Tech-Trance

Can someone explain me in words the term: "Tech-Trance"?
I know what it is and how to tell if a track is a Tech-Trance (although I haven't heard one in a long time).
Most of the Trance I heard in the 90s I define as Tech-Trance.

Can someone explain this term in words?
Is it Trance with Techno elements and sounds?

suposedly a mix of trance with techno, it ended up becaming just slightly more percussive trance where the main melody uses only one note repeated and stretched

Tech Trance of today is nothing like it was 3-5 years ago, eg people consider tiesto techtrance, but its not imho

They always describe MIKE/Push as being "at the forefront of Europes tech-trance sound" What does that mean exactly?

Posted by varun on Feb-28-2005 03:29:

Lieb's productions were always ahead of their time.
Unfortunately, not many admit that.

IMO in 2004 Marco V is a Hard Prog trance dj

It means that whoever is saying this doesn't know much about MIKE's sound. He's way too epic sounding, but not quite as uplifting as AVB, PVD, etc.

It like a dog & a cat fight. The cat will die & the dog may bury it in the backyard. After a month or so the dog may decide to dig up its bones & have a chew on them. If you replace the cat with a synthsizer, replace the dog with a 6 year old kid on ritalin & replace the bones with a chocolate cake; then that is pretty close to tech-trance.

Indeed. Check out his L.S.G. albums, especially "The Black Album", if you want some high quality stuff.

my idea of tech trance is a track with short, sharp, stabby and sometimes broken synths

From reading other peoples posts in this thread, these examples may not be correct, but here is what i class as tech trance...

marc van linden - AM2PM/LH3293
Ron van den beuken - Timeless/Endless
The Freak - Rising Angel
mike koglin - The Silence 2005 (The after the first breakdown is quite techy)
Sam sharp productions
Sander Van Doorn - Dark Roast

tbh mate i'd just class them as hardtrance, not many of them are really 'techy' in the old way, think stuff like Marco V - Milla or Indicator etc

thats really strange, i'd class indicator as hard trance. But then again I havent been into names of tracks and genres that long compared to some on here, so dont really know what 'old tech trance' is
