Do you consider M.I.K.E. original and unique?
I remember there was a thread that was about M.I.K.E. and a lot of people on that thread said he is very unique and original because most of the tracks he plays on his sets are rare and unknown but they are damn good! He puts tracks on his sets that not a lot of people know but those tracks are great which makes him very unique and original.
In my opinion I think his sets are pretty unique since the tracks he plays are very good but not so well-known.
I hate listening to a DJ set and hear tracks I know or very popular tracks (mainstream even! bahhhhhhh)
What's your opinion?
He used to be quite original. His stuff on Scanner, USA Records and his more obscure releases all sounded quite different from anything else his colleagues came up with. Sadly, the success of his uplifting trance releases seem to have taken away his will to make more of this, even though he has released a new Calling The Freak record.
He was original and unique. Nowadays it's all the same IMO.

Can someone provide a tracklist of some of his recent mixes? This would help facilitate the discussion.
didnt mike used to do some work with marco bailey? or have i made that up...
anyway, for someone to be collaborating with people like marco bailey, and then go on to make tracks with armin & joof - it shows where his career has gone.

M.I.K.E. has done countless numbers of productions over the years under millions of aliases...his prodcutions have also might've created a milestone in the world of trance, electronic,dance music thru the years...aso being the master-mind behind co-productions..
Lately i beleive its harder because people tend to follow others opinions too much before taking a second listen at a production....but thats the freedom of opinion & will...and sound changes over years...
Either way, i think he is a brilliant producer who brings a touch of something dfferent now and then.....and that's why he's one of my favourites who I respect most- til this day really...so yea he is unique all the way for me...(and I mean like his more underrated aliases also...Blackmaster, Dark City etc..)
and like you also said mety333..about 90% of his selection in his sets are DOPE!

Yea i kno wat y ou mean..but its also with wat tour your lined with..like armada...
Not all his sets contain rareities...but about 90% of do sometimes,

ummm, i dont know if you are talking his productions or his live sets. ive seen him live very recently, and obviously ive heard his productions. his live sets are no better than your other trance DJ, he spins wut you would expect of him, hard bangin trance, a good time. his productions are not, imo, original or unique. but i do have to say he is still around and popular for a reason, and that reason being is that he is good. many of the typical sounding trance producers have fallen off, dumonde and people like that. but mike has stuck around through it all, he's gotta be doing something right. so all in all, not original but still good.
M.I.K.E.'s productions represented a great era for trance music, his ability to uplift and inspire music lovers placed him at the forefront of the dance movement. His tracks- with so much energy, were instant hits for us indulge in. Lately, as a whole, the evolution of trance has met a bumpy road. Perhaps it's the commercialization of the music, maybe producers are adapting to the demand but whatever the case may be- it is people like M.I.K.E. that need to be, once again, at the cutting edge of the sounds to come. Albeit, these hard working DJ/Producers need to be an inspiration to the coming creators whom will take their place. Let's hope that the forces that disolved the NYC underground dance movement do not affect the worldwide production of the music we love.
I don't know any artists that have a sound like his, but he's never variated much so his sound is getting pretty boring these days. Unique, but not particularly original.

Just compare his new stuff now to what he was throwing out just 2 years ago like exposure - magic impuls or plastic boy - silverbath and you'll see how fast he's gone from good to ewww
he used to, then he lost it and I'm not quite sure when that was, I'll guess late 2002. His productions are the same shit, diff pile these days, he is making so much money from the evil regime, he does'nt care anyway

He's the first i know that has his own unique 'dark/cyber/electronic' sound. To me, that's one very special thing about him.

i saw mike live awhile ago(a week or so ago), and i must confess that i was a bit disspointed. Since i remember him as unique producer, and he played that "harder" sound than most uplifting guys, i even remembered he played techtrance awhile back. Nah.. nothing special nowdays
WTF was up with Pound and Intruder...
I'm surprised at the amount of prog and prog trance in his sets. Based on his production style I would have figured he would play uplifting, epic trance.
I enjoy his production, but I don't find it particularly unique. He also has a signature sound that is good, but more variety would be nice.
do i find mike unique?
i did.although 'pound' did blow me away
