What to get my "girlfriend" for her birthday?

Well I debated asking this because the maturity level on TA has been anything but stellar the past few months, but I'm hoping I can get some genuine responses to the question....

I've been dating this girl for a month or so and I really have no idea what to get her for her birthday... I don't think it should be anything too extravagent as that may be a bit odd. What would you recommend as a good birthday gift for someone you have been going out with for 5-6 weeks?

I know she likes animals a lot, and clothes/shoes, and music (not trance that much though ). I was going to get her a gift certificate to Sephora (sp?) because I know she needed a new perfume but a) she needed one immediately (and her b-day isn't until nov. 23rd) and b) she bought one today but she's not sure if she'll keep it and c) i thought that may be a boring gift?

Cheers,
Keith

if you want to stick to the gift certificate idea, you could always get her a gift card for a salon/spa so she can get a haircut/manicure/massage/etc... although i usually tend to think gift cards are a bit impersonal.

maybe try shopping at some unique stores rather than your typical mall stores, you might end up finding something really original, maybe a bit odd, but i find that stuff like that makes the best gifts for someone special. plus it shows you think outside the box. (i plan on doing all my xmas shopping this way, my goal is to not step inside a mall once!)

i don't really know much about her, but here are some other ideas that basically any girl might like:

eh i'm running out of ideas. i can't think when i force myself to. but i'm sure you'll think of something, and you can take her out for a nice romantic dinner as well.

i was also thinking of the stuffed animal as well because as i mentioned she really likes animals (and she's pre-med studying to be a vet)... i know she has a golden retriever so maybe a stuffed one of them? hmmm...where can i find a nice stuffed animal store in nyc? perhaps toys r us in times square?

keep the suggestions coming...

Cant go wrong with that Sephora gift certificate.

Give her a pearl necklace.

Posted by Zewad on Nov-11-2004 21:48:

one of those super squishy pillow thingys from brookstone,.. i got one for my sister last xmas and she said its one of the best presents ive ever given her,...

get her a bag of like 10 individually wrapped presents,.. and have each of them be stupid like skittles, a note pad, cheetoes, gas-x (as a joke), hot pockets..etc.. and you could have a nice necklace or some other form of jewlery at the bottom after she opened all the little doo dads first...

do they have build-a-bear in new york? if not go to www.buildabear.com You can pretty much costumize a stuffed animal for anyone. I have a few that I have got in the past and they are a great gift

i would think they'd have one in NYC, but if they don't, go to The Palisades mall in Nyack 'cause i know there's one there.

Tu t'y connais...

I got my ex one of those bears, the ones that come with a box of chocolate hung around their neck...but the chocalate is always super cheap and nasty...so I opened the box and lined it with gold foil and put Godiva chocolates in there...then wrapped it shut with a new riboon.

Just makes it a little more personal.

a maccaroni necklace! she'd love that

Marry me.

There you go Keith, that's the perfect gift. My weakness is a coach purse. Every girl's is actually, unless they have bad taste.

*edit* The star registry thing is really romantic too.

*edit number two* 5-6 weeks? I just read that part. Depends on how serious you are. If you aren't TOO serious, go with a nice dinner at her favourite restaurant. If you are serious, coach purse.

First of all...you have a girlfriend now? Geez...we really don't keep in touch do we?

Gift certificates work from family members. When you are in a relationship you should try to be a little more personal. 5-6 weeks is a short amount of time though so I can see your dilemma.

lol no offense but coach bags are really played out. "oh look at my little purse with 'c' all over it, look everyone i have a coach bag, i have money".

all the ghetto girls down here have coach bags and dooney & bourke bags w/ the dumb letters all over them. even the signature brown leather luis vuitton one is ugly to me. if you want to buy her a quality purse that is in a different league, and isn't so showy, go with prada or kate spade.

and i must say that buying a girl a purse is very cool because most men aren't up to par with women's fashion and could give two shits about "accessories" or even know what they are...my bf bought me a prada bag for xmas last year and i totally wasn't expecting that AT ALL. and it wasn't so much that it was "prada", i was just impressed that he would pick out a purse for me. it's just cute when guys buy their girlfriend girly things that usually only girls buy for themselves.

i still like my idea the best. buy her a star and name it after her. they send you this little certificate in the mail w/ a map in the sky of where exactly her star is...and it's affordable
