KW: Looking for Help/Support on Setting up a EDM Night In the City

Hello All TA's:

I have been hearing over the past 3 years now that their really is nothing here in the Kitchener Waterloo Cambridge Guelph area that supports Trance, Progressive music. (-Purple Room and Dennis's Hard work)

I would like to gather a small group of people to look at setting up a night in the area....even if its a rotating club night. Do a mini0-circuit or something. nothing big, just a place where some TA's and other EDM lovers can head out and chill for a bit. no big names or anything, gotta start small right?

So I need some help here.

1) People, need people who have Ideas
2) Location, anyone have contacts? Ideas for clubs? I know their are some new clubs in Waterloo that might do something.
3) Sponsorship? Something small would help
4) someone that has had some work with promitions
5) anyone that can help with everything!

Clubs: Elements? Starlight? Gravity Sound Bar (who knows about this???), what happened to the other club that was across from kit city hall? the partially gay one?

I was also looking at doing a live to air on the radio, i know I have a few on-line stations that would to re-broadcast each week.

Please PLEASE post your ideas and so on. Anything to help.

Their is 1/2 a million people in the area.....how can their be no chillout place on a friday or saturday.

Frequency? I remember going there maybe a year ago for a dnb night... it was good. All gone now?

Posted by NuERA on Nov-04-2004 20:56:

frequency is a nice venue. they used to run weekly events there, but they died off.

the problem with k/w is that its hard to convince people to come out on a regular basis. anyone that goeso ut on aregular basis usually heads down to toronto.

best of luck to you, if you want to try and get something going.

if i were you, i wouldnt try and start weekly, especially right away. try organzing a one time event to meet some of the people in the area. if that goes well, build from that.

you also may wnat to try doing something by the universitys. i think that kzone karokee bar in university plazza let some jungle djs do a night one time, maybe try talking to them.

thats about all i can offer right now. best off luck, im off to melbourne. peace! :P

I would definity want to help out with this idea, but i can't make it out to the K-W area regularly. It's just too far out of the way from everything else inmy week. good luck barry

Laurier nursing

Conestoga nursing too

I don't know what UW has.

BUT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SOMETHING NEEDS TO GET GOING AROUND HERE BESIDES THE PURPLE ROOM. We need a sweet place like The Barking Frog. I loved that atmosphere so much.

Give Ampz his own club dammit!

Posted by DJ_Ampz on Nov-05-2004 01:21:

Hm, Rude Native bistro? My friend suggests that, apparently they have live bands sometimes. Maybe they'd be into something like this. Paddy Flaherty's maybe? Another suggestion was McGuinness Frontrow... Also Sammy's Garage downtown Kitchener.

You could always go down to the Royal Canadian Legion and party it up spinning trance for the 50 year olds drinking pints and playing cards

I think having that night at Bomber would be the ultimate. But that might be a bit difficult to arrange.

^Bomber = Waterloo/Laurier Pub Right? I think ive been there.....would be a nice place true. Thats what your saying right? did they get their Lic Licence back?

What about hitting the university/college campus pub nights? Guest DJ sets for those places? I would murder for something like that at Mohawk.

They will kill u if u won't play hip hop and rock during the pub nights ... I almost got killed once And that was some science society night or smth.. They asked UWDJ club (which i am a part of) to dj that night.

^YEah "pub" nights at a U is tough to do. lol. Noone wants to party at a place like that (I did a DJ night last year at Conestoga and we had like 50 ppl out)

As for Hamilton, We actually got something in the works their aswell

Details will follow if we get it worked out

Society sucks sometimes

paddys is going to be closed
sammy's lost their liquor licence.
bomber/fedhall/wilfs/turret, lol good luck.

your best bet for a cheap/free venue is osmewhere that has a slow night or trouble getting people in general. go in, tell thme your ideas, say that you will bring people in. give them the bar sales, and you take the door

also, talk to people in the city that have promoted before. it may sound easy to throw a club night and fantsize about how great it would be and how many people would come out, but its not as easy as it sounds. a big part of promoting in the city is knowing people and going out regualrlly yourself. if you are serious about this, go out and do some legwork, hit up rev, hit up starlight, anywhere that has djs, network, talk to people, make friends. the more people you know personally the easier it will be to convince them to come to your event.

another venue you may want to look into speaking iwth is the vault. new club in uptown waterloo, targets the older just out of school market, dress shirt and kahki crowd. maybe they would go for some sexy prog on one of their off nights.

best of luck barry!

ps, your roomate is quite sexy!

Thanx Andrew (ill pass along the comment to alexandra)

The Vault, that was what i was looking for. Im heading downtown tonight to do some searching there. try to hit all the places and see whats up.

hmmm gator pete's in Guelph?!

wow... man had it been a long ass time since i've visited this board... i don't think i've been on since before sept... anyway, Gator pete's used the be the old Kalidescope in downtown Guelph. Their opening night was the week of halloween...I guess some promotors got a hold of this news and brought Capital J down here..the tore the place down.. really good clean vibes.... ya i know he's a Jungle dj and not a trance dj but went i went i was sooo surprised to see the turn out for a little event like that.. even at the later part of the night 50+ peeps were there so maybe that would b a place to approach to see if they will do other events such as that but w/ trance muzik.. just a suggestion...

Walter Rosati spun at the Feds Hall last thursday. I missed it unfortunately.

Waterloo sucks in terms of EDM parties! I can't wait to get back to Toronto. Ampz good luck n hope you arrange something soon.

Thanx LiANG

As for Gator pete's, I think its do-a-ble. I know who brough him down so I can ask the promoter what he had to do and all. Thanx for the info dj_baby_tenshi, you should be posting more often
