Apple Releases New Ipod & "Headless" Mac Mini

sherry!
mini? how about some mini pics there sherry
Once again, apple shocks the market with a whopping 12 hours of battery life. My seven year old discman lasts 4 times as long.
its not like form factor pc's weren't out 3 years ago or anything....

At first, I thought the first one was a vibrator..
i'm unimpressed. instead of innovating, apple seems headed toward competing on price, and the downward spiral on prices that that encourages, and hurts all producers.
the cube is just a cpu right? nothing new, but just another option for consumers.
the player without a screen. even the cheap ones have screens. who wants a screenless player? all in all, apple is just dilluting its brand.

Apple Unveils Mini Mac, IPod Shuffle 1 hour, 41 minutes ago Technology - AP By MAY WONG, AP Technology Writer SAN FRANCISCO - Apple Computer Inc. chief executive Steve Jobs (news - web sites) unveiled a very small $499 computer on Tuesday and a flash memory-based music player called the iPod Shuffle. The new products seek to make inroads against the traditionally more affordable PC market and against lower-cost competitors to Apple's wildly popular iPod. The Mini Mac computers, smaller than even some standalone external computer drives, go on sale Jan. 22. They lack a monitor, mouse and keyboard. The 40-gigabyte Mini Mac will cost $499, an 80-gigabyte model $599. "People who are thinking of switching will have no more excuses," Jobs said during a keynote speech at Macworld and Expo. "It's the newest and most affordable Mac ever." The product for the first time puts Apple in the budget desktop PC arena, which so has been largely confined to personal computers that rely on Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating system. Building upon the success in a rapidly growing niche that it already dominates, Apple also is rolling out two lower-priced versions of its iPod music players. The iPod Shuffle, available immediately, is smaller than most packs of gum, weighing less than an ounce. Unlike the hard drive-based iPod Mini, it doesn't have a display. There's a scroll wheel for the controls so a user can either play the songs in order or have the device automatically shuffle stored songs in a random order. Apple is selling two versions of the iPod Shuffle. The smallest will have 512 megabytes of storage and cost $99. A one-gigabyte version, which holds 240 songs, will sell for $149. The lowest cost iPod is the mini, which costs $249 for four gigabytes enough to store about 1,000 songs "We want to bring even more people into the digital revolution," Jobs said. The iPod has helped infuse new life into Apple. In the past year, the Cupertino-based company's stock has tripled on strong sales of the iPod, which is emerging as one of the 21st century's first cultural icons. With the Mac Mini, Jobs is setting out to expand Apple's 3 percent share of the U.S. computer market. Investors appeared unimpressed with Jobs' announcements. Apple's shares fell $2.71 to $66.25 during Tuesday's trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market. |
people are saying the apple mini is a hoax but with apple sueing thinksecret for posting pics of the item it could very well prove not to be fake after all.
One important detail that was not mentionned is that the apple mini is going to be a true pc killer if it is indeed real as they are going for the 500 $ computer market.
A mac ... 500 bucks
that's a first!

pandering sucks...Apple must be getting desperate.
whoring out OSX in a tin can computer without the power or accesories to back up the brandname is bad business. Mac works due to the multimedia power...making a shit version of an Apple just to sell it at 5 bens is stupid. does NOT encompass why you might need a Mac.
ipods are slowly making me sick. style selling manufacturing defects. ive yet to meet anyone that has had an ipod for more than a year without problems. oh wait, every Mac has serious issues which cannot be fixed by the user, thats why they invariably dont get business|

ROOOOOOOOOOFL!!!!!!!
Hey why dont we all just jump on the Apple-hating bandwagon, I mean we are all just a bunch of brainless, witless retards right?
The mini-mac is a great idea. Its a very cheap entry level mac that you can introduce people to OSX on. It could also easily be used for a media PC. Use your TV as the monitor, FTP files to it via the ethernet, and it beats the shit out of and dvd player/home media center out there. The only thing better than it at this point for versitility(not including sleek sexyness of the minimac) is an xbox modded and using XBMC. Im actually thinking of getting one for this express purpose.
This is coming from someone who doesnt like Macs at all. Oh and the mp3 player thing looks fucking retarded.
Man even one of those tiny things has a screen. Why would they make it without a screen? I mean come on keep it simplistic, but not stupid.
I used to have one of those things btw...it sucked because mine was a 64mb...I think they go up to 256 though. But the thing about it was its design, and the way it funtiond was so sweet, despite the fact that it seems like a girlish mp3 player.
I now have a 20gig fourth generation ipod...and its kind of blah. Im sure glad I won it, because if I had payed 500 bucks (thats about what they go for canadian) for one, I would be furious. It certainly isnt worth that kind of money.
