DUMONDE and THEIR SOUNDS...

Hi people !

Last year, they were used very often the same sounds, and some persons will be bored ! I must agree cause except NEVER LOOK BACK and WARRIORS, all 2001's remixes/productions sounds the same (MEMORY, TRAUMA, THE SUN, THE MUSIC IS MOVING...)

I love DuMonde and all their tunes ! but I hope that this year they will create new sounds in their productions ! cause I think I'll be a little boring to listen the same hi hats and the same synth sounds.

but DUMONDE ARE THE BESTS FOR ME

regards

DUMONDEFAN

u are right, those tracks sound almost same...But I think, it's their style...You can't expect them to change their style and create completely new and different songs...
and I still like those sounds

Dumonde is the shit. They know how to produce their style of trance very well, and likely so, this is what you call exceptional talent.

hmm.. i have to disagree here.. james holden for example has his own style, but none of his tracks sound exactly the same.. i think that dumondes "style" is WAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too close in all thier works and gets super boring.. thats my 2 cents anyways..

I used to love dumonde a while back, but now when i listen to each song/remix produced by them i hear the same song with slightly different breakdowns.in my opinion they are no better than darude or barthezz.

Posted by TeKnoHe@d2025 on Jan-19-2002 03:58:

I don't mind if their songs sound simular. To tell you the truth...I thought that "Never Look Back" was Binary Finary- 2001 when I first heard it. A Dumonde production/remix always get me moving, their songs are so energetic. Give them credit, they've been able to take an Alice Deejay and Fragma song and make it good.

Posted by djbounce on Jan-19-2002 21:36:

guys...
if you think of Dumonde's style as "boring" just because it has the same sounds all the time, consider this: how come PVD uses the same kick all the time?!? Because it's his trademark!! Same with DeLeon's synths and JamX's beats and hihats...

peace 2 all trancers

I think alot of paul van dyk's productions are boring because they all sound the same...all the "PVD Rework's" are pointless because 90% of them ruin the original song.

Part of being a good producer is having variety.
Theres a difference between having your own style and just doing the same thing over and over again.

I mean, how long do you think it takes Dumonde to complete a remix?

Go into the studio, plug the notes into all the sounds that are premade, and edit a couple things. What does that take? A few days?

I can't appreciate producers who have no variety in their music.

Thumbs up

Well i personally LOVE dumonde sounds...when there is a build going on...especially their rmx of memory..and never look back...i hope they dont change..the only thing a producer could do to make songs better is adding breaks..like Hybrid does...PLEASE DUMONDE NEVER CHANGE...look what happended to Robert Miles...he changed completely...fucking idiot..he was the best of dream trance..

Posted by capricorn15 on Jan-20-2002 09:30:

one of your guys who likes dumonde was complaining about other artists, how their tracks sound the same, but you are just being biased towards those other artists, to defend against dumonde, you just say it is a style, well fuck that then, everyone else has a style, so someone better not be complaining how kings of clubs - revelation (airwave remix) sounds like airwave - save me, because ALOT of dumonde remixes sound the same, haha, but nevertheless, i love both of them, i am just saying, not to be biased, cuz i have seen youput that is it a style more than once, and i just think it is out of defense for your favorites.

I only say can you dig it!!!!!!!!!....It's also dumonde and it's a great song and a little bit different then the other ones...but it rocks!!!!!! dumonde live at goliath, just listen to it, you can't sit still with that set!!!!!!!!!!!

Paul Van Dyk tunes and Dumonde tunes sound similar, because they use their own drum kits and such to make them. They have his their own patented sounds... their own ideas of what a tune should sound like. And it seems to appeal to a lot of people, especially in these forums. If producers changed their style from tune to tune as much as you appear to be suggesting they should, then they would ultimately lose their own 'sound' and I think that would be a great loss. Though I do agree that some producers appear to churn out some tunes every now and again just to make some cash, which sucks (cough, cough, Ferry Corsten!).

I think it's unfair to call Paul Van Dyk's work boring just because you don't particularly like it. If Paul Van Dyk's work is so boring, then why does the man have such a humongous following? Why do so many people love his tunes? Are you trying to say us PvD lovers are all boring ppl?! You tell that to Starfox!

BTW, when you say PvD has no variety, do you take into account the breakbeat style tunes he makes?... No, I didn't think so! I think you need to listen to more of his work before you form such an opinion mister! And also PvD reworks do not ruin a song... in many cases they improve it!

Anyway, I think I've said enough for now...

barryfigiel.

