What's on your christmas list?
So I ran into this problem AGAIN this year... Parents ask me what I want for Christmas, and all I can come up with is "I dunno... something new?"
I don't want them to spend too much money by any means, but they are bent on getting me something. They don't want to get me a refurbished something of what i've got (ie, a new bedset or something), they want to get me something new.
Here's kinda what I came up with:
one of those new MP3 phones
additions to my personal library (I don't know what books tho)
or something to go along with my computer, like a nice set of speakers or a new printer (cuz I actually maybe really need that)
What are some ideas out there? What did you ask for for Christmas??
Trip to newzeland for 2 weeks
creative Zen series mp3 player
Altec Lansing 7..1 sororund sound speakers for your comp
HP all in one 7200 series printer
with the mp3 player/phone thinger, i think it'd be best. i mean... i need a new phone (was gonna get one for myself, but i'm broke) and I love having my music with me, so i figured the combo would be good.
And thanks, Tyler, for the printer suggestion. i'll look it up.
This is my top ten list I just emailed to my mom.
My parents usually end up getting each kid one 'bigger' gift and then a bunch of smaller ones. The ones with ** infront are some of my 'bigger' gift ideas.
(bigger, really means more pricey in this case)
**1) A new DIMM card for my mc909. (memory for my sampler) (about $150ish I think, although I have friends offering to sell me used ones for around 40$ CDN)
specs
pin= 168 pin,
speed= 100mhz (pc100cl=2) or ideally a 133hmz (pc133cl=3)
Volatage= 3.3v
Capacity= 256MB
Height= 38mm or less
2) A new back up card for my mc909
SM card 3.3 volt 128MB
3) book gift certificates or amazon.com certificates.
4)music gift cards
5)garden state plaza (for TOTA's, this is the largest mall in the greater NYC area, with the possible exception of Pacific Palisades) gift card (i loved the one you got me last year)
6)Keg steak sauce
7)books to learn japanese Kanji and Kana lettering systems, a good book is 'A guide to reading and Writing Japanese' third edition isbn#0-8048-3365-6 or '250 essential Kanji for everyday use' volumes 1 and 2. all three are by Tuttle publishing. I'm ok on Hiragana, so I don't need anything for that.
**8) a new snowboard (just the board... all of my other stuff is still holding together just fine) I'm mainly into riding half pipe these days with only a little bit of backcountry steep powder.
**9)A Backpack, The North Face Catalyst 75 Pack with Pivotal Suspension is the one I'm going to be saving up for. I've seen them retailing online for around $300 (MSRP is around $375 I think). The reason I like this pack is because the swing pivot system really helps take the stress off of my hip injury when the pack is fully loaded. (I tried them out at adventure guide filled with phone books.)
10) A balance ball (exactly like the ones you see in yoga and pilates all the time now) with a mini ball pump to inflate it. (these things are really helping with my martial arts and i love messing around on them improving my balance standing on them). When I move over the holidays I have to give the one I have back.
**means these can be pricey (ie over $100)
New Hard Drive!!! I've got like 2 GB of space left LOL
More RAM!
Tint for my car(s)
Would LOVE a Canon Rebel XT, but I know I'll never get it
Infected Mushroom to come to my house and play. Don't think I'll get that one either...
my two front teeth
lmao
Nothing.
There are plenty of things I want in life, but I am not willing to ask my family for any of them.
I have a lot, and I am grateful for what I have this year. Anything more would just be extra.
I just need a little bit of a pc upgrade (est 400-500) and that's all really.
Clothes, cold hard cash. That is all.

Yeah, I just feel weird asking for things. If someone buys me something, cool, but I'm not telling anyone what I want.
If they really press, I'll tell them stores that I like, and if they feel the need and buy a gift card or something, so be it.
I'd rather just see my nephew and the rest of my family and give thanks that they're all healthy and safe for another Christmas.
I love my family but I still want a new iPod.
yeah of my top ten list only about 2 of those will in any likelyhood be purchased. I've dropped every extra cent of mine on V.S. stuff for my gf (its not as self serving as you think since she's living in Los Angeles now!) and a matching necklece and ring I know she had her eye on.
Gifts for the rest of my family have been bought gradually over the course of the year so they are all covered.
(most of my family does it this way, so the lists are usually only used to fill in)
One year my dad bought me a unicycle as a joke. It meant a lot regardless of how unpracticle it was so I spent the next 6 months learning how to get awesome at it.... it's now on my more useless and lesser known talents.
I always feel guilty getting stuff. But the way I see it is that I would feel even more guilty if they spent a bunch of money on something which I would never use. So that's why I oblige and send my mom an idea list now. Also I've lived away from home across the boarder since grade 9, so sometimes my parents don't really have the best clue to my living situation/wants/needs. It's a two way street and they help me out from time to time with them as well when I can't be close enough to know what they would really like.

CDJ 800.... buwhahahhaa
My family and I were never really into gift giving. It's a time ofyear to be together, enjoy each other's company over a couple meals and whatnot.
What I want though, and probably get, a DVD player, and a PC upgrade.

The act of gift giving around xmas between friends and family is so symbolic to me and means so much.
Its not so much the gift, but the effort, the thought, the fact that you're giving a gift and it'll make the other person smile and you're gonna smile bc someone is thinking of you and you're opening this present from me.
i dunno, its like another physical way to represent and tell your family, friends, that you love them.. and wanna share this holiday experience w/ them. its just one of the ways in which of course i share the holiday experience w/ my family and friends, but an important and key one nonetheless IMO.
