Questions On Computer Production
Im hoping this is the right forum for this question. I am going to production school in July and I need to get a personal computer. I know you should go with Apple but does anyone have specific models they use or know which is the best for production and home use? Thanks for the help.
Why is it, exactly, that one "should go with Apple"?
They are the best for audio/video editing. Wish I had one
someone really should explain me WHY they are better.. i know macs used to have better soundcards then pc but thats well equal now.. pcs have fairly enough gigahurtz now so.. talk to me
for a benchmark "duel" between Mac and PC... Though it is a graphic benchmark test it gives a good view what the computers are capable as graphic editing and rendering uses as much CPU (and other resources) as producing.
But after all performance wise there is very little difference between the two. The things you need to look at are the way you work and the way you feel.
Stability is the key, andyways, u cant deny the fact that MAC IS better in terms of producing..! and u dont have to worry about viruses..!
>> and u dont have to worry about viruses..!
So true .... I can mind hearing that the CIA once stated 'if you do not want your computer to be hacked then get a Mac'
But the only reason I would get a Mac is so I could run Logic Audio 6 on it, but Cubase SX is just as good sooooo .... *waves ass at Apple and Emagic*
The only reason for Windows (PC) getting most of the viruses is the reason that it is so popular.
For example there haven't really been any viruses for Linux or Unix systems even though some of them run on PC. Creating a virus for Linux system isn't really worth the effort cause it wont really do much damage cause there just isn't so many linux boxes on the net than Windows'. Same goes for Macs.
I run a pc with floops n reason, i hate cubase, it pisses me off n if i had the money id get a mac running logic. It kicks ass over cubase. Thats all my opinion by the way, its up to personally taste. The freeze function fuckin rules in logic tho.
it's faster with video.. big frikken deal..
I work with all .wav files when producing so I can have a full song and be at only 50% CPU load (with all FX on)
you can't build your own MAC so they cost twice the price and getting software for them and gaming is a bitch.. not to meantion having to get used to a completly new OS..
I've used the newest MACs at school.. they're nothing great.. the end result still sounds the same..
this is my 1000th post.. yay!! *throws a party*
were's our beer damnit!
congratz
just found out i passed that mark last week orso.. feck..
/me hands everyone a beer (don't tell in chill out)

just get someone to help you with that and let ppl on the intarwebb check your orderlist
that is the biggest load of bullshit ive EVER heard. (regarding to that G4 vs. top of the line PC). Thats completely outdated, and if they ran a G5 with dual 2.5 gig processors it would run LOOPS around a PC.
My production partner uses a G5 with dual 2.0 gigahertz processors and can rewire reason into protools...running about 30ish instruments in reason, about 10ish effects processors, all eqed in protools etc. Computer doesnt even THINK about breaking a sweat.
Hands fucking down, get a G5.
You can't really compare G5 to P4 or AMD's 32bit cpus.. Since G5 is the 64bit you need to compare it with opteron or Athlon 64. I'm pretty sure those are worthy opponent to G5.
Before even asking which kind of Mac to get, make absolutely positively sure that the programs you're gonna get will work for it. Don't think that you can just get the fastest comp with a huge load of ram and be done with it. Some people will waste money doing something like this (like buying a brand new car, with the wrong keys, and no way to get the right ones). You should buy the software first, find out what systems support it, then look for a comp. Macs are great for editing, but the really, really powerful ones cost too much. You should build a powerful custom PC (w/warranty of course) and get one of the more popular sequencers out now, like CUBASE or SONAR or even FL Studio.

here we go ... my mate is still running his studio with an Atari ... he says thats the best ... lol
In my school i use g4's and it crashes all the time. Using Logic, i forget what version but i find it completely unstable. Gayest thing about macs' is there is no eject button for anything lol.
Go Pc, fast cpu, tons of ram few HD's and ur set. I prefer Cubase
I believe MACs to be better computers too. They seem more stable. (hardware-wise)
I heard that most of the professional studio recording software was developed on MAC OS 9.x , then ported to Windoze.
I would think that MACs running 9.x would run extremely better than a windoze box running the same software.
Windoze sux.