Their new track "Can you dig it" is awesome!
though it uses a few samples from previous tunes (e.g- the beat is very similer to the one in "never look back") but heck... It's SO freaking good!

no way.. just look at artists like DJ TIESTO, LANGE, WAY OUT WEST, THRILLSEEKERS, COAST 2 COAST, JAMES HOLDEN, MARCO V.. i could go on forever here.. there are TONS of great producers who try new styles all the time and are succesfull.. heck, look at rank 1.. i know they use the same lead synth alot, but all the other synths and percussion are different and never sound recycled.. i guess this is what separates the good producers (*COUGH* DUMONDE *COUGH*) from the great ones (*COUGH* SEE ABOVE *COUGH*)!

Personally I think the reason Paul Van Dyk "reworks" every song is because it makes it sound alot smoother when every track you mix has the same kick and hi hat patterns. I didn't like the Politics of Dancing CD at all because almost every other song was "Re-Worked" and alot of them were ruined in my opinion.

Look what he did to Ralphie B - Massive. Destroyed it in my opinion. The track lost all energy. Take into account Rapture...possibly one of the worst mixes of that tune.

Now to respond to you, Paul Van Dyk has a large following because alot of people like his work. I on the other hand, do not like it all. I don't appreciate him as much as a DJ as I do as a producer. The style of trance he plays just doesn't appeal to me, and some of his productions are good. I bought For an Angel, I bought the Columbia EP, I know his work, I just don't like it all.

I had to pay for 4 vinyls in the columbia EP just so I could get the Starecase remix of Vega which was the only track I liked. Starecase is great . They have such variety, and such a big following (lol, cheap shot). The other 3 tracks on the Columbia EP sound like UK Hard House to me. But even listening to those I can easily tell it's Paul Van Dyk. There are a TON of successful producers who have their own style but have such a variety in their work. Theres a difference between having a distinct style and using the same kick/hi hat patterns and the SAME bloody synth sounds (IE Paul Van Dyk recycles the sound he used in For An Angel).

I think Paul Van Dyk and Dumonde are just different from the producer/DJ's I listen to on a regular basis.

Paul Van Dyk likes producing "poppy stuff" (as he said in an interview). So maybe being very unique doesn't matter to him.

I'm not saying his stuff is factually bad, I'm just saying I don't like most of it and can't appreciate him as an artist if he can't consistently put out quality tracks with variety.

I mean honestly, how many DJ's play all of his releases? Other then him? Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't know of any DJ's who play all his releases.

If you want variety & quality consistently (even in the trance world where it becomes increasingly hard to find) check out producers like Blackwatch, Satoshi Tomiie, James Holden, even TIESTO has a good variety...going from FLight 643 to Urban Train...!

That is all I can think of right now.

I'll apologise in advance for what will probably be a long post...

I'll give you credit and say you're right where Ralphie B- Massive is concerned... that tune was much better without the rework. However, 'Rapture' is crap and it would take more than a simple rework to make that sound good IMO... and I adore the rework of Sagitaire- Shout (c'mon) (Coast 2 Coast Remix). I think it sounds much better than the original.

It's fair enough that you don't like his work...tho I do reckon you are in a minority. I personally think the tunes Satoshi Tomie produces are quite boring. They don't appeal to me. And they sure as hell don't make me wanna move in the same way that PvD or Dumonde do...

The fact you had to buy 4 different copies of the Columbia EP to get the Starecase mix is your own fault... a little research into record's codes wouldn't have gone amiss...

I have to totally disagree that he uses,

quote:

the SAME bloody synth sounds (IE Paul Van Dyk recycles the sound he used in For An Angel).

for his tunes. For example, how very different are, say, 'Vega' and 'The Love From Above'?

To answer on your point about other DJs playing all of his tunes... Can you tell me of any DJ who plays everything that another producer/ DJ makes? I can think of DJs that play SOME work that other producers/ DJs churn out, but they don't play everything! Look at Above and Beyond. How many DJs play all of their tunes?! None (other than themselves) as far as I am aware! In my experience, I've noticed DJs from all over the world play PvD tunes/ remixes... you only need to be a Gatecrasher regular to find that out.

Sorry mate, but I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. After all, if we all liked the exact same music then the world would be a pretty boring place wouldn't it?

lateRZ,

barryfigiel.

who said that Marco V.'s tracks sounded different? LoL! they all sound the same to me!

well, all i can say is that Ferry dwarfs them all when it comes to producing! Tiesto is also class, the two deserve all the sucess they've gotten!

You might have misunderstood me, and maybe my writing wasn't clear (my fault)...
The Columbia EP contains 2 vinyls, its a double pack. I had to get the whole thing in order to receive the Starecase Remix of Vega, and in turn receive 3 other songs I have no intention of playing. My bad on writing 4 vinyls instead of 2.

Agreeing to disagree is good

It's all a matter of opinion.
