For all you Armin haters

all I can say is a giant mother f'ing STFU

He blew the roof off of avalon boston tonight. and it wasn't asot 151...damn near half of his trax were old school and id's. he is #1. tiesto is done at #1 this year. AvB #1 from henceforth. It was cool tho cuz I bought this shirt off ebay with a funky dude with headphones and it says "armind" and armin van buuren underneath. he pushed everyone else aside to sign my shirt and give me respect. I congratulated him on 150 asot's.

all I can say is wow. I feel like a million bucks. Time of my life.

Thank you armin, MUCH respect.

Can't wait for the next time your in Beantown.

Matthew

I don't "hate" the guy, infact I enjoy his sets, but it's just that he's over killing the same sound over and over. There's no variety in his sets whatsoever. Maybe we're all just spoiled from listening to ASOT weekly (which is why I've taken a break from it, plus I have no time) or maybe it really is his fault for not mixing things up a bit, who knows.

If he came here I'd no doubt see him though, I'm sure that's quite the experience.

armin is a really cool guy

Posted by Yan on May-29-2004 08:28:

Bah... What the hell is Armin's problem? He goes to Boston and plays a stellar set and yet he went to the greatest city in the world and he gave us shite?

Posted by Radagast on May-29-2004 09:01:

Haha yeah i'm sure he's a nice guy.

Posted by ziddy on May-29-2004 10:52:

Yeah, sure he's nice but a little more variation in his sets would make him a little more nice in my opinion

Posted by Az on May-29-2004 11:33:

wow, he played some old classics that were guarenteed to get a reaction, and some new tracks that noone knew
thats surely a hallmark of a great DJ
hats off to you sir, you've convinced me!

Posted by Mr.Mystery on May-29-2004 12:09:

Maybe you were just too mashed to realise he was playing the samey shite he always does, hence you didn't id them.

i thought his ASOTs are intended to show how new tunes would be heard in the mix.and to promote them.afkors you can listen to them also on online record shops, but the quallity there is very bad.

but isn't armin going into progressive waters more and more?or is that just my imagination.

Posted by Sjodalf on May-29-2004 12:27:

I don't understand all this complaining of variation in his sets. Looking at other fellow DJ's that
just play the same tunes and styles over and over.
I must say Armin is one of the few ones playing a lot of different stuff in his set considering he is a trance dj!!

just take a quick peek at some of his sets.. playing all from

Luke Chable, Ozgur Can, Klinkenberg, and over to Futureshock, Joop, and to 4 strings, A&B.
respect for also spinning progressive and even harder stuff as well for spinning melodic trance.
thumbs up!

-let the flameing begin-

im sure he played 90% of the same tracks just for the 2 hours so it was better then a 5 hour punishment.

exactly. armin for two hours might not be that bad because he is a fast food DJ, a McDJ. over two hours? simply unbearable.

Posted by Cobalt on May-29-2004 20:23:

Armin is a very nice guy. There's no debating that. It's part of why he's so popular.

But this unfortunately doesn't translate into better sets.

Different strokes for diff folks!!

He is still very uplifting, so of course the people who do not like that sound anymore will get bored of it.

The same reason why a lot of the people who still like that sound hate tiestos more darker/techno direction.

I say enjoy them both

me2... and u can get all the fluffy shit out of the way in the first hour of a tiesto set... making Armin completely un-necessary.

Posted by Stasis on May-29-2004 21:22:

This is kinda a silly discussion, but if you were at Avalon last night, then I think you'll know that he genuinely did play a fantastic set. Probably the best trance set I have ever heard since PvD played Avalon on Halloween 2002. Just go to the Avalon message board, and you'll find a dozen or so reviews from people who normally rank on trance djs all day, but who all gave shining reviews of last night.

I'm not trying to agree with Matt (dimethguy) on whether or not Armin van Buuren is the greatest dj in the world because last night's set was great ( I think that's silly, and it invariably leads to these pointless fanboy debates ), but plain and simple, Armin's set last night brought the normally ultra-cool Avalon crowd to a boil. Beautiful women were going crazy, ruining their perfect makeup and hair that they spent 6 hours on getting ready, stuck-up macho men in tight Armani tanktops were brought to tears, and even PvD showed up and was like, "Daaaaaamn". Oh alright, so maybe that didn't happen, but the set really did have the whole place bouncing. At one point the whole balcony was shaking from every single person up there jumping up and down. It was the kind of music that just naturally touched the right chord with everyone; the perfect mix of melodies, baselines, coolness, funness, and raw craziness.

I don't think his set at Avalon should be used to make any sweeping judgements of Armin, because I've seen him deliver completely medicre-to-poor sets at Roxy in NYC too. All I think you can learn from Armin last night at Avalon, is that Armin at Avalon is a great way to see him in top form.

And as I said in the NYC section already, if you missed the set last night, and you could have gone...................kill yourself. It was that good.

ps. Armin maybe played 10 minutes of uplifting, "fluffy" trance last night, the other 2+ hours were pure banging, nasty music.
