Love What do U Like about Reason3?

i love combinators!

Posted by mzvirbulis on Aug-01-2005 00:29:

this is definatly a great VST but can be much improved!
love only just started using it 2 months ago.

i definalty love the combinator, you can make wicked sounds with more ease and save it as a patch.

DR.REX is very cool do alot with that.

post soon

Sorry to tell you this bud, but reason isn't a vst..

MClass Compressor rocks as does the new combinator.. 1 track for all the synths inside makes changing the score layout for layed sounds a breeze!

could really do with a standalone hipass filter tho.. :S

care to explain. what is it then?

wow good question actually...i always knew reason3 never supported vst instruments...but i wouldnt know how to explain it clearly

so!!!....off to google i go..and bam wham...VST:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Studio_Technology

basically vst instruments are something you load into a program...so its external to the actual application...in reason you already have all the instruments in the application and you cant load vsts

Posted by qiushiming on Aug-01-2005 06:56:

btw i guess to be technically correct, instead of application i should say VST host...the program that hosts the vst instrument (cubase, fruity..etc)

very true. As amazing as the program is, I often get annoyed by the lack of a highpass on the filter module.

Posted by NeoShaman on Aug-01-2005 08:52:

i found plenty of ways to have a high pass effect, for example stereo imager has similar functions, and if u need some specific filtering it is always possible to connect it manually in some unorthodox way

i know what you mean by it's not a VST but is more of a fully stand alone music production instument as it states on the front cover.

although it has rewire which sort of makes a small relation to the VST family.
try to not think reason as a vsti but as a stand alone music production instrument.

I tell you what, REASON 3.0 would be an absolute killer rewired with ABELTON 4 OR 5.
IMAGINE!!!!!!!!

it already is a killer when rewired with FL5 and/or Cubase SX3

Liam Howlett did just that with 2.5 (kinda)

well you don't need to imagine, just do it

I sooo want to turn this into a FL vs RSN battle, but i'll resist (this time...).

Anyways. I liked the fact that they had a built in mastering tool. I sometimes use Reason as VST, and it's good to have a pumped up bass ready to be compressed with the kick. But, elsewise it's way to few updates to be called reason 3! It's maybe 2.75 :P but not any higher.

Posted by hardikaveri on Sep-06-2005 06:13:

i just got my new reason through fedexand i got only short time to get use of it before i must go to work.. but

i saw that m class copressor has sidechain button??

so could someone tell me how to draw wires to get ducking bass?..

any cominator patch or rps, rsn??

Posted by Storyteller on Sep-06-2005 07:49:

just put the sound you want to duck into the compressor input and the sound you want to be the trigger into the sidechain input.

still bothered reason doesn't even have a spectrum analyser, imo a very basic thing

Posted by hardikaveri on Sep-06-2005 07:58:

you can make your own analyser from vokoder...but you cant see herzes

Posted by Reactance on Sep-06-2005 12:17:

I just love what they did when they speeded up the sample load time, samples now loads up in a flash compared to 2.5.

Less CPU usage makes me and my CPU happy more options to be creative !

i notised that also!!

i had like 100 devicec on rack when i tested some combinator patches and cpu usage was like 20%...improoove

that's an equaliser, not an analyser.

Posted by Reactance on Sep-06-2005 12:41:

WOW 100 devicec rack,I still like the redrum i think it made reason what it is 2 day !
Also if u ask me its rebirth`s drum sequencer`s source code reused but with a diffrent graphical interface and some extra bits here and there !

if you wire it correctly you can make it analyser,,,

i downloaded some wire template from reasonstation called.. spectrum analyser!!

it uses vocoders moving pilars as analysers panel..

Reason 3 is pretty neat, but I've been trying to figure out: Does it have an Arpeggiator or any tool that works in a similar fashion?

Posted by Corteoz on Sep-09-2005 22:27:

Do you want to know what I like about Reason? *strange feeling*

ARGH! MUST RESIST STARTING A FL VS REASON BATTLE... ARGH! CAN'T HOLD IT IN MUCH LONGER!!!!
*slap*

Ok, i'm normal again. I like the fact that it can be rewired into FL!
