The story in ancient Asian myth is that the koi would try to swim up this waterfall, and any who made it to the top were transformed into dragons. So, if a koi was tattooed "swimming downstream", it would be sign of defeat.

Who does your work? I have a half sleeve dragon, need about 1-2 hours more to have it finished.

Thanks for the info... ive been looking into finding more info about oriental tattoos... i plan on continuing that up to my shoulder and so on. I love the oriental style...

jenny, do you have a larger clearer photo of the scorpion one? i've considered getting a scorpion tattoo as well (for 2 reasons - 1, i'm a scorpio, the other i won't mention)... although i'm not sure where i'd put it since i have 4 tattoos already and they're pretty much balanced out on my body already.

i'll post pics later. i need to take newer ones.

This tatto is complete now though it now extends up my back.... When I start being tattoo'ed again it will be the remainder of my back and other thigh. This tattoo and all remaining tattoo will be completed by a New York artist by the name of mike rubendal, he is heavly influenced by a japanese Artist by the name of Horiyoshi III.

Also I am not completely sure where you heard the myth of the koi and the dragon. But it sounds interesting... There could be any number of myths of the koi. But in a most common sense the koi is a sign of good fortune, when you see them eating the cherry blossoms as they fall on the water....In any case it doesnt matter which way the koi is facing. And the koi is symbolic for many things....

Horiyoshi III is a damn good artist! One of the best. The closest one near me is Dai Wei but he does portraits as his specialty. Nice piece, it must have set you back alot(worth it though).
