Unhappy *update* My cat may be goin under the knife tomorrow

So...The past 2 weeks or so my cat hasn't been feeling too well.

He lost some weight, and this saturday, he started to lose hair on the little path where his tears rolled down, on the left side of the nose...then yesterday same thing on the right. And on his chin his skin is all red

I took him to the vet on saturday and they said it doesn't look serious, and they called today with the blood test results, nothing came up.But, to make matters worse, I woke up today and found his nose lookin all weird. Like, squished in. That was in the morning. Right now the nose is normal again, cept the skin is peeling off.

So yea...we're taking him to the vet tomorrow and they're gonna put him to sleep and do a more detailed scan on him to see what's wrong.

edit: fixed last sentence. they're not actually operating on him right away.

He's about 9 years old. So he's not THAT old yet.

I'll operate on old Puss'n Boots free of charge with a Buck Knife!

Better get a sack ready to throw 'er in the river when Doc Ape gets done with the surgical procedures though...

Sounds weird...they dont know anything else? Sounds like Mange or some kind or skin parasite but that wouldnt make sense for why they want to operate.

i was thinking they same thing. i mean an operation can cost alot, what else do they know? i have had a few cats in my lifetime, and it just sounds kind of odd. sometimes hair loss is associated with something else, what else is the vet telling you? good luck with everything, and as someone said before it is good that you are taking care of your pet. i just went thru a big thing with my cat, so i understand. cats rock!

My cat may be goin under the knife tomorrow

K...I was a little misinformed yesterday. They won't actually operate on him immediately, but he will be put to sleep and they will run different scans on him (biopsys), etc. and if necessary they will operate. My mom didn't clearly explain to me what's going on.

Anyways, I'm at school now, waiting to write my next 2 exams and my mom is taking him to the vet, or is already there.

*sigh*

ps. they also took urinal tests yesterday and nothing abnormal came up on those...so neither blood tests or urinals show anything serious.

ya ya, same difference not permanent sleep

anyways, he's back home now. I still have to get all the details but from what my mom told me over the phone, his immune system is what caused all this. The system started defending itself against his own body. It's permanent too, so he's gonna have to be taking steroids for the remainder of his life to help keep him stable (and its not garanteed to work). And antibiotics for 2 weeks.

He's doing a little better now though. Looks like he has some of his energy back.

Requiem: sorry to hear about your cat

I can totally feel what you're saying...just the thought of a dog attacking my cat gets my blood boiling. I love dogs too, but if any of them would mess with my cat I'd make sure they never look at a cat again.

kill it.

things nearly dead anyway by the sounds of it.

damn dude, i'm sry
i can kinda relate
about 7 or 8 years ago (my cat's almost 17 now) my cat was sleeping in our garage where she always does and a coyote got inside probably through the cat door thingy and attacked her while she was sleeping
she dissappeared for a good 2-3 days then limped back to our house with a couple scratches near her eyes and a bite mark on her leg
fixed her up at the vet though, and she's back to normal

man she's so old :/
i always walk her down to the garage when we go to bed, but she walks soooo slowly and lazily
she takes after me i think
