sick of uplifting trance??????

im finding trance extremely stale these days....i really couldnt pinpoint more than a handful of uplifting trance tracks that really do it for me....i much prefer to listen to prog trance stuff and the more techy side of trance...i still love listening to armin but i guess hes the only uplfiting trance dj that i truely respect these days....

i guess im just over the same melodies being used and used again on countless of occasions.....

and i never thought id say this but i really appreciate what marco v does with his sets!!!!!! having said that though i think even he has changed his style from how he played 2 years ago..doesnt phase me though..i prefer it that way....

progaddict.com is waiting.

nothing will beat '98-'01.

explains all the ridiculous remixes of classics/popular tracks.

damn annoying. bring on some originality.

Posted by $tip$y on Sep-28-2004 08:57:

hehehe...

well im not going to that extent..ive listend to prog since i was listening to trance so technically i wouldnt be defecting anywhere

what im trying to say is trance aint what it used to be..some djs are still obsessed with having to play a complete uplifting trance set...i just feel like times have changed and the only way for the genre to progress is to play a wider range of trance genres..such as prog trance, electro trance, uplifting and tech trance all in the one set....its just got to the point where with the exception of armin (even he delves into prog and tech) who leads the way all other uplifting djs have become boring...

does anyone agree? or am i talking shit as usual?

Posted by Synchronized on Sep-28-2004 09:03:

Yeah, I too have moved on to progressive. While I am not sick of uplifting trance or just trance in general, I find that the tracks being released these days are rather boring and don't really do anything for me. I do listen to trance every now and then but just not as much as I used too.

I dunno Stips, honestly I find this one a toughy. The tunes are still being made, dont loose faith in that. But I understand how ya feel about sets of build break melody bang can get to ya. Its a toughy and my theory on this changes just about daily, thats why Im liking Oakenfold ATM, his found form again and manges to mix it up while still being generally uPLifting.

..dont forget the fiasco progressive went through in 2001...

progressive was its best in 1996-1999
died on its arse in 2001..
and has made a healthy revival morphing with deep house, breaks, electro..

dont get me wrong..theres still great uplifting tracks getting released..but im sick of the persistence of some to think that uplifting is the be all and end all of trance and moving ahead with the times...

a good dj will be able to morph those diff genre of trance and still provide us with a fulfilling and uplifting set...oakenfold i agree has gone back to his roots somewhat by playing more trance..but reality is he cant mix for shit and has lost a lot of his appeal!

be carefull what you wish for stips...I love the dark stuff too...but look how it was a year or so ago...bongo mania

im not asking for dark stuff at all...a whole set of dark stuff would do my head in...

i just look at joof and hes one of the few who are able to mix it all in an awesome way..sometimes i think the psy influence is a bit too much..but imagine if you could take his set structuring and replace some of the psy elements with a few more uplifting elements and youd have a complete set with all those genres of trance covered..i would hardly call that dark!

Posted by Simon00 on Sep-28-2004 09:25:

Ive been so much into psytrance lately but all kinds but mostly progressive psytrance. There have been some amazing psy prog releases this year, Atmos, Buzzmonz, Peter Gun to name a few.

I was bored of late and got scott bonds album and if its an indication of where trance is going then i want to get off. Im so over meaningless vocals into the same old breakdown and whoever was using the old pioneer flanger in that album went spastic.

Looking forward to hearing Johns sound come sun am.

So no stipsy i know where you are coming from considering i used to be the biggest uplifting trance disciple of the modern era.

Although one thing i cant get into is this whole techno/tech trance influenced sound we are moving into aka marco v etc. I find techno so one dimensional and boring and ear bleeding that it just doesnt do it for me. It prob isnt to people who love it but i just aint one of them.

I reckon your wishes will all be granted in about 9months to a year

To some extent I agree with u stipsy. I love the really nice big uplifting tunes but they do so much more when played amongst more simple and minimal or solid and driving tunes.

This is what makes Armin so good, he leads into the big tracks with more simple ones, so in effect the set constanly builds around the tracks not in them, if u get my meaning?

thats exactly why I love the genre so much these days. Its not limited to one specific sound or beat and has an incorporation of many genres.

John 00 Flemming = Awesome.

He is leading the way in my opinion.

Posted by webmeister on Sep-28-2004 11:20:

Personally, I'd be placing Armin in the category of stale uplifting trance DJs, every time I listen to ASOT (which admittedly isn't often these days) it seems like he's still playing the same tunes as last time, or at least tunes that sound exactly like the tunes he was playing last time.

Marco V and j00f are the ones who really do it for me these days. Tiesto seems to be hot and cold, while Paul van Dyk's sets are very hit and miss. Ferry seems to be keeping uplifting real, but there's only so many times I can stand hearing that damn Synaesthesia remix

This is all just subjective of course, I haven't listened to much music for the last 12 months or so, thanks to stupid crappy dialup

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Sep-28-2004 11:31:

well, am sure all you guys know more about/have heard way more uplifting trance than yours truly. but im happy to say that im still a total UT slut and loving every second of it. i keep hearing all about the pre 2000 brilliance of trance, but the stuff ive managed to get a hold of makes me yawn.

as for prog, tek, house, breaks -ewwwwww. maybe im just not the conniseur (sp?) everyone else is, but im still lovin the build, breakdown, peak formula.

Posted by -=M=- on Sep-28-2004 12:41:

stips man i know what you mean - 2004 has been a bit of a downer compared to 2003 however there have been a number of releases in the last couple months that Hybrid Junkie has found which are pretty damn nice... i wont name them coz he wants them on his new cd

Posted by narcism on Sep-28-2004 12:58:

Its a case of being overindulged & spoilt. Being around when there were many many hits, now turned anthems was great and all.
But what its done to us is make us want people to churn out anthem after anthem. I too agree that uplifting has lost its direction, there is nothing innovative/fresh about it anymore.

I do however find myself venturing off into other avenues, but at the end of the day i still come back and listen to the great tracks of the past.

i love uplifting trance im just sick of hearing dj's ruin it.
wen armin plays it its amazing, seems like every 2nd trance dj copies everything he does and makes me get over the tracks!!

rach's tip: dont play communication unless u R armin gosh that shud b a given! (altho wen diggs and morro played it at alt relaunch that was aweeesome but that is the only exception)
