No Taucher, armin van buuren.

Surprised ferry corsten, tiesto are so low.

Question ??????????

bt dj's eh? wow. this is the same, or a similar list to the one that cause so many problems before. this should be fun to watch...peace.

Posted by RaverFriendly on Jan-17-2001 03:20:

I got a copy of this list a few months ago but i don't really buy it. It's not a true sample of the worlds opinion. Sounds like a very commercialized list...mostly from the states. dunno just my opinion.

Posted by Dj Furee on Jan-17-2001 03:53:

Mostly from the states?????? Mostly uk and euorope I say... Peepz just remember this is a list of djs that spin all kings of genres so since I know lots of u on this board mostly concentrate on trance, u wouldn't know them...This is the same Dj Mag list( a uk mag also popular in europe and can be found all over the world )and it is a list that it's readers voted on so there's already bias there...

latez...

Shame / Disagreement

I don't know where that magazine is from, but it looks like british shit.., Paul Van Dyk, Oakenfold are OK, the rest is bull shit..... Tiesto , Armin, Picotto, ferry corsten, Taucher, Timo Maas should be on the top ten too. Sorry guys, but that's how I think. To me, Tiesto is the best of them all.

Keep on Dancing,
Dorian Boy

Posted by defeated on Jan-17-2001 06:56:

sasha is god, no arguements from anyone who knows anything. danny tenaglia is the only one who can give him a run. the list is from DJ magazine in England and is voted by the peps who don't know very much. steve lawler should be higher, fergie and lisa lashes should die and john digweed should be number 2. they mix records, tiesto and co play such formated music. 64 beat intro, 16 beat break, 64 beat main track, 32 beat break with mega mega build up, 64 beat explosion, and 64 beat outro where the "mixing" happens. maybe a little variation on the number of beats. they need a little more originality to hold a candle to the sasha's, digweeds, craig richards, and tenaglias of the world. as for arguements??? you will soon see the light if you keep your ears to the ground

well...
sasha is good.... certainly no god...

I think that some persons deserve a higher rank than they have here (tiesto (!!), ferry corsten, mauro picotto)
and where is ARMIN VAN BUUREN??

(top 10 most UK or US, where are the Dutch?)

King

This list is probably made by someone from the ministry of sound......The first 20 are all with the ministry I think....except carl cox

Posted by Laun17 on Jan-17-2001 15:43:

Hello!

I agree with that list

Dude,
you must be on crack, Sasha & and the other dickhead are so boring, they different, that's all.... "formated music" is good. That's why more and more people are starting to go crazy about Tiesto in the US (at least whre I'm from). And what is all that beat shit you talk about. Just say that you like sasha, don't try show that he is the best, because he's not.... Sorry!

Notice:If this is a european list, why isn't there any Belgian dj????And don't tell me that they are not good enough to put a few on this list,'cause,it isn't
No they aren't soo bad, those are all the dj's that do the great stuff, like there is the trance-events,the loveparade, the real mega-discotheques,ok you are gonna tell me that YDR(Yves deruyter) has come to the loveparade a few times and illusion had a truck two years ago,but we have also great dj's in our clubs(that are not so big and famous )!!!

Posted by biznology on Jan-17-2001 16:28:

its a uk list largely, not european. who the fuck is armin van helden? yeah that guy is bigger than van buuren.(typed sarcastically) peez.

Posted by defeated on Jan-17-2001 17:26:

boring to the untrained ear. the changes are subtle, and have to be listen for not - just placed on a platter in front of you. they also play different kinds of music from trance to house to breaks to a mix of all three. how someone can listen to sasha's GU13 disc 2 and call it boring baffles me. if you mix and are really passionate about the music i promise you will soon see true quality and true creativeness and true music, not just easily appealing dance tracks with their o so catchy melodies 'cause they get old real quick

Not sure if you meant "who is Armand Van Helden" sarcastically as well, but he is one of the pioneers of american electronica, with the high point of his career probably being the remix he did of Tori Amos "Professional Widow". It kicked the song into charts everywhere. Other than that he's made "Phunk Phenomena" , "Which Doctor" and "Ultrafunkula" all of them is very, very funky. Lately he's made the "You don't know me" sweeter-than-sugar house-track that made him drop from my top ten of producers, and "Koochy" which is a rather fine track.

The thing is, this list (which I believe has been discussed here before?) is not top 100 trance DJs or house DJs or anything else but all of them at once. And thus it is really worthless. Likewise, there's no point in arguing whether a brick-layer or a carpenter build buildings the best way.

