ah, good old Scottish fans. They can't qualify for anything to save their life, so they live their whole lives in squalor, only enjoying the moments when England lose. How pathetic.

shut up because you don't have a clue about anything that us scots go through when england are in major tournaments.

We accept that scotland is a shit sporting country (except for curling) but thats because we have a miniscule population compared to england and also because by the time the majority of children reach 13 in this country they are hardcore alcoholics and drug users. We have no decent sporting facilities, so it's little wonder we don't have a decent football team.

But if you watched the coverage of england games, on scottish tv then you would be as bitter as us.

Last nights game made me sick, especially when the english commentator on ITV called the english teams "the lions of lisbon". What a fuckin cheak, the greatest ever scottish football team in history and the first brittish team to win the european cup and this clive tildsley character just takes their name and plasters it all over england, as if the celtic team never beat inter milan in lisbon in 1967.

I don't mind the english team, in fact I quite like players like scholes, beckhame etc. but the way their media goes on and on and on and on and on about the team is enough to make any scotsman cringe.

end rant.

It's called an inferiority complex

I live less than 50 miles from Scotland so I'm used to this, but it doesn't affect everyone. When Scotland lost 6-0 a lot of them were suddenly claiming they didn't support their national team anyway.

Posted by Technaut on Jun-14-2004 10:33:

if the commentators didnt constantly bring up when england won the world cup and be so smarmy all the time id probably suport england when they are playing

we just dread england winning a big tourny cos quite frankly we'd never hear the fucking end of it on the telly. nightmare.

Posted by evil_bastard on Jun-14-2004 10:38:

That pisses me off as well but you know what the media are like. In the 94 World Cup we had all the media bullshit with Ireland but we still supported them.

I don't think Scots need to have any feelings for England, but it's the people who go out and buy France, Switzerland, Croatia shirts for one day, that's just sad. You have to admit there are people who do that.

It's nothing to do with inferiority complex.

If you know about the long history that the two countries share, then you know that for so long the english were complete ****s to the scottish.

What's that got to do with football??

There isn't a single scottish supporter was even alive during those periods so it sounds very much like taking credit for the suffering of other people. And Scotland isn't the only place to be victimised, much of England, Wales and Ireland too.

I have some English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish blood in me, just like many people all over Britain. Don't see what it has to do with football, or anything for that matter.

it has nothing to do with football, but it has everything to do with supporting your country.

You have to understand this is the way most scots still think. They still see England as the country who invaded scotland many hundreds of years ago, took our land, raped our woman and killed our men. Until Scots people forget their history (never gonna happen) then they won't support england at anything.

Posted by evil_bastard on Jun-14-2004 11:10:

I don't expect any Scots to support England, I rarely support Scotland. It's constantly supporting whatever team opposes England which is pathetic.

You don't go out and buy a Switzerland shirt because of the Jacobite rebellions, you do that because you have an inferiority complex, a chip on your shoulder.

Posted by chesco on Jun-14-2004 11:21:

I don't know any scots person who buys france strips etc. because they are playing against england.

If there are people that do so then I don't blame them because as I said before, we've had english success shoved down our throats for nearly 40 years, so it's always nice to see your commentators silenced.

I haven't seen it this year but certainly the 2002 World Cup there were plenty of people buying Nigeria shirts.

Posted by Technaut on Jun-14-2004 11:36:

tbf ive never seen anyone knocking about with a nigeria top on lol

Posted by evil_bastard on Jun-14-2004 11:39:

I vaguely remember the BBC did a report on the massive sale of Nigeria shirts/flags in Scotland ahead of that game. Not sure why Nigeria, Argentina were more likely to beat us. Think it was because if Nigeria won we wouldn't qualify.

Posted by Simcut on Jun-14-2004 14:11:

haha technaut :P cock

nah, to be fair, the banter is good, keep it up you scottish slag!!
