Sasha @ Sonar

Well, I walk in with my buddy around 9:30(after doing multiple circles around Sonar trying to find it =P) and Luke Fair just came on. He spins a great opener set. I really enjoyed it.

40 minutes after 11, Sasha appears looking high as a kite. I quickly move up front with Limin, Reuben, Dave, and my buddy(Sorin) so we can get a good view for his set.

Sasha bangs it out. Track after track was bangin. Loved every second. And suddenly, when everyone least expects it, he cuts it all out and plays a really chill track right in the middle to give everyone some breathing time, then, the track evolves into a harder track after a few minutes where he returns to his usual devices.

Sasha's set tended to stay toward the Progressive Trance genre, though a few of the tracks played could be argued otherwise.

I ended up having to leave at 1:40(thought it was 1:30, watch was wrong) because my friend Sorin had parked his car at my house 25 minutes away, and then from my house he had a 1.5 hour drive ahead of him =/. If it wasn't father's day, woulda stayed for the whole thing.


Basically, for what I saw, i really really enjoyed the set. Although short, and my first live sasha(and sonar) experience, i had a wonderful time. I am a huge sasha whore, but I can bash the people i like, and I can say there was nothing wrong with what this man did tonight. I loved it. And I hope everyone else did as well.

Rollcall for who I remember: Limin, Reuben, Dave, Erin, Joel, 2 of Limin's friend TAs, at least 1 more TA who I met at AMIT's house party which the name I unfortunately cannot remember =/.

Overall, had a great time, and hope to see Sasha drop by the DC area sometime soon. Next in my lineup is DIGWEED on 8-28 @ GLOW (if 18+).

EDIT: I cannot believe that retard THREW THE SHIRT AT SASHA, WHICH LANDED ALMOST ON THE DAMN TURNTABLES. Freakin moron.

EDIT 2: Found out Sasha was 40 minutes late because of traffic for driving down to baltimore from new york. In a limo of course, what else =P

well tonight fckin owned.
luke played a great warmup set and his last few tracks really set the mood.
sasha came on and for me he pretty much owned it. so happy to finally see him spin. and i got my CD and poster signed

nice to meet Reuben, ryan and his friend, seein limin again and finally meeting clyde you punk who got lost again ! nice poster btw

great night my ears haven't stopped ringing since kazell and sander K
two great nights and now i need some sleep.

The very last track was Matthew Dekay - Higher Thoughts....what a perfect way to end the night!

I hope someone can ID the track he dropped right before that... I'm thinking U.N.K.L.E - In A State (Sasha Remix) but I'm not sure

oooh i wish, but he didnt play that! and how awesome was sasha! he is SOOOOO much better without diggers. not to say digweed is bad, but their styles have definitely gone their own ways these days. sasha played some great shit, of course i can't ID 95% of it....but it was still an awesome night nonetheless. had a great time with all you guys!!!! joel, alli, dave, reuben, amanda, john, keith, clyde, ryan, duane, sid...etc etc!!! you guys are awesome!!! and dave i hope you are okay

I think I will break my silence to say
OMGGGGGGG SASHA OWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what a great fuckin night. HIs set was incredible from start to finish. So groovy and sexy.
Sasha started his set nearly an hour late and ended it 10 minutes early, but honestly, I didn't care. Because it's Sasha, and when you are that good you can do whatever you want. He IS the Mick Jagger of EDM. lol
He is definatley the king of divas: Did anyone get a load of his little bitch who ran in 30 mins before he got there to make sure everything was setup and just perfect for Sasha? He had the Sonar staff go up on a ladder and turn off all the lights pointing on the DJ booth (prolly cause Sasha was FAWKED out of his skull) lolol

I gotta find out the name of that one track he played that Sander also played on Friday. Sander wasn't his best at Cubik -- his previous set at Sonar was much much better. Kazell was great though, spinning some wicked tribal.

It's great that Sonar opened up the new space, but they need to install some damn air-conditioning in there. Also, at some points, the aucoustics of the garage reminded me of Insomnia...oh well. None the less I had a fantastic time.

i posted this in another thread last night:

he was fucken mint tonight. people were on their feet taking it all in the entire night. the sweet "ring" in my ears is bliss, (and i guess a sign i might go deaf, hehe, oh well)

clyde, sorry for scaring you! haha...it was so loud in there it was no wonder it took you a while to realize who i was. anyway man, did you get your stuff signed...nice poster by the way, got the crowd bumping...

btw who was that dumbass that threw a shirt on his decks?!?!?! wtf?! SASHA was PISSED as he had a record cued up and everything. Was it just me or did he throw the finger at them? I know he gave the guy/girl some really NASTY looks for a good 2-3 minutes. I would have thrown the record at them btw. What a dick move, whoever it was.

Sasha threw down a great set last night, however I was hoping for Wavy Gravy at the end. Oh well. I thought Luke Fair's set was pretty sick as well, especially the tracks he threw down right b4 Sasha came on. Being my first time at a Baltimore club, I was very impressed with Sonar itself and the crowd. Everyone very friendly and into the music. Of course it wasn't NYC, but in my opinion, it blew away any experience I ever had in Philly!!!!! I was also excited to find out the Starscape lineup....looks pretty solid. Went in 2002 but missed last year. Overall great night, can't wait for PVD.

It was definitely the Original Mix - the Steve Porter Remix is much more breaks-ish

I just got home... he definitely banged it out just about the whole nite. Luke Fair did a nice job as well. The sound in that new room was horrible though.... no rear speakers made it echo. It reminded me of the old days of warehouse raves... I thought I was in the movie Groove for a second ha! I guess it helped thought create a nice vibe in there. Great nite and after party...

wohoooooooooooooooooo!!!! omfg, i had so much fun...sasha tore that shit up...my friend willy even said so. it was his first club experience and he cant wait for tiesto this friday!!!! (hoping to bring more friends with us). luke fair threw 2 break beat tunes that i realy loved, unfortunately i dotn know them. it was aprety nice warm up. when sasha took over, ppl went nuts, everyone was yellin his name. it was fckin awesome, i couldnt beleive he was infront of me..! prety much the whole night i was dancing my ass off. i got my painting signed. when he went to thebathroom. i waited at the door and when he came out i handed him a marker and made him signed the painting. he said it was realy nice and he smiled. i was sooo happy . then i went in the crowd and showed everybody haha

anyway. it was nice meeting all of u , cryo, andrew, beema, joel, erin, her friend, limin li and mike! hope to see you all again at nation for tiesto. def was an unforgetable night.

Beema, the track both Sander and Sasha played was... Spektrum - Kinda New (Tiefschwarz Dub).. It's in Sasha and Digweed's latest essential mix..

Sasha was just amazing last night. Totally on the whole time he was there. It was short, yeah, but when you're throwing stuff like that down it doesn't matter. He was playing songs with just awesome basslines and incredible breaks all night long. Couldn't stop dancing. I'm loving his new style. He's moved away from that lame digweed prog stuff and is just laying down incredibly danceable music.

I loved the venue too. Sure, the sound was shit but the atmosphere was pretty awesome. The whole warehouse thing was pretty sweet and the floor was really danceable.
