Kingdom of Heaven screening review

Fans of Gladiator will love this movie.

Orlando Blooms character wasn't quite was heroic as Maximus from Gladiator, but he does a pretty good job of redeeming himself of the cowardice he left behind after Troy.

The scenes are bigger, bloodier, and with more grandeur.

The beginning is a little slow, but delivers a nice segue for the climactic ending, while it may have been a tad overwrought.

Those of you that don't fare well with violence might find the amount in this movie a little more excessive than Gladiator. Lots of arrows in the eye and people getting their skulls split open by swords.

Considering I loved Alexander and everyone else hated it, I think I'll love this movie

I"m seeing this movie tonight...and I expect it to piss off all the fanatical Muslims and Christians.

Posted by starsearcher on May-06-2005 14:05:

I was thinking it would as well but apparently the Muslim community said they liked the movie and they have no problems with it...just from an article i read the other day

I read Ebert's review at www.suntimes.com/ebert and he actually says the film tries to stay neutral. Apparently, it's more about a soldier's honour rather than getting too much into who was right or wrong during the Crusades. But it will no doubt spark controversy. I don't know much about this period of history except the military side of things but I probably shouldn't expect a history lesson. It's kinda just filler until Star Wars anyway.

Sweet.
I was hoping Orlando wasn't going look like a goof as a hero.
(Even though he was awesome as Legolas).

I think I'll make it to this one...

Orlando Bloom doesn't deliver a memorable performance, but the movie was a whole was pretty good as far as production goes.

It was said that at the height of filming, they incorporated more than 25,000 extras.

Might watch this if nothing better to do. Alexander was a shithole but Troy was awesome. Hoping I won't be disappointed

I didn't think Troy was that great...it was ok to watch but nothing special...Brad Pitt's too pretty for that role I just didn't buy it

Troy was terrible.....And to think, they probably spent a lot of money on that and didn't even come close to making it back.

....And what's up with supposed Greek people having British accents?!

That's what I was wondering while watching Alexander...seemed that half of his commanders were Scottish/Irish/British but I still liked it

You're kidding right ? I certainly hope so...cause either you have a very refined sense of which movies are good, or you've just never seen a truly crappy movie before. Allow me to present exhibit A. Some of the worst movies ever commited to celluloid :

If Alexander is worse then any of the movies listed above, i'm never going to watch another film again. While it wasn't the opus people expected, it wasn't total rubbish either. Kingdom of Heaven on the other hand looks very promising. I'll probably check it out sometime this weekend.

Way to refute! Hahahah...

I didnt think it was complete garbage either, despite the hate-bandwagon everyone seemed to be on about the movie before!

the best actors are British. Unless of course you want Tom Cruise and Josh Hartnett filling ancient historical roles.

Posted by arek on May-07-2005 00:50:

It's now among them.

I thought Alexander missed the point on the legendary general, but not because of the homosexuality issues. It's a proven fact Alexander, and many Greeks of his time, had sex with both women and men. Deal with it.

The movie, in my eyes, failed because it tried to paint Alexander as some kind of world unifying prophet, rather than the skilled and rather brutal military leader with the thirst of conquest that he actually was.

Love

Love movies like this. Most likely watching it tonight.........anything with Orlando on the screen is good for me...

Posted by Cal on May-08-2005 03:41:

Film was wack.

Orlando can't carry the lead, his character's story made no sense, there was barely any emotional involvement in the movie, the love story was stupid, the token bad guy was the lisping metro from XXX, and they killed off jedi master qui-gon jin, which is just inexcusable.

Oh and the love interest looked like a guy I work with, which was creepy enough.
