House of Flying Daggers

Zhang Yimou does it again...! awesome colors used again in this film, great character development and chemistry, no special fx on fighting sequences which were dope anyway plus good acting and interesting plot.. recommended to everyone who has an open mind. romance in this movie is a bit more emphasized than in Hero nonetheless it isnt carried out too much and works nicely. go see it !

watch the trailer & all that good stuff HERE

me akko & highmay saw it on opening day and left the theatre with smiles.

asian films are pretty cool there is
something different about the way
they narrate and ilustrate stories

one of my fav is called "himalayans"
excellent photography an story about
this peoples annual journey across
the mountains

the worst part about the american release of hero is that quentin tarantino shamelessly promotes it as "quentin tarantino presents"

and if i do recall you don't find zhang yimou's name anywhere on the front of the dvd box

why dont u write it ?

sal : give tarantino some props cuz if he didnt convince miramax to distribute hero it would have never made it to the states for a wide audience to enjoy a theatrical release... hes not milking in blatantly with these asian films[he 'presented' iron moneky as well] i dont think $ is his upmost intentions.. its out of love which is displayed on his own film Kill Bill where his passion & influences of Asian/kung fu/samurai films are clear to see.

no i know he did all that... but still it takes away from director zhang... i've heard people say that hero was directed by tarantino when it is sooo not

ya i saw debates about it on the IMDB.com boards, it would have been nice if they did give zhang more credit but i honestly wouldnt have known about it till probably way later if i wasnt brought there.. sigh.. still great movie

btw, this movie was not that good. and there were too many fx in the fight scenes. i thought hero was a great movie. this was no where near close. not really worth the 2 1/2 hours.

i believe people did not like the too-much-love-story aspect of the movie? i guess it's a grind if u're not used to it

there were no special fx used in the actual 'fighting' sequences.. wires were def. used during the tree scene n what not but no computer generated fx were used in all the fight scenes... zhang yimou claims so himself. i do agree that hero was slightly better but i thoroughly enjoyed HOFD as well. Andy Lau was my fav. HK fim actor from back in the days.

btw, i thought zhang ziyi looked the best in the movie considering that she was in countless fims since crouching tiger]

I saw the movie last Saturday... the artistry was great and I especially loved the bamboo tree fight scene... much better choreographed than crouching tiger's weeping trees fight scene imo.

I got extremely annoyed by the numerous twists in the story though.

Posted by trunks1022 on Dec-28-2004 05:13:

i finally saw this tonight.

the twists in the story were not annoying. the fact that the last hour was SO drawn out just killed any momentum from the plot twist that occurs at that point. i honestly just wanted the movie to end. now i understood why audiences in asia left the theaters laughing...

Posted by AlphaStarred on Dec-28-2004 05:32:

what a coincidence...i was just watching this today on my comp...stopped at about 40 min. tho, and am gonna finish watching it tomorrow

Media is a form of a country's culture and a means of communication from the government, depending on the nature of the governing body. I saw this movie a few weeks ago and I think it's pretty similar to Hero, which is known to be biased towards glorifying the Chinese Communist Party. There is still a ways to go ideologically, in my opinion, but it was an insightful movie, nonetheless.

Posted by DeRangedMind on Dec-28-2004 05:50:

Why do asian films have the most depression endings
