Arrow Review: Ultra Spin 6.0@ THE GUVERNMENT

Great Vibe in both rooms..Fanastic Thirst Set up (mind you I don't like green!LOL!)....Amazing Opening Set By Mark Oliver once again!

But THE SCUMFROG stole this night away for me..So much Energy was put to his set and his interaction from the booth with the crowd was pretty fun to watch.

pics are on their way!

Highlight of the night for me was definatley hearing Pete Tong speak. Finally get to hear the voice live

Posted by djbruuen on Aug-08-2004 16:40:

what an amazing nite!!!...we absolutely loved ultra spin 5, and last nite had some ferce competition over which one we liked better, both nites were absolutely amazing... as usual, we entered through the drink, some great music being played on the skybar, then eventually made our way to kool haus. I LOVED the setup of koolhaus last nite, a lot more so then two weeks ago, just because it was so much more open! and it was cool how they set it up like it was a concert.

who was in kool haus around 130-3ish??? whoever that was, they played some really good tunes, and i was just dancing my ass off, great vibe, and of course the crowd was perfect capacity it was full, but never had a problem with ppl bumping into you and always plenty of room to dance.

Scumfrog was so cool, his set was full of energy, and like mentioned, his interaction with the crowd was really cool! the drum pad was also something good to see, something different then just the typical dj behind the decks.

we stayed until 5am and had absolutely no complaints on the nite, everything was perfect the whole way through...we didn't bother dancing in the main room til about 3am, just because of the packed crowd.

anyways, i don't think i'll ever miss an ultra spin event again in my life!!! they're so much fun, i llove being able to go to koolhaus, that makes all the difference!!!

hope everyone else that went had as good a time as i did

I guess that would have been Danny Howells in KH from around that time.

Posted by bluE_Neon on Aug-08-2004 17:07:

We need Danny H for a lot more longer set!

Posted by Vogon on Aug-08-2004 17:35:

Mark O was great opening. Spend the rest of the night in the Kool House. Wow, not too crowded, not stupid hot, great sets by Danny Howells and Pete Tong. Crowd was in good spirits, and Mark O had a great closing set. Pete Tong was great to hear in person. Definately will catch Pete Tong again.

Posted by Sly_Guy on Aug-08-2004 17:54:

I actually made it. It almost cost me 7 demerit points and a $450 speeding ticket, but I made it. The Scumfrog was Awesome, lotta tech, tribal, good hard pounding stuff, but it's a shame that a DJ that animated was put in the guvernment main room. There's only so much he can interact with the crowd from that location. Anyway, excellent night, not overcrowded, at least for most of the night I could find a place to dance, which seemed to be the first time in a long time.

Posted by Funkyfun on Aug-08-2004 18:33:

Awesome event....Mark throwed down a great opening set and set up the nite perfectly...then it was Scumfrogs turn to cause some more damage...easily one of his best sets I have heard to date...Interaction with the crowd was great as usual....song of the night for me was 'Amen'....was very nice seeing him use the drum pad and the microphone to such good effect which added alot more to the experience..all in all a great night out

THE SCUMFROG!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by tomeboy on Aug-08-2004 18:45:

Damn..... I wish I came out for this one, scumfrog kicks ass. Cant wait to see some pics.

Posted by UWO Tranceaddict on Aug-08-2004 19:03:

Well Pete Tong played Deep Dish - Flashdance and that was good enough for the entire night.

Posted by Chinaman on Aug-08-2004 19:12:

Well, well, well

Ultra Spin 6 was pretty good. I'm still bitter I wasn't able to hear Pete Tong on the PA Oh well, Scumfrog threw down a good set, gotta love his own percussion and vocals too!

I'm really surprised how empty the KH was too. It's great that there was space and all but wow, it didn't seem that busy... On the other hand, the Guv and patio were porno-packed beyond belief in the beginning?

It was great to see the TA presence, special thanks to John, Behzad and most of all, Erika for the awesome hugs !!!

...I think I need to take a break from partying now

A great night out!
Just what the doctor ordered. Went in thru KH- stayed there till about 3am. It was a night full of pleasant surprises- just when I thought i had seen everyone i knew, there would be yet another partier i had not seen in a while. It was great to see all the fimiliar faces. But you see... something was missing- that was my ability to be one with the beat- to my brain on autopilot and just dance like crazee. Howells was ok and at times very good- but i was missing the consistency in making me want dance hard. Then I tried to find the same in Pete Tong- but alas. While both are great DJs and it was good to hear them spin - I needed to dance and dance hard. My quest for the beat led me to venture into Guv. by myself, ditching the security net that my friends offered in KH. Of course, no night at Guvernment complex is complete until you venture through the Orange Room. Yikes!! So i get into Guv. and after a bit of crowd management- i finally settled down to get my workout at Guv. Scumfrog was just what i needed. The basslines were------- absolutely downright dirty. Fawk!!!! I havent danced that hard in sooooo long. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. Lets just say it took all of 15minutes for my missing smile to return. Then I see FloorWhore & Tyson- together we tore up the dance floor. Eventually Tordan joins us- by this time I couldnt hug anyone cos i was sweating buckets and my top just clung to me. It just got progressively dark and funky and at last! Ah i was one with the beat. I danced with a number of people i didnt know and the energy was quite positive- we were all one happy family all in a trance, dancing feverishly. Bravo Scumfrog!! a job well done indeed- i stayed right till the end when he made a very smooth exit indeed!

And all the party children went home happy!!!

Well, I finally got to see the Frog.

It was a great party! I spent most of the night dancing with Nathalie on the stage until she ran off to the booth for the rest of the night. Scumfrog was laying out some really dirty beats, and had some interesting quirks to his set like voice overs and digital drums. It's original things like this that make a deejay really enjoyable to see.

