Do you prefer enjoying the tracks as standalone or in a mix or session?
Sometimes I discover great tracks when listening sessions. So was when playing the great Scott Bond's Ahead, the last A&B 6/6/4 Essential, the Balances 00x and all of these I could be writing for very long.
But when getting the single songs alone, as a maxi, or in some MP3 release, for listening (for dj'ing this is not applicable), I note that I don't enjoy them as when hearing them in the session...
Someone feel it similar?
(And sorry for my english)
i remember reading an interview w/ Armin and he said something like,
dance music is suppose to be listened to mixed... not single 1... pause single 2 pause... it is all suppose to flow together, that is what makes a good DJ.
mixes are the way to go, one superb tune mixed into the next
on armins ASOT 2004 Cd 1 , Whirlpool - Under The Sun is mixed into Solid Globe - Sahara and its simply awesome, its all about the feeling
You lose alot of energy and dissocaition when a track ends, when your hearing a set the effects of one song might linger longer if you can keep things going smoothly. If I was looking for a good time id say i hope its all mixed together.
But if I was in my car driving around with a cd in ...
i def prefer in a mix ... just how the dj brings in the track is always interesting to me...

Def mixed , standalone track just don't seem to have that energy in them as when they are mixed together with other tracks
I prefer mixed cause the pitch is usually higher.
mixed is best for me.
I'm listening to trance almos all day, so its more about the whole feeling of the set and the mixes rather than just the song itself.
But, we have to think that without the standalone tracks the sets would not be possible. So one complements the other.
I concider trance to be more like a clasical symphony, playing many different tracks one following the other to come up with one big musical piece: a set. Many sets have intros and outros so it sometimes (when stoned) i get the impression of a complete set being just one song!
I often find good tracks in sets, but I listen to standalone mostly. Every set is made of standalone tracks, and it extreamly rare there are more than 50% of good tracks in a set. Usually one or two tracks.
I prefer listening to single songs compared to livesets. For one, I like hearing the whole song and not just the part that the DJ decided to mix in, and for two, the sound quality of livesets tends to be questionable. Of course, if it's a mix CD the second one doesn't apply, and I do enjoy mix CDs in addition to standalone tracks.
Livesets. The tracks have so much energy. For example Flight 643; alone, it's not too great. Mixed in at just the right moment, it's full of energy.
I certainly prefer livesets and mixes more than singles. I love how one song flows into the other and you can just listen to it for hours on end.
livesets all the way, more energy. singles r nice to have but i'll always listen to livesets in the car/working out/blading. singles maybe on my pc when its in shuffle mode.
livesets all the way for sure
love the feeling you can get even if you aren't even there live
Usually when i'm doing something with my comp i listen to some sets.. Only when i'm checking out how tracks sound i listen to them separately.. It's just too boring to listen to 8-9 minutes long tracks otherwise..
Typically live sets or mix albums. If I hear a really great track on the live set I'll go try and find the single so I have it, but typically just listen to sets. What I like best is how the tracks are mixed as well as how a selection of tracks are used together to create an overall mood for the set. You just don't get that listening to a bunch of singles.
It's gotta be mixed. That's what our music was made for so we should enjoy it the way it was meant to be enjoyed!
this would be why I only play SETS not single tracks
everybody knows all EDM was made to be heard mixed together, not just individual songs like crappy mainstream music
mixes.
no preference for me.
obviously though, when mixed properly, a track gains energy from a set...
sets are better. but occasionally when i find tunes that i really love. i decide to listen to the standalone track to get the entire feel of it
Livesets, you get to hear how a DJ actually plays to a crowd without having the studio to make things perfect.
I prefer mixed. I agree that when tracks are mixed it brings so much nrg to the songs.

Both. Tunes can work amazingly in sets but I always love to have the full length standalones of tracks I love, so I can hear them whenever I want without having to skip through a set.
