Persian, Arab... etc. what's the distinction?
and what is the definition of each - what makes an Arab different from a Persian (if there is a difference) ?
Also,... Middle East and North Africa are areas where nations/countries' people are mainly Muslim in religion. How does Arabic (spoken/written) differ among those people... And how many different sub-relitions exist (if i may so call them) of the Muslim religion? Anybody shine some light on my few questions here?

There are no "official" definitions of any race or ethnicity. What it basically boils down to is that you are whatever you "consider yourself to be." There isn't any objective basis for the classifications, so there isn't any basis for disputing it.

let me make a few more points.
Persians speak Farsi, Arabs speak Arabic. Farsi is a mixture of ancient Greek, Phoenenian and Arabic words.
Persians have different yet similar food music and culture.
Actually... our food is alot different from that of the Arabs.
Armenians are right in between Turkey and IRan and they too have a totally different language, food and religion.

Catherine Bell (the female lawyer in JAG) is also Persian. (Bell is her stage name). Mmmm....
In my own experiences, the word "Persian" is used to refer to those who left Iran before the revolution, or to those who remain in Iran and consider themselves revolutionaries. Iranians are Persians, but those who call themselves Persian first tend to do so because they'd rather identify with the culture than with the state.
Also, as others have mentioned, they don't speak Arabic. They speak Farsi. It's a really interesting language, as it's written like Arabic, but its sentence structure is more like European languages. I tried to learn a bit so that I could pick up some conversation with my distant relatives, and it wasn't too bad as long as you stay to the spoken form.
As for looks, I think Persians in general are a bit more fair skinned than Arabs. I am able to tell the difference most of the time, but there are just some certain features that tend to come from the Persian bloodline that you get used to seeing after a while.
i'm liking this thread MORE and MORE and to top it all off, i think one of few positive and civil threads - hope keeps this way. thanks to all for your input.

Do you guys know who else was persian??? FREDDY MERCURY of Queen!!!!!!!
His first name was Farokh..but his classmates couldnt pronounce it so they called him "freddy" and it stuck through his life.

Christiane Amanpour is another CNN journalist. But she's not hot like Bakhtiar.

well i am from egypt which is north africa...mostly a muslim country but i am roman catholic haha..arabic is different from farsi though i can catch a word here and there..arabs r fairly darker than persians...and persian chicks r hotter..we r very close in culture though...oh and lebanese chicks r the hottest anywhere..

I'm from Syria, majorly muslim, but I'm Christian Orthodox. My skin is pale(er) and people think i'm either Italian(95%) or Greek (4%). I speak arabic and my father speaks Syriac too. One of my grand parents is Armenian.
Syrian women are the hottest
Lebanon is muslim 50% - 50% christians