I saw a few TAs which I hadn't seen in a while, so it was a great night in that sense too.

Definately the highlight of the night was seeing Erika out again. We missed you!

Another great weekend.

See you all next week!

are you serious??? damn, you just must not have been hitting the clubs much in the past month or so. i have consistantly heard that song played many times...its crazy...two weeks ago on sky bar it was played, last nite on sky bar it was played, then i went down to the drink, and the dj in there played it, friday nite at the docks it was played...then i heard pete played it...i like the song, but wow, its been like the next darude - sandstorm the way the djs have been playing it lol

Getting to hear Pete Tong MC = definitely the highlight of the night.

I went in with low expectations but I actually had a lot of fun for the time that I stayed (mostly in the Kool Haus, Guv was porno-packed with the usual suspects so I didn't stay for long). Mind you the main room wasn't anywhere near as ridiculous as it was at Sasha so I give the management some credit for that, but I still found the pre-Frog vibe pretty uncomfortable, so I stayed away. I didn't find the Koolhaus "empty" at all, it just wasn't anywhere near as rammed as the main room. 10-20% more people might still have been comfortable but that size is pretty much perfect if you ask me.

And besides, regardless of the head count, the vibe was crazy in there (at least during Howells it was). I actually saw 50 people or so all form a circle and people were break dancing (or just dancing) - which I thought was a fuckin' awesome change of pace from the usual "guys bobbing their heads doing not much of anything except occasionally stopping to hit on a chick". Some people wrinkled their noses when I told them about the circle - but who cares if it reminds you of a mainstream club, I rarely see that kind of hype and togetherness at an afterhours club and it totally had everyone going. The "jumbotron" was pretty cool too, apparently I was on it at one point but I never noticed - must have been a good laugh for the crowd knowing how spastic I am on the dance floor. For those who did not bother to visit the Koolhaus from around 1 to 3 am, you really missed out on a lot (by which I am not referring to the preceding sentence).

I got to see the Scumfrog doing some cool stuff afterwards, like someone mentioned the digital drums and voice overs - the beats he was dropping weren't really what I was expecting to hear from him, not my cup of tea, but I'm happy to hear that everyone who spent that part of the night in the Guv had an awesome time.

Edit: oh yeah, I almost forgot, sound in the KH was PERFECT!!

Now, it's time for my break...

DAMN!! I had to fall sick at the wrong time!!!
Oh well..good to hear everyone had a good time..

Had a great time last night. I really liked the setup in KH and the sound levels were just right. Howells & Tong had me moving in KH the entire time. Plenty of room to dance, I was lovin it. The thirst finalist came on after Pete Tong and he laid down a good hard-trance set. I was quite pleased with his set.

Moved over to the guv main room after that and joined the TAs up on the stage. Scumfrog was playing an awesome set. He had everyone dancing their butts off including myself. Loved his energy and crowd interaction, and those electronic drums. Stayed until the very end. Very enjoyable night indeed. Nice seeing all the regulars out.

So good to be home...

Well, it's been over 3 months since I've been to Guvvie and it was good to be back on the dance floor again!!! Tunes were always rockin' throughout the night, in both rooms, although there was much more room to dance in Kool Haus, as per usual. Once again, Scumfrog was awesome, as was Danny Howells... Hmm, tasty...

I'll keep this short n' sweet, as I am still lacking in sleep, but the main thing I want to say is that it was awesome to see everyone again - it's nice to go off and have many adventures but getting hugs all night from a fantastic group of people that you know and love... that's EXACTLY what I needed and it meant the world to me so thanks to all of you who made my night wonderful! Charmscars, Ezekiel, Chinaman, Highroller, Floorwhore, Time2burn, Brian (can't remember your TA name!), Avikonen, Stereoprincess, Gamma - thanks for your company on the stage in the latter part of the night - SO much fun! And it was good to see a whole other wack of TAs too throughout the night and I won't try and mention you all for fear of forgetting anyone!

It's good to be home and you were all sorely missed...

Entered the Kool Haus around 3:00 to see Pete Tong (i believe just getting on the decks), and find out Danny Howells came on early. I was pissed. So went to the Guv, mega packed at this point, and very hot. I was expecting it, so i aint gonna start bitchin. Hung out on the stage with various TA's (the regulars), special mention must go out to my girls Erika and Tara. You ladies are scrumptious. Had a nice chat with those who were on stage, and proceeded to the Kool Haus again to kool off and achieve some space on the dancefloor.

Pete Tong is playing some GREAT tracks as we enter and the place is going completely off. Then comes the mix - Ba duh, ba duh, ba duh (trainwreck). Ouch. Ok, so ill give him the benefit of the doubt - one bad mix right?? Next track comes on - WICKEDDDDDD TRACK. Then the mix - Ba duh duh, ba duh duh. Oh man that is rough. This guy wouldve been better off throwing a 5 disc changer on the stage and hitting random. Great tracks, ill give him that. But holy fuck. Back to mixing school Petey. Please. No flow what so ever either. At one point he went from an Electro track, to trance, then to techno, then prog. Huh? So back to the Guv.

Scumfrog was KILLING IT at this point. Digital drummy layering, the voice-overs, and his overall presence was felt througout the room. Hes more like a rock star than a dj, just total vibe when he goes off. From 6:00am til close (7:15), he played his best shit. Completely dirty and dark. The place went off when he dropped that track (Nat- please ID) with the vocals "Were gonna be so HIGHHHHHHH" (or something like that). He played it at Boa last time as well. Track of the night though - was the one he played just before that rock track he closed with. Ive heard it before, almost a Mauro Picotto/ Sven Vath sound. Jesus. The place was jumping like they all had fresh legs and it was 7am. Great set by the Frog. Blew my mind once again.
