Now or later?

It's 12:30am.

I am wanting to go to bed.

BUT, I still have a dinky little hour of homework to do.

Do I do it NOW or do I wake up a little earlier IN THE MORNING to do it?

Get drunk instead and then decide

Posted by TweeK on Oct-19-2004 04:29:

NOW, people usually dont think right after they just got out of bed.

Arr, I've ran into the same problem multiple times.

On the one hand, if you stay up, you may not do such a good job, if you're tired. Some people aren't affected by it though.

If you wake up early to do it; well, you'll probably be more refreshed. But, if you underestimated how long the work took you to do, ... well you're screwed. ^^

I am taking an advance media writing course right now. the assigments are PSAs for RAdio broadcast, feature news release or News Releases

the way I look at it is... if I was in the real world and my boss asked me to cover a breaking news story, I would have to get it done in half an hour or less, with no grammatical errors or spelling or punctuation mistakes.

SO with that in mind, I wake up and write the whole thing an hour before class. Becuase the deadline mindset makes it all flow for me.

I dunno, i wouldnt suggest doing that for the assignment you have, unless its the same kind of thing. It just works for me because I pretend its a real-world situation.

So far I havent gotten lowen than an 89 on any of my papers i've turned in

Actually, from many tests that Psychologists have done proven that if you study BEFORE you fall asleep, that you'll get more out of it. See, when you fall asleep, you brain goes over what you've just done in your head, so when your fall asleep after studying, you're actually STUDYING while you sleep, whereas in the morning, you're stressed out and trying to study real fast, nothing is absorbed and you actually end up forgetting things much easier. But that's just tested Psychological theories, you don't have to listen to those, you can listen to the losers on TA instead.

Too late! My bet is that he has already gone to sleep. He wont be reading this untill the morning & by that stage it will be too late.

Posted by butterfly on Oct-19-2004 04:57:

he should have done it before bed. can always sleep in class tommorrow. or at worst show up late to hand the assignment in.

Posted by NoisyNeil on Oct-19-2004 09:25:

Why do today what you can still do tommorow

But 2b kinda serious: I would do it before you went too sleep because It's going to bother you if you don't and you'll probrably ask yourself the same question the next time

Isnt it possible to beat this system by providing a number of things to associate with key facts when you study? I do this alot with music where I relate a song to what I am reading at that time; additionally I can sometimes reelate aspects of a song to aspects of a topic depending on my knowledge and familiarity with each. The point is while there are several psychological trends underlying human kind's existence, it is still possible to buck them and/or make them work for you.

You're not really "beating the system" so much as employing an additional technique for memory retention. If you study in the morning but use good memory retention techniques, you might do as well if you had studied the night before and not used those techniques. But you won't do as well as if you had studied the night before and had used those techniques.

In my experience, whenever I come across that problem I always end up doing both or neither... which never really works to be fair.

Posted by Slylee on Oct-19-2004 20:43:

now. get it over with. you'll be happy you did.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Oct-19-2004 20:45:

The best way to study is to set yourself up in an environment that you will be taking the test in as well. I know this might not apply to homework so much (studying sort of IS homework, though), but if you set yourself up in a relaxed atmosphere when you study, you are more likely to remember what it is that you studied when the testing environment is the same/similar to the one you studied in. What I mean is, if you are going to be panicked for time during the test, panic yourself for time when you study - if you are going to be relaxed during the test, relax during your studying - you'll be much more likely to remember memorized facts that way.

As for essay tests and the like? You just have to be gifted, I guess

Posted by Slylee on Oct-19-2004 20:47:

^^^^^ i was just gonna post that that's the best way. sit at a table, in a chair, with lots of lighting, like when you're in class. that's how to get the most out of your memory when studying.

Posted by Xenocreator_PG_ on Oct-19-2004 22:26:

....errr, so Matt, What did you end up doing??? Night or Morning wank?
