Traktor and laptops for clubs??

What do you guys think of a dj playing with traktor and a laptop in a club??

auto-beatmatch, instant loops... wheres the magic of vynils?

debate plz

Posted by fastmp3 on Jul-28-2005 19:10:

depends on how you play with it...

if you have controlers and keyboards to make a real live... its all right

but NO BEATMATCHING... just putting tracks one after the other without no work.. no respect

Posted by malek on Jul-28-2005 19:15:

nothing wrong with that imo.

IMO programming is more important than the ability of a dj to beatmatch.

so what man, calmo toi.

the computer won't tell him what track to put next... thats the biggest part of djing. Not synching two tracks.

Posted by FunKenLouis on Jul-28-2005 19:29:

heres something even better

THERES NO PITCH... lol

www.numark.com

c scandaleux

Posted by fastmp3 on Jul-28-2005 19:29:

i prefer a good selection over mixing

mixing is not only putting tracks after the other without goin offbeat

mixing is about buiding the hype... not putting too many breakdowns and everything.... dont you think?

Posted by fastmp3 on Jul-28-2005 19:34:

Posted by malek on Jul-28-2005 19:37:

Louis je crois que ce tu dcris c'est la programmation aussi, parceque le mixing c'est juste le fait de s'assurer qu'il l'enchainement entre deux chansons se font sans trop de fuck. Par contre le choix du moment ou tu va faire le mix est relve de la programmation.

Je sais pas si j'explique bien ca

construction de tes mix tu veux dire?

I respect DJ's who use vynils/cd's sans the computer a lot more than the ones who do. It's clear to see that the DJ who uses a computer to mix is not as talented as one who doesn't.

Oh and fast, I'd prefer a DJ who could mix two crappy tracks together well more than a DJ with a solid tracklisting. Mixing to me is an integral part of entertaining the crowd.

Posted by fastmp3 on Jul-28-2005 19:53:

mixing perfectly is awesome but fuck that shit when the tracks suck

i wanna listen to good shit, not only a good "enchainement"

swiiiiiiiitch

bah dude this has been discussed many times in the CORe...too bad none of you guys visit it.

anyway i say as long as track SELECTION fits in, then whatever the dj can use MixMeister for all i care.

--oh, and rule of thumb....start off slow/mellow...and end with BANGING beats.

cant go wrong with that

Posted by Vermz on Jul-28-2005 21:12:

tout le monde est capable de monter un bon tracklist, mais si tu mix comme une couille c'est pourri

fastmp3 tes pas la dedans, jpensais que tu aimais ton EDM de qualit et bien dos

moi jpas capable de mixer et je pourrais te faire un tracklist a te faire perde la tete, pis je me considerais tellement pas un DJ me semble haha

Posted by Wisnia on Jul-28-2005 21:26:

As long as the dj could make his mixes correctly, and have a solid selection of tracks that complement each other, it doesnt really matter what he uses. Do you think the crowd knows what the hell the dj is doing anyways? No, unless u have tried mixing yourself.

Personally, i prefer vynil/cds over tractor/ableton/serato live/final scratch just because of the stability factor. I know that these programs have been mastered to be stable, however, a club isnt the best place to be playing around on a computer due to smoke etc etc. Plus, it really kills the vibe when your computer crashes and u hear EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEE for 5 minutes and have to wait for it to reboot.
However, i do give props to djs that use ableton live and are creative with it, but if i see a dj at aria mixing with tractor or a similar program it wouldnt make me too happy. Djing started with vynils, and its proven to be good in every way. There is nothing better then the lush sound of vynil and the little crackling sounds of the needle on dust .

I think it would be a huge let down if I'm in a club, having the time of my life, and then looking up at the Dj to see him leaning over a laptop. Almost anyone could do that.

To be a good Dj, you have to have a solid tracklist, and good mixing. If a Dj doesnt have to do any work and the computer beatmatches all the tracks for him, then where is the talent???

Vinyl + Cds > Traktor and a Laptop. Any day.
