Shame / Disagreement TRANCEADDICT : Time for an Upgrade!

The reason I'm posting in this forum is because this is where most TA's visit and contribute their opinions, so here I go.

Tranceaddict is in a serious need for an upgrade!!!
I'm noticing that on the home page, that I don't even have to scroll down half way, and there lies the list of the 2003 top DJ's. 2004 is now coming close to an end, and there's only about a half dozen new things on this site from over a year ago!

Obviously tranceaddict thrives solely on the forums. To keep people updated on what's happening, and to chat with others about anything on their minds... but for someone like me who has been visiting TA on a regular basis for the past 4 years, I'm really getting bored.

I admit, everytime I enter this site, it's right to the Forums page, because that's all this site is really about right? But seeing that there are sooooo many new TA's, the forums are getting redundant and boring

What's gonna make me want to keep coming back here? I'm not seeing anything new on this site for me to explore. As if it's been said that Tranceaddict is fine the way it is, and nothing needs to be changed. Well, I think TA should be taken a little more seriously by it's founders and keep people coming back to it.

What's the point in having these other pages, when there's nothing new
It'd be nice to see more tracks added more often, more interviews, more general info without having to search the entire site before stubbling across it.

I will always be a tranceaddict! I love it here, but it's time someone took some time to put more into it. It feels like a long-lost high school project with potential... that was just left along the way.

* this thread was inspired by a friend who signed up and said her first impression was that it was outdated! I had to agree

I agree , its time for a serious update and somone with more time on their hands to do so.

Posted by Rick D on Nov-21-2004 23:24:

see what you mean, but i think its fine the way it is, like yourself, i only ever use the forums. Might check other parts out like once every month to see if there are any new livesets, but apart from that i dont bother. I would imagine that the people who founded it (swamper) all those years ago, probably have a lot more to do woth their life nowadays, so don't get time

Posted by Radagast on Nov-21-2004 23:24:

The only update needed is search functionality.

My advice:

Why don't you try to contribute to the content of this site instead of complaining?

If you want interviews do one and post it on this site and/or submit questions to ask to artists.

If you want to talk about new tracks look in the review forum and add your opinions there and check out what other people recommend.

If you want to hear music check out the dj and production forums. You can discuss and review sets there.

If you just want to fuck around check out COR.

If you want to talk politics check out PDD

If you want to talk about music start a thread here.

I would recommend that you move around the entire TA forum and add content to each sub-forum which appeals to you. You contributing in anyway are what make the site great.

To make a constructive tangent from this, it would be really, really, really nice if search actually worked for words of length four or less (and more than half the time it seems to hate five characters, too).

A real pain in the arse when searching for terms like "goa", "van dyk", etc.

Yes, but at the same time searching for "goa" or "van dyk" will give you enough results to slow the server down, so it's nice to have a limit on what you can and cannot search for.

As if you will find another site that has as many options or is as easy on people as tranceaddict and does Swamper ask you for anything?, does he bitch about costs like other sites, NO

so if you don't like it, then go elsewhere

Swamper is only one person and I hear ver.2 is in the works but I don't know about the complainers but I'll be the first to thank Swamper for making the forums, so quick, so easy and adding so many different things that he custom modded himself.

What, there's a site here?

Posted by noikeee on Nov-21-2004 23:45:

i'd like to see a new main page in 2004 style, and maybe a new design of the forums (considering the color scheme would still remain dark and easy on eyes), but it's fine as it is anyway, and it gives this nostalgia feel

Id just like a different forum theme we can choose. The black hurts my eyes

Seconded. All I need are the forums. Oh, and I like the layout as it is.

Well if you don't like it, go to a slower, lamer place with less options and begging for money 24.7....

like TRANCE.NU!

seriously quit the crying people and either put up or shut up. You can't have the best of all worlds, if you think you are so great, start your own site.

i'm sorry but this just didn't make sense. nobody on here was "crying" or demanding features, just suggesting what they thought that could be improved.

Posted by CATHAIN on Nov-22-2004 00:03:

i like tranceaddict.com

same shit almost every month these days. Use the site suggestions man, I'm tired of people saying this is not great, this is not great. I mean Swamper worked his ass off to put this site where it is today.

Posted by Fresh Prince on Nov-22-2004 00:06:

Here's an idea then, kill the site, and just make the forum the main page since it's what all of this site is about today.

Um, if you would have actually bored to re-read my post since apparently the first time round you didnt get it, you would've noticed i wasnt complaining, nor dissing it. I merely stated what id RATHER.

Noone's crying, just a simple suggestion.

No? Fine, lets leave it at that.

Posted by torontotrance on Nov-22-2004 00:11:

but understand I've heard them all for years. Understand as well that Swamper does this as a hobby, full time job, g.f and other clubbing activities take up his time. Swamper reads the user suggestion forum, use that for the new TA. I'm sick of it completely, people waiting for upgrades, when really Swamper is the only programmer and he busted his ass in the early days and kept this site going.

+1

I'm sure if a donations link was put somewhere, plenty of people would be willing to make contributions that way. And there are more than enough regulars Swamper should be able to trust with server access to make updates.

Everything is fine, and good.

More livesets for download would be really nice though.

Come on spectre, is that troll bait?

If something is free then that implies some state of perfection or if its not perfect suggestions should be seen as an evil outside influence that should be silenced?

We are not outside. We experience this site. And part of the experience for some is seeing how things could be improved. It doesn't mean we don't greatly appreciate Swamper and all his works.

The opposite is true. We appreciate and as part of our tribute we want to translate our experience into an improved experience for all.

Now, I often agree with what you say, but here's where I'm going to go on the defensive. People whine and complain about things here all the time; if you don't like it, "put up or shut up."
