyone rantin and ravin about. For example : Paul Van Dyk, Oakenfold, Digweed, Sasha, Sandra Collins, Acosta, Kai Tracid, Etc.

i am just as perplexed by this tiesto phenomenon as you mate
i may be fairly new to this board but i know my trance producers and Djs quite well and i honestly don't see the reason for the worship of tiesto that is so prevalent on this forum. he is a good dj and an ok producer but there are many others who have come before and after him that are better, maybe its just personal preference but that doesnt hold too well when you consider there are several other big names out there playing the same style and tracks as he just as well and/or better. so i guess i am still perplexed...

Someone close this fuckin thread

Posted by Frase on Apr-15-2004 20:45:

down to personal taste and opinion

no point discussing why people like him, if you dont like him, dont listen to his sets/productions or pay the money to go see him.

Simple

Posted by Wildfir3 on Apr-15-2004 20:47:

1. personal taste
2. not everybody is into tiesto, especially not @ TA
3. in before da lock?

About a million times

Flesh (tiesto mix)
Street Spirit (tiesto mix)
Flight 643
Suburban Train

^that's why I like Tiesto. No, his DJing isn't the best ever, but he's popular so that must say something... and as a producer he's very hit-and-miss. He's made some (IMO) great tunes like the ones above, but also plenty crappers like Traffic, Southern Suck, Love Comes Again...

And if you don't think people rant and rave about PvD and Sasha, then take a look around...

Posted by sandstorm03 on Apr-15-2004 20:56:

listen to te 2000 or his 2 year aniversity @ eau...and tell me they are not fucking amazing..

Posted by brianwilkinson on Apr-15-2004 20:56:

not to perpetuate this discussion but i HAVE to reply
so by your logic, darude and dj sammy are popular so that must say something, and no one ever said he sucked (tiesto) ofcourse he has had some good productions, i just can't seem to figure out the infatuation a lot (not all) of the TA users have with him.

I personally rave about pvd , but only in the closet

Posted by Radagast on Apr-15-2004 21:38:

The problem is that people are basing their opinions of him today on things he did 4 years ago.

Posted by George Kendall on Apr-15-2004 21:39:

tiesto can be awesome...most of the time he chooses not to be.

I saw him a few times last year...he was terrible most of the time.

Though I saw him at gkgg, he played THE worst set ever...truely awful, went to ibiza a couple of days later & saw him at cream on the following thursday & he was amazing.

His mixing is shocking most of the time now and he seems to be dropping the most awful techno tracks in the middle of chilling trance sets...puzzles me.

99/2000/2001 tiesto was incredible as a producer & dj
2002/2003/2004 meh

I will certainly credit you with having a valid opinion regarding the popularity and skill of Tiesto.

However, in your initial post, you rate George Acosta ahead of him, which I doubt anyone will condone.

Check out his pre-2k sets and bow before his greatness.

and then marvel at how he turned to shit in the space of 2 years

i like the new tiesto and his current trackselections. Its my flavor.

I had my doubts about Tiesto up until I saw him live at Glow in Washington DC in November of 2001, which coincidentally, was only minutes after Paul van Dyk's set at another venue in the city. Tiesto played the best set I ever heard, the club never had so much energy or love, it was a magical experience. My best clubbing night ever, due to his track selection and his demonstration of the love he has for what he does. I've heard many livesets by many DJs, but that night, he touched every single person in there with music. Needless to say, he blew PvD's set away.

Even though that was 2001, the creativity and the love for what he does is still there, he hasn't changed, just evolved. But those traits he has of an amazing entertainer are still there.

He played a concert by himself for 25k people last year, 2003, that's an incredible feat, I think he deserves all the credit he does get.

Why are people so concerned about this?? So what if 400 bizillion people like Tiesto and you don't. People like who they like for different reasons and listen to who and what they want to because that's what they're into and that's what gets them going. That's all it is, I'm amazed at people that listen to goth death metal but that's their thing and I leave it at that.

Yet somehow managed to retain massive popularity - he's like the anti-Oakey in the sense that he went to shit but stayed at the top.

I was never saying George Acosta is more talented than him, I was just saying there are other DJ's than just Tiesto to talk about. I think everyone is getting this thread twisted by thinking we're totally trashing the guy. No not at all. Got me?

Re: What's the big deal w/ loving Tiesto so much?

So apparently the new American TiT fad is Tiesto-bashing.

Erm, people on TA rant and rave about PvD much more than Tiesto. For every Tiesto praise, there are 10 people bashing him. Your argument doesn't make much sense.

Hmmmmmm. Ok you Limey Bast*rd, that's telling you right there in your words you are saying that it's obvious that Tiesto isn't the greatest.
1 Tiesto praise vs. 10 bashes ???

bwahaha so true.
His tracks are ok, just track placement within the set is total shit compared to 2001 and prior and also his mixing suffers because of it.

Yes, you're right. Because I base my own personal appreciation of trance on what the majority of people on TA have to say about it.

I think I like Danny Howells. Should I make a poll to know whether it's cool to like him?
