Cool Tranceaddict Mp3 DJ Mix Competition VII

Closing date for DJs: 30 November **
Closing date for mixes: 31 December
Closing date for results: 31 January

**Only 25 competitors will be allowed.

Rules for DJs:

1. You may mix with Mp3s in Real Time (Traktor was the most used for the last one).

2. All mixes must be recorded live, no using multiple mixes and sticking the best transitions together.
You may plan and practise your mix, but not to the point that it becomes robotic.

3. You may not download other contestants mixes. The mix must be exclusive for the competition.

4. You must mix trance, this rule bends as far as progressive and hard trance.

5. Mixes must be 60 to 80 minutes in length.

6. All mixes must be uploaded with a tracklist, a cue sheet would also help.

7. Contestants may not also be a judge, you have the choice to be either, not both.

8. All DJs must state how they have made their set, ie which program used.

9. Mixes must be submitted in 160kbps Mp3 quality, CBR or VBR, no Mp3-Pro files are allowed.

10. You must actually mix to gain marks, snapping together of tunes is not allowed. That is not really DJing.

Rules for judges:

1. All mixes must be marked on skill and the way the contestant progresses their mix, NOT ON PERSONAL OPIONION OF THE CONTESTANT OR THE SONGS HE WISHES TO MIX.

2. Mixes will be marked on the following categories:
a) Track selection and play order
b) Beat-matching
c) Transition harmonics
All sections contain 25 marks, no section is worth more than another.
A percentage will then be calculated from these three areas to give a better comparison.

3. You are not allowed to share any kind of feedback about the mixes until I post the final rankings.

4. Your marks will be sent to me in this format: tracklist xx/25 beatmatching xx/25 harmonics xx/25 on each mix.

Both DJs and judges may be disqalified for not following the rules.

All judges will have to be appoved by me and will only be accepted as long as nobody else has any problems.

Judges and Administrators have the right to reserve and change/ammend these rules.

Funny question! Do what you think it would be better for your set, but stick to the rules. OK?

I'd like to enter this one. But going up against Audun and Marius Linauskus could be tough, theirs were very good last time.

If there is a dire need of judges I will humbly remove myself and become a judge again if needed.

Is this solely based for users mixing on the computer, or can actual vinyl/cd-r DJ's get in this fun as well?

How subjective is this?

Lets say the person used "cheese," but had excellent mixing and cool tricks and effects. How would that be judged?

What's the rule with vocals and age of the music.

What if you used "popular trance" Tiesto/Blanks and Jones? Since this board seems to hate just about everything that gets popular.

Its not that everyone hates what is popular, its just the repetitive nature of things. Every DJ seems to be putting out the same songs and rarely are we seeing innnovation and creativeness. This is mainly directed towards amateur DJ's.

Don't worry, I'm going to make a really bad mix this time
And to Hyoctane: I dont think that the age of the tunes would matter that much and neither would it be a problem with popular trance or vocal trance, but cheese might not be very popular among the judges. Remember that the tunes you'll play isn't the only thing that matter, set structuring and beatmatching also count alot. Other than that it wouldn't be wise to only play old tracks, a mix of old and new would be better. I'm not a judge so its not up to me to decide thought.
