So i was..........

chilling in my local bar and the dj was spinning sum commerical house tunes....with my mates being boring i decided to go over to have a chat with the dj ( The place was near empty and it was 7pm ). i naturally asked him if he could play any trance ( tune i requested was chicane - saltwater ) we had a chat about the equipment he used and stuff like that ...but the point is that when i told him that a mad trance head he said to me " i can bet mate you love funky house by the time your 25"

now i didnt belive i could ever listen to that really but i was wondering if that is true or hes just playing with my head..

over to you....

He's absolutely right. I listened to trance up until I was 24. Then I had a sudden change of interest, for what reasons I will never know and I got hooked on funky house, dirty house about 6 months ago.

I turned 25 a month ago and I love that funky house more than ever

Posted by Tanatz on Jan-25-2006 19:36:

That's pretty freaky because I turned 25 about 6 months ago and within that same time-frame I've become a house-lover. I find myself looking for new house music much moreso than trance and also going to live house sets routinely.

Posted by Kapedano on Jan-25-2006 19:39:

Well im not 25, but I went through a change where I really enjoyed house music, especially funky and electro house. I came back to trance, I really love trance, trance makes me feel like no other music..I mean house is cool and everything, but it really doesnt take me into a different level like trance does. I still enjoy house but trance will always be my love. But I dont belive all people when they turn 25 they suddently listen to trance, i mean we arent robots that are set to listen to house just when we turn 25 . But everyone goes through that change i guess.

By the time I am 25 and if I still will be posting on this website, provided the thread dosent get deleted/closed and I am not banned from this website; than I will let you know whether my music taste changed or not.

He's right.

People just naturally slow down the older they get. Metabolisms stunt, you stop growing and start decaying, you develop aches and pains, testosterone production dips, you gain weight and your musical tastes mellow out. You'll grow to appreciate soulful deep house and chill. By your 30s....MOR music baby. It happens to everyone.

Posted by djkoolaide on Jan-25-2006 20:13:

I'm not 25, rather 17. But I've liked Trance for about 5 years now, and lately I've REALLY been getting into funky house. I haven't mixed trance in probably over 6 months. But I've already made a few funky house mixes

Posted by ivanbee on Jan-25-2006 20:55:

i turned 24 a couple months ago and haven't listened to trance at all.

electro house ftw

Posted by fitom tiel on Jan-25-2006 21:38:

that's so weird, i was introduced to house the night i turned 25. i've loved it ever since

< /conformity>

[NOTE: not true, but i did start off loving trance then house]

some people mature faster than others I guess

I'm 21 and I stopped with trance at 20.59

heheh pwned.

i started to listen to more house when i turned 21. im 22.5 years now and im somewhere in between. I think its a mixture of age and the amount of new quality tunes. There are only one or two trancers that i love every month these days IMO. That was my experience

I'm 21 as well and I'd guesstimate I stopped losing most interest in trance around the same age... i guesstimate 20.68, it was about 8 months before my 21st bday

Good, I should have years and years to enjoy ambient, provided my hearing remains intact.

Given the tripe being churned out in alot of trance productions, I'm tipping you'll gain a love of another genre! (But you won't ever 'outgrow' your love of classic trance, nah uh, that stuff was just too good)

Posted by Rebel Brown on Jan-26-2006 15:25:

I'm only 18 but I'm starting to go off trance because I can't be bothered to search for the good stuff.

I'm all about the dirty basslines nowadays.

Posted by GrimReaper on Jan-26-2006 15:36:

I'm freakin 27 and i listen to many kinds of edm, trance included but nowadays it's more or less pre '98 trance only because most of the trance from 200* doesn't interest me to a slightest bit. I've been listening to house occasionally for over 12 years but breaks, trance, ambient and everything acid related have always been closer to my heart.

But i'm a strange freak so i won't count..

Posted by Thierry on Jan-26-2006 15:44:

I think you're thinking of it wrong, your music horizon just opens up more as you get older. Not like you'll substitute house for trance. I found that as I am getting older, when you go to bars with your friends to chill and have a few drinks rather than dance, you want to hear house rather than trance. I'm only 22 btw.

Cheers,
Terry

WOW we're all so impressed at your advanced state of maturity that manifests itself in your love of house music acquired less than a year ago. Go on, have a lollipop. You deserve it.

Edit: i have a new theory. maybe people just get tired of a certain genre that they've been listening to all their life and look for something new. Then later, they might even come back to what they used to love if they're not too pigheaded to admit they still like it.

Posted by klappa on Jan-26-2006 18:41:

Im 23 and have just started disslike trance well atleast trance post the year 2000.

I haven't started to like house but i have widen my ears to other electronic styles like d&b, ambient, early rave and such.

I think house as trance today are to bloated and shit. I just look backwards in time, you find the inspiration there

amen bro. besides the rare, rare good track that gets released every now and then... i stick to classics.

Posted by Absolut_Vodka on Jan-26-2006 18:54:

I liked trance for maybe 6 months, then saw Jonathan Lisle one night and since then have gone through the whole progressive bit, and now enjoy minimal progressive (psy) trance... there's just nothing better than tripped out stuff...mmmm
