Question Are you going to vote?

All this political talk and no one has asked the most basic and important...

Are you going to?
Why / Why not?

I am and just had myself enumerated today because I just recently moved.

Thumbs down

For those of you who are qualified to vote (Canadian Citizen, etc) but are NOT VOTING:

YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!

I am very disappointed in you.

Posted by TrueToTheCrew on Jun-21-2004 03:27:

Its your civic duty to vote.
You live the way you live because of democracy.

No excuses.

i'm voting...i want a liberal minority with an ndp opposition...conservatives will fuck us over...everyone get off your fuckin ass and vote...i can't believe how many discrases there are in this country where you'd have 40% of ppl not voting?? like honestly, what the hell? and then look at the results of this poll all ready? of course none of those ppl responded, cause they'll get flamed

Posted by malek on Jun-21-2004 03:38:

exactly ...i'd appreciate ppl to be aware of the issues in each party...but at least get out and vote...the gap of non voters makes such a huge differnce...i think voting should be madatory like doing taxes...its your freakin lives these ppl will have control over, so why wouldn't you want your input...ppl that live in facist unjustful goverments, would do anything to have a say about the ppl that run there country...don't give up your right!!!

Posted by Spyder on Jun-21-2004 03:51:

i want to but im having abitch of a time figureing out how to do it seeing as i'm not in my residential area...

Posted by MarkT on Jun-21-2004 03:55:

Absolutely...and I'm reminding and harassing EVERYONE I know to get out and vote too...I'm hoping there are enough good, but lazy, people out there who normally don't bother. I'm hoping that while Liberals don't inspire them, they find Harper so unacceptable that they'll vote just to help keep him out of office.

That would be ideal. With no doubt in my mind, I will be voting Liberal again...Martin, for me, is *clearly* the most capable leader on the ballot and I'd like Layton to have a more active and influential role.

Posted by psychosomatica on Jun-21-2004 03:58:

wow. I thought i was a part of a greater minority... seems like the non-voters are quite a few on this board. Even if this board DOES have a higher voter ratio than the national average.. i thought you guys were more politically active..

Posted by Slag on Jun-21-2004 04:30:

If you don't vote, don't bitch about policy later.

Posted by psychosomatica on Jun-21-2004 06:33:

What if I dont like the policy of any of the choices offered to me? And so choose to abstain from voting? You can't just dismiss non-voters as ill informed people who bitch about policy when they havent made a choice.

Not voting is a slap in the face of every single veteran that served and/or died for fredom in our country. I wish you people who are not voting could look a vet in the face and tell him why you arent voting.

People all over the world AT THIS VERY MOMENT are dying in a struggle to get what many of us take for granted. That is, the right to vote. Remember that.

You CAN make a political statement by not voting. If you dont like any of the candidates, go to your assigned poll and ask for the ballot and have your name crossed off the listt as usual. Then inform them that you are declining your ballot. The declined ballot will then be recorded as "DECLINED" and you have just essentially voted for "None of the above" since that vote also gets officially recorded.

This method is much better than sitting back and not doing ANYTHING at all.

Thats a lame excuse man, of course there's no perfect party (or else we would be under the control of the mostachio guy looking at you on every street corner), so just pick the one that's closest to your ideals and vote!

haha this has me in stitches

PEOPLE, your vote means NOTHING!

Posted by Fir3start3r on Jun-21-2004 13:11:

For those of you who, "Don't know who to vote for" and, "Not sure where to vote in my area" go here:

http://www.elections.ca

There lots of information about everything you wanted to know.

Do yourself a favour, get informed and get involved.
Don't take your right to vote for granted just because of ignorance or apathy.
You now have no excuse...

Posted by DeE420 on Jun-21-2004 15:30:

If you dont want to vote because you disagree with all of the party's, just go in and spoil your vote, instead of just sitting on your ass and not doing anything. You can go in, and turn in a blank vote. It's making a statement and they DO count the spoiled votes.

Ditto. And for those of you that aren't going to vote because you don't agree with the policies of all the parties, what kind of excuse is that? Ever party must have at least a few policies that you might agree with. So pick the party you feel is least likely to screw you over and cast your vote for them. Turning in a blank ballot is like saying you don't care and you don't want to make a difference.

Posted by DJ Ski on Jun-21-2004 17:10:

Just get out there and vote. If you are going to be away on the 28th, vote today in the advance poll. I voted on saturday because I'm going to partying at my cottage on election day.

A spoiled vote is different from an abstained vote. If you feel that you don't like any of the choices, simply hand in your ballot unmarked. If you however spoil it in another manner (marking more than one choice, etc.) it will NOT be counted as an abstained mark.

If you SPOIL your vote you just go on the record as being an idiot who doesnt know how to mark a ballot. by DECLINING your vote as i outlined above, it goes on record as being a concious decision.

There are 2 different lists kept for spoiled and declined ballots.

Posted by Dmatrox on Jun-21-2004 22:14:

if you dont really wanna vote, just mark the green party, cuz they aint gonna win anyways

when i voted it was only 4 parties i could vote for.

if you wanna spoil you ballot do it the australian way. Put a number beside each candidate ranking with priority which candidate you want 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th
