What is your favourite synth?

sine, square or sawtooth?

personally, I love square and I am looking for an artist that uses square alot

Posted by Floorfiller on Feb-01-2005 23:46:

i like variety

Posted by meneedit on Feb-01-2005 23:46:

yeah variety is good

Posted by noikeee on Feb-01-2005 23:54:

sine cause it's smoother and nicer to the ears.. however lately there's too many sine leads and it became a bit of a cliche. doesn't mean i don't like square or saw.. when used properly they are great

but i guess most tracks use the three of them, and even most synths use a combination of them

Posted by Dan1584 on Feb-01-2005 23:57:

variety

By the way... Perhaps someone could post examples of songs that perfectly describe these different synths for those who don't know, b/c I'm sure many are reading this thread thinking "wtf are those?"

Posted by meneedit on Feb-02-2005 00:14:

true. very true.

um.... I can only give names tho.

Postal Service - Brand New Colony --> Square Synth (very start of song)

i'll let the others give examples of other ones

Posted by beats and beeps on Feb-02-2005 04:36:

I guess I'd have to say sine, but I cringed when I read those three classifications.

PS:LMAO at VSTi

Yeah, that'd be cool. Or maybe you all who know could name a synth and then a well-know track that uses it?

pulse waves have their moments too

as do sine

and square

Posted by FrancoR on Feb-02-2005 08:09:

the saw
7 detuned saws makes the supersaw most know like Airwave sound

Posted by noikeee on Feb-02-2005 11:13:

white room - white room is a blatant example of a sine lead.. even if it's annoying as fuck

if u listen later on in that track, as the filter opens up, ull see its actually a square, or posibly a combination of square and sine

I like variety. Favorite synth in a a track = Suburban Train . the opening synth.

Posted by locutox on Feb-03-2005 04:09:

Square Wave + Pulse Width Modulation does it for me

But really it's not the shape of the waveform, it's what you do with it that counts! Since by themselves you're in video game music terrority.

Posted by stamper on Feb-03-2005 13:45:

samples or STFU.

Posted by ONION on Feb-03-2005 13:54:

wtf you talking about waveforms for?

Many synths have these waveforms in them: sine, sawtooth, pulse, square, triangle etc etc...

If the question is: What is your favourite synth? Then list your favourite synth... Virus, Nord Modular, Supernova etc etc

If you're talking about SYNTHESIS?:

List:

etc etc

Posted by meneedit on Feb-03-2005 22:32:

lol

I was basing this entire thread on what everybodies fave primary unFX'd synth was.

So there you go...

and yes it is still called a synth if it is in its first state.

Posted by RyanR on Feb-04-2005 02:41:

Is the question:

"Whats your favorite synth?"

or

"Whats your favorite waveform?"

Everyone is talking about waveforms . . .

Posted by FrancoR on Feb-04-2005 02:46:

hehe true
my favs synths are JP-8000 and Supernova II

Posted by Plastick on Feb-04-2005 07:59:

I dont think any of "sine, triangle, square or sawtooth" is a synth... Right, they're waveform instead.

Hmmm I seems to have forgotten my audio studies

Just checked out this
