Podcasts are currently kicking the **** out of me.

Let me start by saying that I dislike iTunes as both a music player and as a file transfer program to the iPod. I believe Winamp and EphPod, respectively, do a superior job for each of those tasks.

However, I do like iTunes for the Podcast libraries in the iTunes Music Store.

There are so many of these things that I've just subscribed to and put on my iPod - so many. I can't stop. I'll never listen to this many hours of audio.

Am I broken?

Posted by ++ EGO ++ on Jul-20-2005 02:35:

I've only subscribed to the blank&jones channel, which has no updates so far....
I dont' know what else is good on there!?

Posted by ++ EGO ++ on Jul-20-2005 02:38:

btw vertigo, i've just sent my holland jersey to get "corsten" printed on it

Posted by VERTiG0 on Jul-20-2005 02:38:

{edit} WHERE DID YOU ACQUIRE SUCH A JERSEY? They're sold out EVERYWHERE.

I'm subscribing to a lot of the technology Podcasts. Comedy too.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that these are all hit and miss on the quality.

Posted by ++ EGO ++ on Jul-20-2005 02:43:

I should check those out then.. I don't know what else they can be useful for.. lots of rap stations..

I had the jersey for awhile and recently got the chance to send it out for print, I' didnt check if the store I went to had it in stock still, I could check again when it comes back

The iPod Mini doesn't have a photo wallet, which is a function I need.

It also has worse battery life, and a smaller hard drive

iPod is a decent product, but not the best

Cowan is putting out some good stuff lately.

It's a bit slow... but then again that's through the SD adapter.

Like other photo wallets, it has USB 2.0 connectivity (480mb/s), but it's nice to be able to transfer photos on the road without a computer, even if it is a bit slow. That's probably a better solution than USBOTG.

The buttons arn't nearly as good as the iPod's wheel, the interface takes some time to get used to, and image load times (full screen) could be better... but other than that, I recommend it. Awesome device.

I love using it as an external harddrive in WinXP (mass-storage device).

I have yet to watch a full length feature movie on it yet. I'll have to test that out soon. Apparantly it's picky with movie formats, but they provide converter software. The demo movie looked fine.

i'm looking for something which would empty my 1G compact flash card on the guy without having to wait a long period of time... nowhere could I find benchmarks for this on the gemini400

I have yet to fill my 1 GB SD card, otherwise I would have run a proper test.

Do you have to pay for PodCasts like normal tunes from iTunes?

I have always wondered this. Are podcasts available for other players, or is it strickly a iPod thing?

all the firmware for Archos players is open source right? I remember when they first started making mp3/media players, that was a big selling point. I never got one, because i just wanted something with top notch sound quality, hence my creative.

I wish i had more functionality now though.

Posted by Jem_hadar on Jul-20-2005 13:25:

iTunes has really grown on me. As much as I absolutely *HATE* that it ALWAYS deletes any info in the ID3 v.2 tage and the will proceed to encode a shitload of numbers in the ID3 v.2 tags instead, I must say (other than that issue) I really enjoy iTunes now.

I can't stand EphPod or Pod*something* (forget the name of the other I used). And winamps aint bad, but I still think iTunes does a better job on the interface side.

I use iPodSync to update my contacts, calendar, notes, weather and movies listings onto my iPody, Gertie.

I *heart* my iPod.

I wanna test out the Podcasting... how expensive is it to buy, Cale?

Which Creative Labs product do you own?

Matt has a Zen Micro... I fucking LOVE the way it lights up in blue. its a very very cool little player as well!

It was my 2nd choice when considering getting an mp3 player! I still would go with my iPod but I do really like the Zen micro too!

I have the Creative Jukebox 3 Link
40gig model

Its huge, but i was going for recording features, and sound quality, in which, this player cannot be beat.

Its just annoying for enthusiasts, because creative is so tight about their firmware, and wont open it up. I know the player isnt that powerful(CPU), because it came out in 2002, but there are just little things here and there, which i wish i could change.

I got this before all these super tiny players came out on the market, and i will NEVER get an iPod, they can lick my balls. Creative has the best menu system on the market. And one of the only companies that allows you to make playlists on the fly...thats a huge thing in my book. If i were to get a new player, it would be a Creative, for that reason alone.

No I don't think you're broken...i'm on my way to the same problem soon hahaha...

And say whatever you want iPod > anything...

Creatives pretty shitty on the sound end of things. Apple has significantly knocked creative around so much, that creative keeps trying to pump out more and more ipod knock offs. And if you want any add-ons iPod has the BIGGEST more DIVERSE amount of 3rd party attachments that extend what an iPod can do.

As for making playlists on the fly, isn't it that a little tedious on a hand held?

shitty on the sound end? haha, you have got to be kidding me!

In terms of being a knock off, you are completely right there. Apple made an awsome product in terms of user interface, and so the rest followed. Everybody is trying to emulate the iPod, and for good reason. I just prefer the creative menu system, which has been around a while now. I didnt want addons, i just wanted more functionality in the menu system, more features built in, albeit Creative has done a good job updating the firmware over time.

The only other addon i wanted was an fm trasmitter, which i got. I dont care if it doesnt neatly fit into the interface, it wasnt ment to.

Making playlists on the fly is awsome. Not tedious at all. You can que up artists, albums, individual songs, change the order of play, remove, and save the playlists. Its great cause i can be away from a computer from days at a time traveling, and that way i dont get sick of the same playlists.
