Question Say that a dog attacks you.

Do you think you'd be able to win the fight (and survive, this dog is hell-bent on making tasty ribbons of you) with your bare hands, if the owner doesn't try to help?

Or, say that you have a pen in your pocket - would that make any difference?

Edit: The dog can be of any size.

depends largely on the kind of dog and its physical condition
the only thing i can think of thats swaying my opinion was the fight in the princess bride of westley against the rodent of unusual size
and then he won, but only because the random fire coming out of the ground
with your average retriever?
i'd say if you fight smart and keep calm (don't panic) then you'd stand a good chance

A dog can be a powerful and dangerous adversary. However, a human being should be in no serious danger as long as he or she does not panic. In a worst case scenario you can feed one arm to the dog by allowing it to bite down on the side of one arm (not the front and back, then it could puncture a major artery). Once the dog has a grip, it will usually not let go. In this position, you can use your other arm to go for the eye gouge which is almost certain victory as it will have no way to defend itself without releasing your arm (and it won't until it's too late).

If you don't want to be significantly injured, you must avoid being taken down by the dog if at all possible. This will be difficult if the dog is large for small or out of shape people, particularly women. Even a relatively small dog can take you down fairly reliably however if you let it get a grip on a leg. Larger dogs, especially aggressive breeds are likely to jump for your throat: if you react quickly and raise a knee this will be no threat - and if you can strike it in the larynx with your knee it will usually run away.

IMO the best strategy is to keep your moving like a boxer but instead of using your fists you use swift kicks to the head or the side of the dog's leg (if it is tall enough). Dogs are usually muscular in the neck, head, and torso, but their legs are injured easily. Try to take advantage of their weakness. A couple of strong kicks to the head will deter most dogs: just make sure to pull your foot back quickly so it cannot bite your ankle.

I've been attacked by a dog on two occasions, in both the dog jumped their owners' fences to attack me while I was jogging at night. By remaining calm and using my ability to attack from a small distance I was able to force both into retreat without sustaining even minor injuries. I do not believe a lone dog could ever pose a serious threat to me unless it caught me by surprise.

Lastly, a pen would only be useful if you were taken down. Again, you could give it one arm and stabbing the pen into an eye, nose, ear, or throat. Any of these would be painful enough to the dog that it would probably run away.

The best way to be safe is to be prepared. After reading this post you should have all the tools you need to survive a dog attack.

Hmm, that certainly was interesting to read! If life was an RPG, I'd see the trxt "Cinos has gained X experience" right now.

imo any kind of dog would be no match for a swift size ten right in the jaw.

Yes, move like a boxer but use your feet instead of your fists. In somewhat of a kickboxer like fashion.

Also remember that whilst cruelty to loving dogs is bad, but kicking cats over goalposts should commonly be accepted and more fun

Just kick it in the nuts.

Hmmm, once saw a guy get attacked by a pitbull. He hit is 3 times on the head (at full power) with an iron bar. He never seemed to feel it. He was forced to climb up his car to be safe. When a cop arrived he shot it straight in the chest. The dog kept on rampaging for like 5 more minutes untill the cop fired 2 more shots in its head. (it still walked around for 5 minutes untill it dropped dead).

I'd say your swift size ten sucks

I'd say your story sucks and sounds like a load of shite.

Actually that stories true,or atleast i heard one similar to it on tv.2 pitbulls went berserk and attacked about 5 people, one guy beat the shit out of one of them with a crowbar but the dog didn't even flinch.

Eventually the cops showed up and it took 3 shots to get one of the dogs down.

Posted by KilldaDJ on Aug-30-2004 10:46:

id probably axe kick it down then kick it more if it trys to eat me again

but in any case or chance, the dog would take me down, thats when i panic and roll away from the offending mouth. roll away and probably do a whirly sweep kick it and run away

but if i had a pen, i would literally stab it to death, ensuring it wont bite me ever again

ROFL my friend ashly got bit by a dog when he was on his paperound. i dont know why thats so funny but it is

That's the one I'm talking about. I believe they came back from a movie or something and the guy went to get the car in some dark alley when the rest waited a little further.

and you saw all this?

Posted by |cEbLu3 on Aug-30-2004 12:17:

depends on the dog. Some, like pitbulls go straight for the thought, and i'd stay the fuck away from rottwielers. regular dogs tho, just don't lose your head, if you can manage it , try to hit him in the throught, which shouldn't be too hard since it will probably be going for you with ist teeth. Stuns em, enough for you to attaaack, or run awaaaay.

I would guess that if it's a small dog or a very large dog you would have the best chances. With a small dog one good kick would probably be enough to send it packing. With a very large dog, you should be able to out manuever it in close range and land a few well placed kicks, hopefully enough to deter it.

It's the medium sized dog that I would be really worried about; like 50 - 100 pounds. Quick enough that you might not be able to kick it easily and strong enough that a solid kick isn't going to do much. I would say that this dog would likely get ahold of you and when it does, I think the best bet would be to try and damage it with your weight or leverage. When it grabs you, try to fall on it with your bodyweight and break something internally. Or grab one of it's legs and bend it whichever way it shouldn't bend. Choke it, bite it, rip an ear off, gouge an eye, shove your hand down it's throat, whatever, ol' Yeller must go down.

I think in the end I could win out over a dog but, if it's one of those medium-sized dogs and it is hell-bent on destroying me, I think it would take some unconventional tactics like those described above to do it. And by no means do I think I would come away with out a good beating.

for an asian, tis quite simple

pull a ninja, jump in the air while the dog lunges to own you while u do a back spinning 540 kick right in teh face

that has happended to me before and trust me, it works : )

DO THE NINJA!

Posted by Turbonium on Aug-30-2004 14:41:

Honestly, just kick it in the face or jaw. Just make sure your foot doesn't land in its mouth.

Say the dog is charging, jump forward at it and rotate slighty inward in the air (hard to explain), so that you kick it and land in a way that it reduced the chances of the dog grabbing hold of your foot as you kick and land. Also, it confuses the dog and almost guarantees that you don't miss.

It just takes one good boot in the face, eye, or jaw, and any dog with an IQ of a carrot will go away.

Really depends on the dog, but I think the dog would have to get lucky to win. It would have to bite me in the neck or on a vital artery. Otherwise, I would just beat the shit out of the dog. A few solid blows to the head would end the bout.

Posted by Orbax on Aug-30-2004 15:41:

offer your forearm as soon as it bites place your other arm behind its head on the back of its neck and use the leverage of the arm in the mouth to bend its head back until the neck breaks

Posted by born2trance on Aug-30-2004 15:48:

id bash it in the head 20 times

Posted by Jiffy on Aug-30-2004 15:50:

Someone actually told me once, that if you are ever caught in a situation where you're being attacked by a large dog...

if you have no way of defending yourself, to cram your hand down it's throat and grab its larynx (sp) and pull out. Yeah, you'll be bitten, but it'll kill the dog.

I don't wanna ever have to do that, though.

yucky.

i've heard some random thoughts before, but this one presently takes the cake...
