DJ's producing their own music or not?

In another thread I've started some time ago ('Ti�sto... Faker?') there was something about Ti�sto not producing his own music. I'd like to discuss more about this subject.

It's already been discussed to death. Try using the search function.

they all get help... i am sure they all send their stuff/samples around to see others opinions & to get feed back. And play it out to see the reactions.

Tiesto like most big name artists have relied heavily upon other producers to push his work. Oakenfold with Grey and Osbourne did the same, Sasha with Charlie May and others, Digweed with Nick Muir.

Tiesto used some samples of things for his songs, his Traffic song used a sample of techno producer Sean Deason's Pyskofuk (sp?). Tiesto is just doing what made others very, very rich. Look at Norman Cook, he has used tons of samples for years (he's paid for the rights to the samples) and he's done well.

Yes some of old EDM heads may hate tiesto's direction now but his business sense is certainly not stupid. If you can't make a riff that you like, use a part of someone's else (with permission of course). Just don't end up like Mauro Picotto who stole blue fear and lost a suit because of it.

I myself produce music too, and sure, I listen to other peoples oppinions to improve my work. But I meant that the music is COMPOSED by another person.

see I honestly don't give a fuck as long as they have paid for the sample or got the permission to use it.

Using samples is absolutly fine. It's like remixing a track. The new prodigy album is nothing but samples and i fuckin love it. Having others compose/produce music for you and not credit them is wrong. If you credit them then I couldn't give a rats ass. I'll lose some respect for you as an artist if you did none of the work but if its a collaboration and it's credited power to you.

It does piss me off that many artists are simply too fucking lazy to compose their own stuff, so just sample the work of others. It's one of the biggest problems with dance music that every other track is built around a sample. Just look at Robot Rock by Daft Punk- they're essentially selling someone else's music as their own.

DJ Jean is the worst imo, he didnt do anything to The Launch (Klubbheads did) and Every Single Day (G-Spot did) and all his other singles... It's disgusting, i almost hate him for that and i dont give a fuck who he gives credit too, i just cant stand it he shows his face in the video clips looking cool, like "hey girls, i made this i am cool"... There should be some "National Dance law" forbidding this

If he has gotten help it must have been from someone like DJ Aligator because Tiestos music still sucks balls.

As far as samples are concerened, it really doesnt matter, I mean Takaaki Itoh has put out an EP completely constructed of samples from various Surgeon records...

lol.. sampling is what hip hop is all about.. all electronic music is based on samples one way or another. hell, one of Mix Master Mike's album is called 'Anti-Teft Device' go figure..

Doesn't bother me much since a DJ, is technicaly, only supposed to play other people's music. But not many people here see it that way.

it still gets old and boring when talented djs just become no talent hacks when they just use others stuff instead of being creative.

My point is what I wrote. And I would find it odd you would find someone who is SUPPOSED to play other peoples music boring so long as they are creative with how they play it and unexpected with what they play. PvD could play an entire set and not throw down one of his own productions and I could care less.

Yes but it leads to this kind of confusion. Most DJs also drive cars, but you don't call them drivers when you're talking about their DJing do you?