Finally, I agree that Armin Van Buuren doesn't deserve a place in the DJ top 100 (even if it was strictly trance): Although he is a very talented producer, his mixing skills are non-existing and his track-selection could be beaten by a hapless fellow pointing at random at his record collection. I build this opinion on his performance at Club Eau 6/1-2001. Please don't argue back that "Boundaries of Illusion" etc. is great albums, cause these mix-albums are done in a studio using Pro Tools (which removes the need for real-time DJ-skills) and the tracks are usually chosen by the record-company from a large list submitted by the author (in this case AvB). But if anyone can come up with a liveset from AvB that has great track selection and mixing, then I'll withdraw my herretical statements

Posted by biznology on Jan-17-2001 18:24:

i knew i shouldnt have typed anything. ughh...just cause you personally dislike AvB doesn't mean he shouldnt be on there. '...hapless fellow pointing at a record collection..."? are you kidding? you shouldn't make statements like that if you want to be taken seriously. my first post was dumb and sarcastic i honestly didn't expect to get a critique on it, cause like a lot of the other people here i don't know who most of these djs are. just think of how bad a set it would be if somebody just randomly picked records, honestly. there is NO way that AvB is that bad of a 'dj' cause then i would be a bigger dj than he is. (note: i am not a dj) and if the list "...is really worthless..." why bother saying that AvB doesn't deserve to be on it?
peace.

Posted by djelloun on Jan-17-2001 21:36:

AVB is good....

Yo Biznology, you are right !! Mr. Trancaholic shows really that he is someone who prefers House to Trance, his Posting shows that! AvB is one of the greatest Producers/DJ of our Time, without doubt. You can't tell us that Armin is a bad DJ Man, listen to his Live Set at Eau Club in 1999, that is really one of the best live Sets I ever heard from a Trance DJ. Boundaries of Imagination is for sure One of the Best Trance Albums ever made! Even when it is recorded in a Studio !! The Song Selection is so good, I could hear that CD again and again....Come on Trancaholic be realistic, hear Mix Number 9 to 10 on this CD, even when it was recorded with Technical Equipment and other Tools, this Mix is awesome and I really never heard a DJ (or very very seldom) that could conquer this Remix of both Tunes...!!! Please do not tell us that Armin van Buuren is a bad DJ and so on...I think everyone in this Trance Forum appreciates him and the work he does, watch out for Armin in the Next Years, I am sure that he will be one of the big Names ever in Trance History !!

Talking Chill out

Now i'm too lazy to go back to see who started this thread but whoever it was SHAME ON YOU you should have known better !!!! This was obvious to start a row where everyone comes on and types a half page fucking argument about they know best, yes it is British and obviously yes it is biased, but it's always about personal opinion and you could argue to the cows come home (and probably until they leave again!) about who should be there and who shouldn't. So chill out.
(p.s. what the hell is Dave pearse doing there ?)

haha.
shame on you, no arguing! hey check the first page i said something earlier, and then ironically started all this bullshit i.e. the 'discussion' with a stupid joke.
peace.

Smoking ..umm..something

You peepz are jokez!!! Seriously tho everyone has their own opinion right, u dun gotta agree but u gotta respect... There's quite a few djs that I respect that made the list and we all have to keep in mind that it's a list made up of many different peep'z opinion (well mostly uk but anywayz) just like we dun agree on stuff, the rest of the world doesn't either but I gotta say the list isn't thatttttttt off from what peepz feel (except BT djin.. that's even more jokes that he made the list)

latez...

Posted by trancaholic on Jan-18-2001 08:19:

Woaa..chill..
- biznology: I simply told you who Armand van Helden was (well, you did ask right),

- the rest who got offended: and then I claimed that Armin van Buuren didn't deserve to be in the top 100 trance-DJs. Granted, the last point might have come across using too creative phrases, but I still stand by it. Now, if we were talking about the top 100 trance *producers*, Armin van Buuren would easily be in the top 10, but that doesn't automatically make him a technically competent DJ, neither does the quality of "Boundaries.." (which, I agree, is a good mix-CD).

I don't like house more than trance, but generally listen to all kinds of electronica. Trance would still have to be my fave.

Posted by MenTall on Jan-18-2001 12:18:

Shame / Disagreement

Why does everybody keep calling Armin a trance producer? This guy is a genius, because he does not ONLY produce trance, or ONLY house, he does it all, with the same ease!!

I find it a bit disappointing that everybody forgets Armin's "Gimmick" projects for example, which, in my opinion, are almost as good as Armand's productions, at least the ones he made lately.

And I'll spare you my comment on this DJ chart (geeze, what were they thinking!!)

Posted by defeated on Jan-18-2001 21:55:

genius!?! i think you should learn about levels of production before busting out with that...

Posted by MenTall on Jan-19-2001 12:48:

Satan (eek!)

You have got to be kidding me m8... Armin is like 23 or sth, and already worldfamous for his productions. And unlike ppl like Armand, he produces in multiple styles AND knows how to spin the wheels (unlike Armand, no offense)
