my Pioneer HDJ-1000s finally broke :(

well i was in the middle of making my new demo mix which i haven't made for 5 months, and boom my right cup goes out.
nothing i do gets it back.
i took off the jack and put it in my computer. yup the right cup is definitely broken. piece of crap made in china.

well i guess i shouldn't have expected any quality from something that costs, ohhh, $150.

i'm gonna call pioneer tomorrow and bitch.

i treated these things like my own baby. (even better...would i polish a baby?)

sorry to hear that. I had weird experiences w/ a friend's pair of hdj1000s, everytime you walked on the carpet and generated static it would play through the main speakers. I've noticed that happen different times on different mixers, one vestax, one rane, and one numark. have you had the same problems?

Anyways, I hope pioneer will take care of that for you. Good luck!

that sux.. i acatully wanted to get myself one of those...

Posted by dknylady on May-18-2004 04:58:

the sound quality is the best i've heard, and the comfort is wonderful. i also love how they swivel.

i had never heard of this problem. true i did get them over a year ago when they were still fairly new though...

God i hope i don't end up having to pay another $150 for a pair. if i was smart i would have bought insurance for them.

Buy some Seinheisers to replace them.

Funny -- mine died last week the same way. I was practicing up for a show and one side just went. I ended up buying a new pair since I loved them so much. Sucks that they broke but the ear pads on the new ones are nice and soft... :-) I didnt realize they lose their softness over time.

Sennheiser hd-280 are some great sounding phones' Only bad thing: you look like lemon head with them on.

Posted by ESMdjm600 on May-18-2004 08:17:

arent the sennheisers more audiophile oriented as opposed to the hdj 1000s? and how long did u have ur hdjs before the ear popped?

Posted by ESMdjm600 on May-18-2004 08:29:

oh sorry u already answered my question, i gotta stop smokin

Posted by chesco on May-18-2004 09:04:

the exact same thing happened to mine.

the right ear just cut out and didn'y come back on. I sent them back and now have a new pair. This is my 4th pair of pioneers, all because they keep breaking, and the shop won't give me a refund as I've lost my receipt.

they are brilliant headphones tho.

what do you mean when you say the cup goes out? it breaks completely?

Posted by borron on May-18-2004 10:19:

Lady, you should get some european-made quality headphones.

Sennheiser HD 25 is the right choice.

the sound just stopped coming out of the right ear cup. It was like there was a loose connection somewhere.

DKNYlady,

I agree with borron. I recently purchased new Sennheiser HD25... man they are defenitely the best pair of headphones ive ever owned.

Keep in mind, that Im judging the Senns after owning sony MDR 7506, Technics RP-DJ1200 (black version), Sony MDRV700, and having the Pioneer HDJ-1000 (only for a couple of days before returning), but no including some other crappier ones in the past.

Since you have owned Pioneer HDJ-1000... ill give a quick comparison

Well first, let me mentioned I decided not to keep the HDJ-1000, because the stereo image was too heavy and it was nasty to mix with IMO, in addition to the actual hole in the earcups being way to small to get ambience when doing one ear monitoring. I also notice their construction reminded me much of the infamous MDRV700 from Sony, which as we all know, dont last too long.

Anyways, I can tell you from having the Sennheiser HD25, that they will blow the HDJ-1000 out of the water, in terms of sound quality. Besides that ... you ask... well sound quality is good, but what if i use em in a club or live party?.. tested and they work great. They are well balanced.
I was weary myself of how responsive the bass was going to be.. but the bass was as punchy as the MDRV700 from sony, but without muddying (if thats a word LOL) over other frequencies.

Totally agree bachatu. But that's not the point... I honestly would like to know if pioneer will replace your headphones.

i own both sony mdrv700 and hdj1000, and all i can say

mdrv700 > hdj1000

i have a stanton dj pro 2000s but i'm sure as hell saving for a hdj1000. Shame they're so fragile but i tried them on last week and damn, what a cristal clear sound compared to my stantons

Posted by dj_lucas_B on May-19-2004 10:20:

why do people keep comparing hdj100 and hd25s ?

I dont know about else where but hre in australia the hdj1000 cost about $240 thats what i paid, and the hd25s cost over $400 which is what they were at the same store.

So if you can afford nearly half a grand for hd25 then get them. if not the hdj1000 is a good alternative and nearly half the price

Posted by borron on May-19-2004 10:28:

That depends on the location. Actually in Europe the HD 25 are cheaper than the HDJ-1000 (although only by $10 or so).

I have them too (the stantons as per my pic actualy when I think about it), they ain't that bad soundwise do the the job. Plus importantly I don't recon on them breaking had them must be 3 years ripping them on and off my head in frantic (seriously, I beast these f*ckers) cue action and they've been good too me.

....still want the Sen 25's tho

Posted by DJ Kibon on May-20-2004 00:14:

I'm kind of suprised to see this about the Pioneers, a few people that bought them locally were generally trying to say that they are bulletproof, way better than the Sonys, will last forever, etc.

Personally, I really like my Sony 700s, that'll probably continue until they crack, which hopefully will be a long ways off...

Posted by displaced on May-20-2004 02:55:

a buddy of mine broke the plastic right above the left yoke. fortunately a bit of superglue put it *almost* back to original state... i'm kinda surprised that hdj-1000s are so fragile considering the $130-$150 price tag...

before i had those, i had a pair of discontinued technics that lasted me 7-8 years before it got stolen. i forget what model it was, but it was sure worth every penny of that 40 bucks i originally paid. i guess they don't make headphones like they used to...
