Denon DN-X1500 mixer
Hey,
Planning to upgrade my cheap Numark Mixer. Its a 3 channel from about 6 years ago. I was thinking of the Denon 1500 because i'm now running two 1200s and two CDJ-200's.. I know that the DJM are still industry standard, and that the A&H are simply unbeatable, but they don't offer too much in the way of value. I was planning on getting the Vestax 275 that everyone raves about, but noticed the 1500 on ebay for $599.. not too much more than the vestax..
Anyway.. my question is how do you guys feel about this mixer? It was apparently designed to be a battle mixer, but the filters and sampler just screams out for some cool effects while mixing trance! Any opinons?
Another mixer you might think about:
Numark 5000fx
Very similar to the dnx-1500. Loaded with effects and a sampler, 5 channel and a decent price.
I just bought one and i have 30 days to play with it. If within those 30 days I'm not convinced it will be a great mixer I'm going to go for the 1500.
I've got to say the smart loop on this mixer is wicked and the reverse is as well, although I'm not very good at using it yet.
The only thing that concerns me with this mixer could be the reliability but, the 1500 is a brand new platform as well, so who know's how it's reliability will be.
just food for thought.
hmm
Never really considered teh 5000fx. Not too much on the net about it.. please post any videos/pics/reviews when you get it..
I wonder how it scratches a live signal? hmm interesting
i dont think that mixer is a battle mixer, although it could be used as one. I personally think that mixer is well laid out, and the quality is top notch. If you are getting it for a good price, go for it. I have a djm-600 , and would take either one of these mixers.
Jay
I have an x1500 and love it. it comes highly recomended. but you need to think about what you will be using it for, there are other similiar mixers in the same price range that are also very good, just suited for different types of mixing.
problems with x1500?
Hey,
well i'm gonna use it for trance (duh!) but also a lot of house and progressive... very little hiphop, although i do like to scratch a little when i'm bored.
That said, .. there used to be problems with the 1500 having a 'digital delay' with the faders.. but i heard this has been fixed? Is that true?
I'm guessing that the x1500 is a good choice, given my preference to trance and house, vs. hiphop/jungle, which requires more fast fader work (where an analog fader would be more responsive)??
Hey, I got a 1500 aswell, its a killer ALL ROUND MIXER, it wasn't made for one specific type of DJing, it was made to cover it all, it sounds awesome and feels great, when I got mine, I got a demo one first as they had to order me a new one, so I decided to test the shit out of the mixer, lets just say I put it threw situations a DJ wouldn't face and the mixer came out laughing, I've had no problems at all in the time I've owned it (about a year now), and would highly recommend it to anyone, as for the delay, the fix that came out slightly fixed the fader delay but its still very noticable, its fine for mixing trance, but for house and break DJs that would use the faders for fast cuts, well there just not good enough, the xfader on the other hand is now really good, I don't notice ANY delay at all now, good think about it is, since it has the matrix system, you can assign the channels to the sides of the mixer and do your cutting with that instead of the faders.
If you have any other questions let me know.

^^^ yea true, the mixer does have its down points, but what mixer doesn't, the Nuo said before is a very good mixer also, you might want to look into it.
hmmm
Hmmm that is unfortunate about the upfader delay. At least the crossfader is quick, so hopefully it wont be a problem if i just keep reassigning the xfader to diff channels? I'm used to mixing with the fader turned off and just using the upfaders and EQ to bring in tracks.
In any case, i already ordered it online so if the faders are annoyingly slow then i can always return it in 30 days..
thanks for the help
Re: hmmm
I have the 1500 as well...
While the upfaders do have a bit of delay, for mixing trance and house you probably won't be bothered by it at all. It could be annoying for cutting and scratching, but you can work around it by using the crossfader.
Overall a very nice mixer... enjoying mine until I can get a Xone 92

I have an X1500 and can honestly say it works just fine for mixing house/progressive and even techno. I've gotten quite used to the small delay, and don't even think about it any more. If I were buying a mixer now though, I'd probably be looking in the direction of A&H or Nuo.
DNX 1500 is a beauty.
I'm in the market for a 4 channel mixer too, and the DNX1500 is what I've been eyeing.
I choose to stay away from the Ecler mixers cuz they don't have enough metering. (I'm an audiophile that loves knowing how loud things are by visual cue)
Are the upfaders on the dnx1500 delayed becasue they're digital??
I would grab the A&H Xone92 on the condition that I have loads of cash to drop.
compare to a Xone 62??
Ok
You everyone here is saying that the 1500 is great, but if they had more $$$ they'd get the A&H 62 or 92.. but what i dont understand is that if they upgraded from the X1500 to a Xone, they're gonna lose all the digital effects and the sampler??? Is the assumption then that they are gonna upgrade for an extra $800 and then drop another few hundred on an outboard effects module?
Is the A&H really that good??

Yeah, the Xones are simple and are quality. However, you PAY for that quality. The Denon offers a lot of bang for the buck. Something like the Nuo 5 is still several hundred dollars (USD) more than the DN-X1500 if you search around. It is likely the better mixer, however.
There are still rumours floating around that the next SW update for the DN-X1500 will reduce channel fader delay. Although it annoys some, I honestly don't notice it when I'm mixing.
But yeah, I'm still waiting to get the Xone. I've never used the sampler on my DN-X1500 (other than to play with it), and the effects get a little tired minus the filters...

The lag is so minimal....
bang for your buck... fun fun mixer. Soon there will be another update for it, and maybe even some new effects.
Keep in mind the DN-X500 and X900 are coming out. They are 4 channel 4U 19" rackmountable mixers that have pretty much everything the X1500 has minus the effects. I'm probably going to buy the X500 as I'm in college and need to rackmount my stuff to make it more portable.

Its complicated dude, I've been trying to make it work for awhile now. The X1500 with rackmount kit takes up 8U + another 3U for my DN-D6000 means I need a rack thats 11U on top and 2U (for the drive) on the bottom. Most racks go up to 10Ux4U, the only 11U one being a $250 40lb case from Odyssey.
Soooo long story short I'm probably going to get the X500 (it doesn't have the upfader lag, I just asked on the Denon forums) and get one of the cheap SKB cases that are 8Ux2U. The money I make downgrading from the X1500 I'll put towards an effects unit.
Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to the Allen & Heath VF-1 filter module? I LOVE the A&H filters but I'm not about to spend $600 on it (more than my mixer!)
you can look for an ELECTRIX FILTER QUEEN...if you can find one. Chec ebay!
As for 4-channel FX mixers, I'd go for an ECLER NUO5 or A&H XONE:62 or 92. I've played with the DNX-1500...it does offer a lot of bang for the buck, but I'm just not a fan of how it feels, and its a bit complicated (changing some settings requires going thru numerous software menus, when on some mixers, its just a simple switch or button).
The filter queen looks cool but I really need something thats 1U and is 19" rackmountable...thanks for your help tho!
edit: I found out about the Veroma Filter mk2 unit and the Stanton DJF-1 which is now discontinued...the Veroma ain't much cheaper tho, I think I may just splurge for the A&H filter. Apparently some company named RED makes filter units too but I couldn't find anything on them
