Trance + Drugs = Misconception?
Im from Houston, Tx and when people ask me what kind of music im into, obviously Trance is mentioned. But along with that comes comments like "do you rave" "you do x?" "no one listens to techno" ect.
But although most of the EDM scene and people are huge party types who often take tabs,x,coke ect ect. I am not really one of them.
I do occasionally smoke weed and put on a good set just because something about being high and listening to a good set is the closest thing to perfection, but thats not the point.
My question is.. Do you go to the shows for the drugs or for the music?
Or do you feel that the drugs increase the state of mind? Just wondering, I try and ask some of my friends this question and they just say its for the music but I highly doubt being passed out at a show is going for the music..
Alot of people that say its all about the music are bullshitting and are really there to get high. There are also plenty around who genuinely come for the music, I tend to think the people who come for the music are the ones who aren't wildly plastered and can use responsibly.
I go for the show. You def. don't need drugs to have fun at those crazy shows. The music is so loud and everyone is dancing and theres crazy lights. Why do I need drugs to fuck me up even more?
I kind of wish people would throw away the E and pay more respect to the music instead of tripping for themselves.
I'd do drugs for the sake of experimenting, and I love EDM. Never done them together though. It's just a stereotype. If all people who listen to edm go to raves and do drugs, then all people who listen to country are white trash and people who listen to rap are violent criminals.
I think the people who say they "go for the music", go for the music they hear when they're under the influence. Not all of course.
it's a large misconception spread thanks to the proliferation of young kids taking drugs at raves along with the media continuing to report on them.
it annoys me everytime when someone asks me what music i like, and when i respond with "trance" they immediately follow-up with a question along the lines of "oh do you drop?"
despite what hadi ****** says
one does not need drugs to enjoy trance or any other kind of EDM.
I go to enjoy the music, and substances enhance the experience.
I think there are just as many people getting fucked up at hip hop shows and rock concerts.
Not American pop music shows though.
when i first started listening to trance i didn't do many drugs then for about two years once i started to see the association with drugs and trance i began rolling often and i found it to make the music 10 times better but i no longer roll and trance is still the main part of my daily dose of music, i think that doing ecstasy a few times may have made me appreciate the music more but i dont need drugs to give me the feeling that trance gives me anymore

If by drugs you mean Alcohol, then yes..
NO, if I wanted to get hammered I'd do it at home. It's for the music, and maybe the ladies.. and maybe a few drinks..
Clubs and mind altering substances go hand in hand. People go to clubs to let loose and have fun. It's just a given and has nothing to do with trance. I know for sure that people that go to hip-hop clubs are on drugs as well.
It kind of ruined it for me.. I still love the music, just dont dig the clubs and stuff just becasue of all the use. I mean its sad when you ask your friend about the set list and they dont even remember.
I guess I dont need drugs to feel what others cant. I dont know something about loud music, lights everywhere, people all jumping up and down, crazy breakdowns and stuff just make me feel really "high".

IT'S NOT A MISCONCEPTION, IN FACT, I THINK TOGETHER THEY'RE THE SINGLE BEST CONCEPTION EVER MADE
i do not support this message.
Alot of times I like E for the sole raeson that it keeps me up all night and gives me enough energy to go nuts to the crazy sets being dropped. Theres nothign I hate more than the place going crazy and me not having enough energy to go nuts as well.
I didnt mean it like that. I was just saying when people claim they go for the music, yet are too messed up to even remember what happened.
I dont know , I think weed makes you relativly calm enough to know whats going on and enjoy it. Just wondering what everyone else thinks. And yes it sucks about how automatically the EDM peeps have to be on X.
drugs in club = lose
drugs @ any house = win
drugs @ afterhours = win

i think poeple do drugs in clubs for a bigger experience. @ a house u can not have super loud music, your fav. dj, lights, etc.. so i do think drugs and edm go hand in hand.. i would be willing to bet maybe 20 or 30% of club goers do drugs.
^^^yeah i'll agree with that, when your at home you can pick the music u wanna play, do whatever the hell u want while being fucked up...in the club, your kind of down to a few options
edit- but dont get me wrong, being fucked up in the club with the bangin music is bomb.com

Well, I am one of those who don't use drugs when I am out clubbin.
In fact I never do drugs, because of the risk it involves. I am not trying to get other to quit, but there are those who can go nuts all night long without any chemical substance! And I am one of them!

i think of it this way...
i don't need drugs to enjoy the music. however, i'm getting to the stage where i *do* need drugs to enjoy being stuck in a dark, hot, smokey crowded place all night with nowhere comfy to sit & not being able to talk to my friends cos the music is too loud. add to that being tired, having aching feet from dancing and getting sweaty randoms chatting bollocks to you at 4:30 in the morning
i absolutely go for the music.. i'm always the one who screams "omgz0r ch00n!!11" like an armin whore when a track gets mixed in i know, and can always remember large portions of tracklists afterwards. and when listening to music in the warm, familiar comfort of my own home i can get just as much of a buzz (well, nearly) without any substances at all. it's just that it's harder to do this in a club environment with all the setbacks listed above
despite saying that, there have been times i've managed to dance all the way through a particular set in a club & thoroughly enjoy it without pills, but the music/dj have to be SPOT ON and build their set completely flawlessly.. to the extent where i can forget about everything else around me & get lost in the music, and it's not often that happens! plus i end up exhausted afterwards & have to sit down for ages
If I managed to dance for 4 hours on a techno party, without drugs or alcohol, it is obvious that drugs are completely unnecessary.
